Quote from: walkerwally1 on October 23, 2021, 10:51:59 AMIt should end the fire season for Northern California where the biggest fires have been.

That would be a big relief for the residents. the monsoon in India is finally and officially over and done with for the year. Covid numbers are improving with each day, and the perceived 3rd wave didn't strike. Hope it stays that way. We are almost back to normal.

122 this cloudy morning.

Rain is predicted for us today which is welcome.  Our area is described as severe drought so this rain will hopefully help our area.  The prediction for crop harvest of corn and/or soybeans is way down due to lack of rain.  I expect that will drive up the price of groceries - again.

98 this morning.  We had a high of 75° yesterday and it is supposed to be about the same today.  Here they are predicting a pretty good chance of rain tomorrow but also windy with winds 25-35 MPH and often when it is that windy the rain kind of skirts around here.  There is definite 100% chance of rain and snow to the North and of course the usual problem of mudslides, especially in the burn areas.

109 this partly cloudy morning.

50° was the high yesterday, again 2 different forecasts on the sites I look at, 54°/28° and 54°/43°. I'll happily take the second... May see some rain this evening.

I well know Wally, the mudslides can be just as destructive as the fires.

Grammabear, it is crazy how the price of groceries has gone up! They say supply chain problems but I kind of wonder...

114 this rainy morning.

The price of frozen and or fresh vegetables in our local area has risen considerably.  We usually see this type of price increase in the middle of Winter, but now it is happening early.  The shelves are bare of frozen veggies in some stores.  They are claiming it is the 'supply chain' problem, but I'm not sure about that.

92 this morning.  We are expecting rain today but the front is moving slower than predicted so it should start after noon instead of this morning.  Northern California is already getting a lot of rain and mudslides have closed some highways.  It will be interesting to see how much snow they get in the mountains.
Yeah Grammabear, the cost of everything is going up.  I don't notice it for vegetables as much as meat.  A steak like a rib eye or NY is almost twice what it cost last year.  They are touting the Social Security cost of living adjustment as the highest in a long time, which it is, but it won't come near to covering the increase in the cost of everything.

142 this rainy morning. Don't know where that came from. Took my temp, it was 98.8° so hopefully not getting sick...

49° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 48°/39° with on and off rain. I have to make a shelter of some sort for the yard tigers. I have some tarps I can drape over the table and make a tent of sorts.

I haven't noticed any shortages but prices have really gone up!

One of my dogs died yesterday. She attacked a Cobra that had ventured into the garden and killed it. Somewhere in the scuffle the cobra also bit her and she succumbed to the poison in about 2 hours.

Oh my.  How very sad skb.  Your dog was very brave and I know your family will miss her dearly.

109 this morning.

It is getting colder here today at 39 deg F.  Yesterday we had 1-1/2 inches of rain which would have been helpful a month ago, but Mother Nature must have decided otherwise.

85 this morning.  Well, we actually did get some rain yesterday.  Not a lot but just under 1/4 inch so not bad either.  There was close to afoot of snow at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort but a lot more snow and rain to the North.  It has pretty much ended the fire season and that is a good thing.  Clear and sunny today and warming up with highs in the 80s again this weekend.
Sad to hear that SKB.  When I lived up on the mountain we had rattle snakes come through the yard once in a while and I always worried about the dogs getting bit but we were lucky and it never happened.  It is always hard to lose a cherished pet.

115 this cloudy/drizzly morning.

45° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 50°/36°. I don't know where the weather station is but it seems to be in a warmer location than here.

skb, so sorry about your dog. It is hard to lose a beloved pet and that way is particularly difficult.

I am so annoyed with my mail carrier. She wouldn't leave my Amazon order on Saturday claiming my road needed repair. It was 2 cases of canned cat food that I really needed. So now I have to go out today to pick it up and might as well run a couple other errands. I really didn't plan to go out again this month so I am really ticked off!

Yes she was very brave and a good guard dog. She has killed so many snakes before this that it never occurred to my wife that she would have been bitten. Lately we had been noticing age taking its toll on her as her movements were very slow and her preferences were more towards lazing than darting.

111 this chilly morning.

skb - I think when one loses a beloved pet, a piece of them always stays with you in your heart.  It is never easy to lose a pet.

Barbara - If your road does not repair, can you call the county highway department and raise that concern with them?  Everyone should be able to have mail delivered unless Mother Nature dumps a foot of snow or some other 'natural' disaster.  I would raise heck with the post office about the mail carrier.

Wally - When will the snow in the mountains make the wildfires be described as 'under control'?  I wonder if the fire fighters are not greatly relieved that their end of season is approaching?

84 this morning.  It is warming up now and clear and sunny today.
Grammabear, the rain and snow pretty much ended the fires and fire season in Northern California.  Southern California did not get as much rain and snow so it helped but the possibility of fires will continue with warm and dry weather.  The fires in the North were the largest so the weather was a real benefit.
