121 today morning. I woke up early and got this number before DP hit. Otherwise I am running much higher these days.

I hope you guys don't mind my blabbing about stories from my forest trips. I love talking about them. They bring nostalgic memories up for me. Things have changed so much since then. Now private citizens entry into the forests is very heavily regulated. You can go in only for a few hours on a Safari in jeeps owned and driven by local guides. Staying within is strictly prohibited. But then, it is required because interest has also swelled up. Nowadays hundreds of people line up each day for a peek into the forest kingdom. My last trip was in 2012. Since then I have always visited as a tourist. Now, I prefer a friend's place in the buffer areas. It's walking distance from the Core and heavily forested.

110 this morning.

skb - I enjoy hearing your stories because in my part of the world there are no animals like that.  I live near a large suburban area and animals would have a hard time making a safe home for themselves.  Indeed things have changed all over the world and you sharing your fond memories is a very good thing in my opinion.

102 this morning.  There was quite a thunderstorm and rain in the Los Angeles area on the other side of the mountains but here just cloudy.  It is supposed to be cooling down a bit and by the weekend maybe in the 70s.
SKB, I do enjoy your pictures and stories.  It is always interesting to see and hear about different animal life than we can see here.

114 this cool, blue sky morning.

72° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 81°/43° though I kind of doubt it will get that high.

skb, I too enjoy your photos and memories of your adventures in the wild. It is something those of us here in the US will never experience.

OK. So here's one more.

About 175 kms from Mumbai lies the small historic town of Junnar. The surrounding areas have hill-top forts, caves, lakes and a very old pre-historic temple. One of the lakes is our favored camping site. There are no officially designated camping sites in India. You just find a place you like and pitch your tent.

The farmers of the county who mostly grow sugar cane were having a lot of trouble with the growing population of leopards. The sugar cane fields give the leopards a perfect hiding place during the warm days and at night these large cats come into the villages for food. Goats, sheep, dogs, chicken or even pigs became their pet targets.

The forest department deputed an officer to help solve the problem. Within a short time he had captured more than 100 leopards to be later released in the deep forests. He was given a special award for this feat. The complex where some of the caged leopards were kept, was close by and we went to have a look.

I clicked a lot of pictures of the leopards. One particular leopard was really mad and kept snarling the loudest. I had positioned my camera and tripod at about knee height and was clicking his pictures from that low level while I was on my knees. My lens was just about able to fit the gap between the iron bars.

At one point he became so charged up that I was certain he was going to leap at me. Even though he was behind the bars, a charging leopard snarling at you is not easy to handle. I thought that I had a good chance of getting a picture of him in mid air. While I was thinking all that, he jumped at me, literally before I could blink. I fell backwards along with my camera and thought that I had missed the golden opportunity. But actually i did get in a few clicks, just in time.

109 this morning.

skb - Those are awesome pictures of the leopard.  He looks like he was planning to make "lunch" out of you (if there had not been a barrier between you and him).

101 this morning.  Clear sky today and temp in the mid 80s so quite a nice day.  The fires are still burning but the smoke is going away from here so that is a relief.
Pretty impressive SKB.  A beautiful animal but I wouldn't want to meet it in the wild.
Grammabear, the link SKB posted should give you the information you need.  I normally remove a program from the control panel, click on control panel, click on programs and remove programs and select the one you want to remove.

Yes very powerful. Note that there is an injury on his forehead, between his eyes. That's from repeatedly banging their heads against the bars.

110 this rainy, cloudy morning.

Would anyone mind sharing the brand of coffee maker you use, if any, to enjoy your morning coffee?  We have had a Keurig for quite a while but it distresses me to be adding these little kcups to the landfill daily.  Not criticizing anyone else, just saying it bothers me to do it.

93 this morning.  We got to 86° yesterday and it is supposed to be 82° today but a big drop tomorrow to 72°.  I spoke too early yesterday when I said no smoke as it came in later in the morning and got kind of heavy. They have made good progress on two of the fires and they are almost fully contained but the one in the Sequoia National Park is only 11% contained and is now at 85,000 acres.  They are expecting possible rain this weekend and even snow in the higher elevations.
Grammabear, we use a Cuisinart drip coffeemaker.  I like it because it is programmable and you an set a timer and the coffee is ready in the morning at the time you set.  I usually have 24 oz. of coffee in the morning, big mug, and that is it for the day.  I have never seen any use for a single cup coffee maker and the Keurig is not something I would have but my SIL has one and loves it as she only wants one cup at a time.

121 this drizzly morning. Don't know where that came from....

65° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 57°/37° with periods of light rain.

Grammabear, I don't drink much coffee any more but on the rare occasion I do I use a Melita drip with a filter. It is old but works just fine and makes 2 cups at a time. But mostly I just drink tea.

I like both coffee and tea, however I drink two cups of coffee in the morning and water or tea from then on til the end of day.  It just disturbs me about contributing to the plastic kcups in the landfill, and I take full responsibility for not being an informed consumer.  It's my fault  and I'm just not sure how to fix it.
