113 this sunny, but cold morning - 27 deg f

We have had unusual animals in our house too.  Once a bird fell into the chimney flue and got into the living area of the house.  It took forever to coax him to fly through the open entry door.  He was scared and so was I.  Very glad we don't have snakes visit often.

96 this morning.  It is still pretty warm here.  High yesterday 79° and heading to 82° today and it will stay there through the weekend.
Unlike when I lived up on the mountain we don't have any problem with rodents, snakes or other creatures here in town.  There are quite a few birds around but they have never been a problem.  Our chimney has a spark arrestor on it so a bird could not go down it.  We have had doves come into the garage when the door was open and had to chase them out.

103 this cold morning.

Happy Diwali to all.  Enjoy the celebrating.

Today the temperatures are below freezing.  It is also cloudy outside and it looks like snow could be coming although it isn't in the forecast.  It's a good day to stay inside and get caught up on house chores.

104 this morning.  No snow here today, yesterday we hit 84° and today it is supposed to be the same.  I am really enjoying the weather but would really like to see some rain but there is nothing in sight.  There is a system moving through North of here and they may get some snow in the higher mountains so that is a positive.
SKB, Happy Diwali to you !  Hope the New Year brings good fortune.

Hope so too. Thanks everyone for your good wishes.
A friend's son clicked this picture yesterday. This is from a forest that was like home to me from 1996 all the way up to 2002. Within a year or so we hope to build a small resort of sorts close to the Pench Tiger Reserve in Central India. My friend and his son are all part of the project.

skb - That is an awesome picture of the tiger.  To see such power in an animal must be quite interesting.  What part of Diwali might be your favorite?

Yup. Click the picture to see in full size. I like the lighting lamps all over the house, and the variety of sweets  :D . I haven't been fond of firecrackers since I crossed my teens.

87 this morning.  It continues to be in the mid 80s here with no rain in sight but there is a storm system moving in North of here and the Pacific North West is going to see rain down to the central part of California so there should be rain and snow in the Sierras.
That is quite a picture SKB.  Not sure I would want to be close enough to a tiger to snap that !

125 this blue sky morning. Don't know where that came from...

50° was the high yesterday, did have a few showers in the afternoon. Today's forecast is 57°/36°.

Amazing photo skb! I'm kind of with Wally, don't think I'd want to be that close to a tiger to take a photo like that.

Oh that picture is taken from a safe distance by using a telephoto lens. I have been re-compiling my Camping/Trekking Log Book and going through a lot of the old stuff that I have.

On an extremely hot afternoon in 2005 I sighted a male tiger sitting in a pool of water to keep himself cool. When I first sighted him he was about 30 meters away. Of course, we were in a SUV and we were 6 people. I decided that I'd maneuver the car to as close to him as he would permit. It took me almost an hour to get from 30 meters to 5 meters away, all the time keeping a close eye on his movements, making sure he wouldn't be too uncomfortable so as to get up and walk away. Soon he relaxed completely and we spent 5 hours with the tiger, later joined by more vehicles and casual tourists. Here's 2 pictures of (a) the first sight and (2) in close proximity. Click them to see in full detail. The 2nd picture is taken from outside the car while squatting on the ground. I knew he was very comfortable in the water and wouldn't want to get out. Besides, he had just finished a meal, which was a buffalo about 1/2 a km away.

Technology today makes it a little easier to capture wildlife in its elements without the risk. Now robots and drones do all the photography of the films that you see on TV. Good quality cameras have become so small that they can fit into a shirt button. But if you know and understand animal behaviour you can always take timely action.

The pictures of the Tiger are beautiful and the colors of his coat are brilliant.  You have a very good idea of what makes an interesting picture.
