skb - The Freestyle Libre was introduced in Europe in 2014 and the FDA in the US approved it in 2018 or 2019.  It has not been available here all that long.  That being said, you still need a prescription from your doctor to buy one.  It was hard for me to find a place online where I could purchase the Libre.  To complicate things a little, there are two versions of Libre available here.  I did buy a 'reader' and 2 sensors and they are not exactly cheap.  The first sensor will expire in 7 days.

When I got my shipment from the DME of the Dexcom G6 sensors, I put one sensor in the opposite arm as the Libre.  In comparison the two systems are quite different in their results.  For example this morning Libre said 137, Dexcom said 102.  When dosing insulin, a few points doesn't make much difference.  But when the difference is 35 points, that can be a problem.

Since the Libre is cheaper, I will likely keep at least one sensor on hand.  Sometimes Libre is spot on with my blood glucose meter, other times it is 30-50 points difference.  It's hard to know what to do.

83 this morning.  We got to 81° yesterday and it is supposed to be the same today but tomorrow a big drop with a predicted high of 69°  but no rain in sight here but maybe some snow in the mountains.
A while back my doctor suggested the Freestyle Libre and gave me a prescription so I bought a 3 month supply and it cost me $391.  Medicare will not cover the cost unless you are using insulin so it is not covered for most type 2s.  At a cost of $130 a month it is not really worth it to me.  I was also not happy with the accuracy of the system.  It uses the interstitial fluid instead of the blood stream to measure glucose and the difference between the sensor reading and my glucose meter were too much.
Also if you have an iPhone you don't need to buy the reader.  The app for the iPhone does the reading quite well.  I did like the ability to check any time and it also keeps a record of your glucose and it did give me a better view of how my glucose varied throughout the day.

68° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 71°/36°.

Kathy, not being vaccinated, I try not to go out any more than absolutely necessary. That is why I lump all my errands into one trip. Most people around here don't wear masks and I just don't want to take any more risks than I need to.

Is that a new banner/logo at the top of the page? Or have I just not paid attention for a while??  I like it!

I haven't tried the Libre and the reports of inaccuracy coming from you guys are definitely going to keep me away from the system. I know that Wally had one. I also know of the high price for the sensors and would not recommend it, except in cases such as Kathy's when the primary pump/sensor is a problem.

Barbara, I did change the Logo yesterday. I think the connected globe suits a Forum more than the blue/red blood drop. If you all want the old one, it is just a click away. Do let me know.

skb - I also like the globe as it seems more appropriate.

The Dexcom G6 system is more expensive than the Libre, however it is more accurate.  This morning my blood glucose monitor said 112, Dexcom G6 said 114, and Libre said 137.

Wally - I know most of the time your weather is nice and warm.  When it does get colder, do you have a sweater for your dog ?  My "granddoggie" is just 5 pounds and my son is concerned she will be cold this winter outside.

124 this morning.  I tried a little rice last night with some stir fry vegies and chicken and it did show but still not too bad.
Our high was 79° yesterday and there is a front going through today and it is windy and the high is going to be 67° so quite a bit cooler but warming back up tomorrow.
Grammabear, it usually starts getting cold more into December and January and February are usually the coldest.  No, I don't have a sweater for the dog.  She has a pretty thick coat and doesn't seem to mind the cold but she is a mostly indoor dog and has her own "doggie door" and can go in and out as she desires.  We have a pretty large back yard fully enclosed so she can run and play and loves to chase a ball and can run like mad but she also really likes it on the sofa.   ;D  ~dog~
I also like the new logo so I would keep it.   ~gjb~

93 this partly cloudy morning.

68° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 66°/32°.

My yard tigers are getting really fluffy with their Winter coats. All these little fluff balls running around is really cute. They laze in the sun on the deck during the day, pretty sure they cuddle together under the deck at night.

Evidently the Libre gives a higher reading than the blood glucose monitors. When 2 out of 3 say 113 +/- 1 they obviously win the vote of confidence.

91 this sunny, cool morning.  73/43 deg F

Last night around 7 p.m. I received a call from a male who said he was calling from Amazon Customer Service.  He said someone had tried making a purchase of a Apple Air laptop and that they were making this purchase from Ohio.  The more he talked, the more disgusted I became.  There was tons of noise in the background and his thick accent was almost impossible to understand.  Finally I told him "No thank you" and hung up.  Then on my cell phone I got a text from Amazon saying someone tried to access my account.  I deleted it, then went to Amazon, signed in and changed my password.  This online shopping gives "crooks" plenty of opportunity to cheat people if you aren't aware.

It is interesting that when I tried the Libre it consistently gave me significantly lower numbers than my blood glucose monitor.

Yeah Grammabear, you have to be aware all of the time.  I would have never answered the call.  If it is not someone I know I don't answer the phone.  If it is someone I don't recognize and it is legitimate they can leave a voice mail.  If Amazon has any reason to contact me they will use email.

Kathy, Wally is right, Amazon wouldn't call they would contact via email. I do the same as Wally does, if I don't know the caller I don't answer. If they ar legit they will leave a message. In fact my phone won't even ring unless the caller is in my phonebook. I get a Silenced Call/Spam message and go to Recents to check the caller out. Usually I block and then delete.

Wally - Barbara

I do the same as both of you in that if I don't recognize the number, I let it go to voicemail.  However, my husband is really old fashioned and grabs the phone and answers it w/o looking at caller ID.  I've asked him a number of times to please pay attention to WHO is calling, but he does not.  Aargh.....I get really nervous dealing with someone that is trying to be deceitful like the guy that called on the phone yesterday.

I tested today after a long time and I was at 135. In a way I was relieved because I was expecting worse. If you don't check, you won't know and if you won't know you won't correct. So on to the battlefield.

Kathy, phishing is all too common on the internet as well. I got a mail seemingly from Apple which said that my subscriptions needed attention. It went on that the Govt of India is going to ban the use of debit/credit cards for subscription renewals and therefore I should add some balance to my my Apple subscription and Voila !!! a link was provided for the same. I'm sure some people do fall for such tricks. The email ID for that mail was something like do-not-reply@inside-apple.com or some such entity. Delete is the only button that you should click for such mails.
