95 this morning.

skb - Thank you for the link and the info on people in your country.  Before Covid, we would notice people of all ethnic groups sight seeing during the Summer season here.  Now, as you have indicated, the finances have shut down the tourist trade for the most part.

Tamagno - Your wife is a LOT braver than I am to set traps out for 'meece'.  That is my husband's job here.  We have mice in the attic and the basement but not on the first floor (at least I don't see them, but I am not seeking them out either).  Don't care much for snakes either.

The weatherman says it is 55 deg F here but it sure does not 'feel' that temperature.  A sweatshirt and long pants feel just about right.

What is a favorite food of yours, even if it isn't LCHF friendly?  Although I don't get them very often, I used to like homemade chocolate chip cookies or homemade bread.  Everything that tastes good seems to now be on the 'No-No' list.

93 this morning.  Cooler and windy this weekend as a front passes through but no rain expected here.
Because this town is considered the "gateway" to Death valley we see a lot of foreign travelers here.  For some reason they love to come in the Summer to experience the extreme heat.  Some have no idea how dangerous it can be and go off hiking and sometimes found in bad shape or expired.  I like Death Valley to explore but only in the Winter.
In the Summer we have really nice mountains to visit.  We have a lot to see only a short drive away.

119 this cloudy morning.

52° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 54°/36° with a good chance of rain.

I've been putting off running errands for days and had really planned n doing it today, but no.... maybe Monday...

With all the stray kitties I have around I don't seem to have any mouse problems. Plus there are snakes around too...

Quote from: Tamagno on April 24, 2021, 08:07:34 AMThe mice are back in force at my place. My wife started noticing them in the kitchen and decided to put traps out (unfortunately, last night all in front of the stove and sink). So, now my morning chores include collecting the traps and disposing of dead mice. Oh joy. Last night we got three out of seven traps set which is good, but I know that means there are lots more. I'd get a cat, but they're too much work - I think I'll just get a pet boa constrictor...

I once tried the new paper based mouse trap at my office. It's a square 6" paper sheet which has glue on one side. There's a protective covering on the glue which you have to peel off. Then put a few kernels of some food that the mice like. Once they step on to the sheet, the glue just holds them there and they cannot get off. Easy to just collect and throw away in the morning.

99 this morning.

I just figured out how to increase the size of text in web sites using Safari; this is great! (You'll see a small A and a larger one next to it; tapping on that lets you make text larger among other things.)

Grammabear, I'm not sure I have a favorite food exactly although ice cream would be high on the list. Since I eat very little, I'm finding I can have a couple of bites of most anything so I do. No risk of over-eating for me so why not?

For movie buffs, I watched the 1956 version of Moby dick (you can stream it for free on Tubi which is also free) and found it to be a wonderful movie. Gregory Peck as Ahab is terrific and the movie is true to the book. I was surprised to see that no less than Ray Bradbury co-wrote the screen play. Give it a watch if you like that sort of thing.

Tamagno - I had not heard of Tubi for watching movies.  I shall give it a 'look-see' later today.  Ice cream is my husband's favorite food.

We have beautiful sunshine today and a temperature of 39 deg F with a high maybe up to 50 deg F.  Enjoy your day.

82 this morning.  It is supposed to be about 10° cooler today and quite windy.  It blew hard all day yesterday and all night.  This will last through Tuesday and then warm up again to the high 80s.
SKB, I have used the glue traps before and they work quite well.  We had quite a mouse problem up on the mountain but here in town I haven't seen any which is a good thing.
From the news here India is having a really rough time with Covid, hope you all stay safe.

116 this cloudy rainy morning.

52° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 50°/37° with a good chance of rain.

I've used those sticky traps for mice. They do work well. I put a dab of peanut butter in the center, works like a charm.

Yes things are very grim. The numbers keep rising from everywhere. I think the government is to blame. They threw caution to the winds and held elections in 5 states. Elections require rallies and rallies require crowds. The graphs corresponding to the rally dates are 90 degree skyscrapers.

And then they didn't stop the Kumbh Mela. This is a religious fest which also attracts people in the millions not thousands. And now to cover all that up they are talking about double and triple mutants and newer variants in India. It's pure stupidity at work.

At home we are all OK. My wife has to take her second shot on 5th May. The rest of us are fully vaccinated for whatever it is worth.

So sad to hear of the state of affairs in India, read many reports and so saddened. Glad you and yours are safe and keep that way also thinking about Sweety hoping her and hers are safe. Things are not so bad here at this point but who knows what will happen? This is crazy times and we each have to do what is best for ourselves. Bless you!

I can imagine the spread of disease in parts of India must be a dreadful problem. I'm grateful that so far SKB and Sweety are managing all right but it must be terribly difficult. The U.S. had a similar problem during the epidemic of 1918 when the city of Philadelphia went ahead with festivities involving large crowds and suffered devastating consequences. Nevertheless, governments can't be trusted to act with wisdom so whatever is happening requires vigilance on the part of individuals.

On a vastly smaller scale, our area is seeing an upswing in reported cases for much the same reason. Admittedly, interpreting statistics involved takes some sophistication but precautions aren't that difficult if people stop to think before engaging in risky activities. Most often around here problems arise from crowds and eating at restaurants and events serving food to larger groups.

105 this morning.

We have especially warm weather predicted for today and tomorrow and extra high winds to go along with that.  I hope we don't have storms brewing about the same time.

skb - I'm glad you and your family are vaccinated and are relatively safe for now.  It is sad when government make questionable decisions that affect a large part of the population.  Stay safe and I hope things will eventually improve for your region.

I know that people who have diabetes are all different and we all have to face different problems in managing it.  I am curious if anyone else has noticed a 'difference' in their blood glucose control when the seasons change - like when it changes from winter to spring and summer?  This seasonal change I have noticed personally the past several years and was wondering if others encounter it as well?

104 this morning.  We are cooler today with a high of only 69° but we are going to start warming up and Friday is supposed to be 99°, a 30° change.  That is predicted to be the same for all of Southern California as a High Pressure system moves in.  Even Coastal areas will see temps in the 90s.
SKB, glad that you and yours are still healthy.  I think people just get tired of having to observe safety after a while and just want to be normal again even it puts them at risk.  Unfortunately it takes a toll on those who ignore the safety guidelines and the people around them.
Grammabear, I have never noticed any difference in my bg with any change of the seasons.  Maybe one of the differences between T1 and T2.

111 this partly cloudy morning.

59° was the high here yesterday, today's forecast is 57°/30°.

Need to go out today and run a few errands. I've been putting the troip off almost a week so really need to do it today.

No Grammabear, I don't notice a seasonal change in numbers, more likely some vials just seem to read higher...and of course if I fall off the diet wagon...

Everything and anything affects BG as it should and as any other body parameter. Seasonal changes in BG are well documented and a known phenomenon. Mind you, if you are moving in a very tight small range the differences will hardly be noticeable. The generally held view is that carbohydrates are better metabolized in the hotter summer months.
