117 this cloudy morning. No idea where that came from other than I got up much earlier than normal...

32° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 5°/-6° yeah a big  ~shvr~  I was going to go out to run errands today...not going anywhere at this point! I should have gone out yesterday...oh well...

The mailbox alert probably wouldn't work for me as my box is close to 1/4 mile away with a house in between. I still haven't gotten my box that they "supposedly" tried to deliver on Tues. I guess I am going to have to call and go and pick it up there. I wish there was a way on Amazon to choose the delivery provider.

Tamagno, porch pirates have been around a long time, well before Covid. We have had some around here occasionally. That is part of the reason I hate when the USPS carrier puts my package on top of my mailbox!

Barbara - Yes, I agree that 5 deg is just TOO cold to go anywhere.  Here it was 0 deg when I got up this morning.
I, too, wish Amazon could choose the carrier for their orders.

We have a small yellow flag that lets us know when the mail delivery person has put mail in our box.  But...the flag can also flip up if the wind is particularly strong that day, so I don't know if a digital system would work for us either.

I wish I knew why the blood sugar goes up just after my feet hit the floor in the morning - especially when I haven't had anything in the way of food to cause it from the night before.  Then of course my blood sugar takes a nosedive when I take a shower - I can expect a low bs 9 out of 10 times.

112 today morning. Got up early and probably beat the liver dump.

That's probably what is happening in your case too Kathy, even though you are T1. But that drop after the shower is something that needs some study or expert's comments. It would be interesting to find out.

John, crime rates have actually dropped during the pandemic and so have death by other natural causes, like accidents. I read a newspaper article during the peak of the pandemic that though India was losing many people due to Covid it was saving more lives that were being lost due to just road accidents. I don't remember the exact numbers though.

115 this morning.

Thanks for the link Grammabear. Sadly, I doubt very much these have enough power to get through a quarter mile of trees. I've got my eye out for new ideas - there's something similar made by Amazon, but still the same troubles.

SKB, that rings true and about as I figured. I haven't seen traffic accident incidence stats for here nor do I know what our current death stats are. I do hear anecdotally from friends or my wife of deaths from The Plague. My wife has been following death stats town by town since this started and likely knows this stuff.

The wind chill this morning makes it feel like -11 deg when in reality it is a balmy 3 deg above zero.  I'm tired of this cold, cold weather.

The "low" after a shower supposedly has an explanation.  I did a brief search on the subject and found the following.  In the warm atmosphere of the shower with warm water running, the temperature of the room and the water increases body temperature thus increases the insulin absorption, sometimes quite dramatically.  When one steps out of the shower, the temperature difference encourages a drop in blood glucose.  Now - if I could find a 'simple' explanation for the "when feet hit the floor" phenomenon.

88 this morning.  It is going to be windy today and a bit cooler but certainly not cold.  I do feel for those of you dealing with those very low temps.
Grammabear, the "Dawn Phenomenon" is common with T-2s , my BG will increase after I am up and like todays 88 I will probably be around 100 in a couple of hours.  Like SKB I am not sure how it affects T-1s though.  I never tested right after I got out of the shower though, might be interesting.
I am not sure what the death rate by other causes is here but traffic accidents did drop dramatically and car insurance companies issued a rebate to customers because claims dropped so much.

93 this mostly cloudy morning.

I hear you Grammabear! It is a balmy 2° with a wind chill factor of -10 here this morning. I may have to wait one more day before I go out.

Yesterday's high was 10°, today's forecast is 3°/-6° with 40% chance of snow showers this afternoon (I hope not!).

My first DH is Chinese so I am aware of some celebrations. Today is the Lunar New Year, this year is the year of the OX. Both my DD and I are born in the year of the OX so our art project today is to draw an OX. Fun but not so easy...

Our Home page has an article on The Dawn Phenomenon. With use of exogenous insulin there's another type of rebound that comes into play which is known as Somogyi Effect. But both of these come into play just before you wake up (maybe an hour or so) as soon as the brain realizes that you are about to wake up and not as you hit the floor.

131 myself as a case in point. Yesterday morning I woke up 2 hours earlier and "caught" myself at 112.

Tamagno

159 this morning.

Grammabear and BigSkyGal, it's another cold day here as well. Tomorrow promises to add snow.

My CGM sensor has failed early so I'm collecting blood the old fashioned way this morning. It's not terribly difficult to change the sensor, but I decided to wait just awhile.

My thoughts over things like dawn effect and fasting blood glucose as related to type 1s are in flux somewhat as so many adjustments in insulin delivery are now calculated and delivered without my intervention. I'll reserve further comment until my thinking on the matter has more clarity.

Tamagno - Yes, I agree with you about the Dawn Phenomenon and Somogyi effect.  It is hard to discern which is to blame when the CIQ on the pump is always making insulin dose adjustments without our knowledge.  There are too many variables when using insulin to stay 'on top' of things 100% of the time.

Our weather continues to stay right around zero degrees with wind chill well below zero.  We went out yesterday for a hair cut, but were really happy to return home afterwards.

Has anyone ever had the battery on their cell phone replaced?  I have a suspicion that it is my phone battery that is old and cannot hold a charge like it once did.  I am not keen on buying a new phone as they are really expensive.  But I don't know if replacing the battery is a good idea either.

88 this morning.  It looks like a big part of the USA is going to see very low temps, snow and ice in the next couple of days.  Hope everyone is able to stay safe and warm.
Grammabear, I think you have an iPhone 7.  If you open settings and scroll down to battery and open it then select battery health it will show you the battery capacity.  If it is, say 50% it is how it compares to a new battery and how much of a charge it is capable of.  You might check with Apple because they have offered a free battery replacement for some phones.  You can send them your phone to have the battery replaced for a fee which is a lot less than a new phone but you are out of a phone for as long as it takes. I got the new iPhone SE 2020 for $400 and it is the same size as the 7 and I really like it plus it will stay "new" longer.

124 this cloudy morning. Kind of expected as I was awakened in the wee hours of the morning with my pipes making a weird knocking noise. They weren't frozen as water was flowing. Figured out this morning that probably my filter needs to be replaced. Will have to call the plumber.

It got to a surprising 12° yesterday, today's forecast is 10°/0°. I got stuck in my driveway yesterday trying to go out to run my errands so I called my neighbor but he messaged back he was out of town. So that left me with calling the plow guy I used a couple of years ago. He plowed this morning and I will be going out in a bit to get my errands done finally.

Just hope everything holds steady so I can get to ultrasound appointment on Wed.

129 today morning.

The reason for the DP is the mix of hormones that are released early morning. The glucose levels rise as a response to that. While insulin can be monitored and injected, the other hormones cannot be controlled. Even with T1s there is some effect though not so clear and easily understood.
