41° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 43°/23° with a good chance of rain.

Boost drink has corn syrup as the second ingredient in the list of ingredients.  I used to use Boost when I would get a 'low' as it raised my sugar promptly...and then my sugar kept going up.  It might work differently for you as Type 2.

QuoteI can have the same identical meal, in this case it was breakfast, for two days in a row and still end up spiking to almost 200 on one day or maybe 135 the other day.  It makes no sense to me and when that happens, it is upsetting.

There are so many factors that contribute to the BG 'for the moment'. Let me try and think of some. In your case, (a) portion size (b) Time of the meal (c) Time you took the reading (d) How well you slept for the night (e) any thing else you consumed/munched/drank in between (even a teeny weeny bit) (f) The status of glycogen reserves in your liver (even as a T1, it matters) (g) your emotional state on the given day as it tends to alter the hormones and above all (h) The complications of Type 1. There must be many more that I have missed out.

For a Type 1 the continuum of the auto-immunity is important to understand and guage. What I mean is, that the Beta Cells being regenerated and destroyed by your autoimmune system is an ongoing process. It doesn't stop from the day of onset of the disorder. Every moment and every day that process is on and that is what makes it more difficult to understand and get a grip on.

115 this foggy morning.

Getting a grip on how T1 functions and also doing a bolus changes from day to day.  Even with a pump, it is almost impossible to 'mimic' a healthy pancreas function.  I recently came across an article online about the "Warsaw Method" of figuring a bolus not just for carbohydrates, but this method also includes protein and fat.  Only problem with it is that it only includes food that has a nutritional label...homemade food does not have this.  I have to do some more research on incorporating homemade food with this method.  For now, carbs do matter and with holidays approaching it is important to me.

97 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 72° but it is warming up and heading to 77° today and 82° through the weekend.  Some weather for Fall !
When I first started on taking charge of my diabetes, after years of following advice from doctors that didn't help, I made a detailed record of what I ate and learned the nutritional values of everything I ate.  One thing that helped was the Fitbit app that has a food diary that saves the information and it is easy to enter a food and the quantity so the total of carbs, protein and fat were shown for each meal.  It takes some time and effort but I learned a lot from it.  I don't keep a record now but I know pretty well what I eat will effect my bg.  Maybe more work than most people want to go to but it did help me.

Fitbit has an app that helps with nutritional values?  Wow!  I have an old, old fitbit that is not even sold anymore.  It is just a simple piece of equipment I carry in my pocket.  I would gladly welcome help with figuring out values of food, especially things we make at home.  Thanks Wally.  :)

Well, Fitbit did have an app for your Windows desktop that had the food log but I don't see any way to get to it to install it anymore.  The strange thing is that it still exists on my computer and it works the same as always.  I have no idea why they don't offer a way to get it now.  They seem to only be interested in phone apps anymore.  There are other sites that offer the same type of service.  One is Myfitnesspal  :

https://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/learn_more

I looked at it a long time ago but liked the Fitbit version better but the advantage of these programs is that you can save the foods you normally eat and enter what you ate and the nutritional values are entered for you.

108 this cloudy morning.

38° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 39°/27° with showers and possible snow tonight. Actually a few spits of snow right now (11:20AM)...

Grammabear, I don't usually drink that much Boost at one time, just a glug here and there when I feel like I haven't eaten enough. So it probably was the 1/2 bottle I had for dinner...

When first diagnosed, I used Myfitnesspal to keep track of my foods. I found it very helpful to build a library of what I could safely eat and what to avoid. Don't use it any more as I pretty much know now what to avoid...

Wally - The desktop Fitbit version might have been eliminated because it seems that everyone is "on the go" these days and the mobile version was more convenient.  When I downloaded the mobile version, it almost automatically put me down for "renewal" for $79 a year.  I will use the free version for awhile to see if it helps me keep track better.

Barbara - I think the Boost product is okay for me once in a while, but sometimes I tend to get a bigger portion than I need.  I, also, find MyFitnessPal helpful.  My problem is knowing what to avoid and doing just that all at the same time while watching my DH enjoy what I must avoid.  :)

In the early days we used this site;

As you gain a grip on things everything becomes automated and intuitive. I haven't used that site for a long time but it is a good one.

103 this rainy morning.

I will look at the nutrition link provided after I can see better.  Having trouble with my vision for the past few days and reading is very hard.

96 this morning.  Warming up again and we will be in the 80s for the rest of the week.  Another "atmospheric river" heading to the Pacific North West so Washington and Oregon and maybe Northern California will see rain and snow but nothing coming down this far.

I have also used that site to find the nutrition composition of different foods, also the USDA had a site that listed nutrition data that I have used.  The advantage of the Fitbit app and Myfitnesspal is that when you enter a food and make it a favorite then anytime you want to list that food it already has that information and all you need to do is input the quantity.  It makes it easy to keep a diary of your food intake each day and show a total of the macro nutrients you are eating each day.  I also don't use it anymore because after a few years I really have a pretty good idea of what my diet is doing but it was quite enlightening when I was doing it.

124 this lightly snowing morning.

43° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 39°/23° with snow showers. It isn't a heavy snow, it is barely sticking at this point, but if it keeps up much longer it will. Yard tigers are all under the deck, probably huddled together.  This is the first snow for the babies.

The "S" word is in our forecast for the first time this season.  I'm not excited but since we can't stop it, I guess we deal with it.

94 this morning.  No snow here with highs this week in the low 80s so it's still shorts and T-shirt weather here.  Like you said Grammabear, you can't do anything about the weather so when it gets nasty you just have to deal with it.  We will have cold winter weather here but it is usually more in January and February.

Wally - I would love to have 'shorts and tshirt' weather here, but like you said it is what it is.  Not about weather, but is there any way to tell if a charging cord is no longer good?  I have tons around here, some I purchased, some were given to me but some simply don't charge anymore.  Somehow they have all become mixed together and I would like to be better organized or maybe ditch them all and purchase new ones for DH and myself.
