89 this partly cloudy morning.

29° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 34°/14°. No weather in the forecast here until a chance of snow Friday...maybe your weather Wally making its way here.

I asked my Gastroenterologist if he knew anything about the Covid vaccine and anaphylaxis and he said he didn't know, to ask my pcp.

Bigskygal - I know you aren't fond of going to town, but do you have a pharmacist that you trust in your town?  I might be tempted to ask him or her about the vaccine for you.  It was a pharmacist that read the 'fine print' and told me I should not take the shingles vaccine because of the inert ingredient.

124 today morning.

We're using iPhones, iPad & the Apple TV. I have used the MacBook that my daughter has. Once you get accustomed to the GUI it's cool. Right now any new purchases are of the cards. But maybe, sometime in the near future we could switch to one.

Wally, I remember feeling odd about switching to Macs but quickly got over it as I came to see advantages. Integration with your phone will be very, very easy and secure. That said, for a while I've been using my Macs as well as a Windows 8 (gasp) and Windows 10 laptop plus a Fire tablet for reading. All have virtues and limitations.

That said, I'm once again seeing reports of Apple moving into diabetes monitoring with their watch. Here's a typical article:

https://www.tomsguide.com/news/apple-watch-7s-top-feature-revealed-and-its-a-game-changer

I also wanted to mention how I continue to be blown away with Dexcom G6 and Tandem's IQ Control. It amazed me when I changed the CGM sensor that no finger sticks at all were required for calibration. Plus, it's incredible how well it makes adjustments to manage insulin delivery; BG is currently running over 80% within target range. While I do still have to bolus for anything containing significant carbs, I worry far less over making accurate estimates.

Heavens, I haven't had to do a finger stick in almost a month - a far cry from the previous days of 10-12 sticks a day.

It's easy to decry the negative impact of tech on the world, but especially for type 1 diabetics all these innovations are nearly miraculous.

101 this morning.

On my desktop calendar today I read the following:

"On this day in 1950, the Indian Constitution went into effect, marking the birth of the Republic of India." :)

It is fairly cold here today at 12 deg F or -11.11 deg C.
I am glad we have no errands today.

91 this morning.  There is rain and snow to the West and North of here but so far we have only seen a drizzle.  We still my get some between now and Friday so hoping for it.
I got the Macbook  yesterday and the seller was quite good at detailing everything about it like any scratches or defects.  It is actually in quite good condition with only a couple of scratches on the outside that are small and for a four year old device it looks pretty nice.  The only possible bad thing is that it says the battery is in poor condition.  I charged it up fully and will see how it does but yesterday it didn't seem too bad.  After getting it set up and signing in to my Apple account etc. I started to look around the OS and it came with Mojave on it and it prompted me to update to Sierra so I did.  That took a while so I haven't spent a lot of time using it.  I have to say it has the best track pad I have ever used.  The track pad on my other laptops have been mostly useless and I always use a mouse but this one is really nice.  I just have to learn more about it.  I couldn't figure out how to scroll until I did some research and found out that it took two fingers then it worked great.  It is already connected to my phone and tablet so I am  interested to see how they work together.  It should be fun.
Tamagno, glad to her the new G6 is doing so well.

99 this cloudy morning. It was 15° when I got up at almost 10AM.

Yesterday's high was 30°, today's forecast is 34°/19°. Nothing weatherwise still until Friday snow showers.

Thanks for the suggestion Grammabear. I do trust the local pharmacist and will ask him next time I go in for strips. He should know.

Wally, I have a MackBook Air that still has Mojave on it. I have tried many times to update it and it goes for hours and then fails. Frustrating

26th Jan is the Republic Day and a holiday in India. We got our Independence in August of 1947, and by early 1950 our Constitution was drafted and adopted by the Parliament.

BigSkyGal, I suppose it's possible your MacBook is sufficiently old that it won't take the update. I think computers, phones and other digital gadgets are a lot like cars. That is, you patch them up here and there and make repairs, but there's that moment you know it's time they're replaced. Also in both cases they're expensive.

Sounds like you may have done well with your Mac, Wally. I'll be curious to hear how you like it once you've had a chance to explore.

It is SO cold at 1 deg F (-17.22 C).

My iphone seems to not want to hold a charge, does anyone know if this means it is going bad?  I don't really want to buy a new one because the prices are absolutely out of my budget.

94 this morning.  We didn't get any rain but some areas got a lot with up to 10 feet of snow in the mountains.  We have a good chance of rain later tonight.
Grammabear, you can check the health of your battery by going to settings-battery and see what the percentage shows.  Maybe this article will help :
https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

The Macbook seems to be pretty good for a four year old. The battery shows that it needs attention so I charged it up and it ran for 4 hours before needing to be charged but that is not near the 9 hours advertised when new.  Not a problem for me and I would not pay $250 to have a new one installed.  That is one thing about Apple products, they are not something a user can do anything to.  My Windows laptops all have a battery that just snaps in and you can get a new one easily.  OTOH, this little guy packs a ton of power in a very small package.  The one big drawback is that it has only one input/output port, a USB-C port that is also the charging port.  That means when it is plugged in to power you can't use any other device like an external hard drive.  I found a hub that is supposed to have a pass through for charging and USB ports so I will see how that works.

31° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 37°/27°. Chance of snow tonioght and tomorrow.

My MacBook Air is a 2018 model. I think that is when I got it. I have tried the upgrade many times and it always failed after hours of trying. I finally just gave up.

Wally, the trend toward fewer ports is something I don't like especially; now, when I look at new laptops the first thing I notice are the ports.

Grammabear, sometimes I discover my iPad battery draining too fast. Usually, it's because some app is running in the background (the big offender here is FaceTime). The easiest place to start is to close apps, in Settings turn off the button for background app refresh and location and then do a hard restart to see if it's any better.

Tamagno - I have the Tconnect app running on my iphone 7 so I can access its features for my X2 G6 pump.  I just looked at the battery percentage and it is a whopping 37%.  When I went to bed last night, phone was charged 100%.  When I got up this morning it was down to 12% and I had not touched the phone all night.  I am doing something wrong, just not sure what.  I found when I looked at 'battery health' that it had only 86% relative to when it was new.  Also, when looking at background app  refresh, it says both Wi-Fi & Cellular Data.  Do I need both or just Wi-Fi?

We are supposed to get 'accumulating' snow over the weekend, so very glad we have no errands scheduled.
