100 this crisp, sunny morning.

I tried using the VPN portion of Norton 360 and since I am not tech savvy, I gave up on it.  It seemed to interfere with my Dexcom app and my Amazon app - why I do not know.

We have weather that is much cooler than normal for this time of year.  But it is sunny, so that is good.

93 this morning.  Weather here is pretty much the same each day right now, in the 90s and dry.  I think Tamagno is right, we learn to adjust to the climate we are living in.  I like the warm climate but when it gets too hot I pretty much just stay in where it is cool.  In the Summer I try to get things done as early as possible before it gets hot.  Getting into a car that has been sitting outside in the middle of the day for a while is quite difficult, you can't even touch the steering wheel until you have the A/C on for a bit.
My home network in secure so I see no need for using a VPN at home. I have used a VPN when traveling for security and it has always slowed things down.  I have the Norton VPN on my phone and tablet so if I am away from home and connect to a public access it is secure.

Finally got all my tax stuff together and will drop it off today. I am such a procrastinator!

Quote from: Tamagno on May 05, 2021, 06:34:59 AMA question for you techies: I've taken to using a VPN on my devices. At the moment I'm using Nord which has a good reputation and doesn't seem to slow anything down, but am finding various apps that won't or can't connect to the internet while its running. Mostly its just inconvenient but I haven't enough knowledge to either devise workarounds or stop that from happening. Anybody have experience with VPNs?

I don't have much experience with VPNs though I have used them in the Gulf countries where many internet platforms and services are banned.

I suspect that the apps that stop working sense the proxy being used and do not permit that, but I'm not certain.

101 this morning.

I read so much about major companies having server hacks in huge numbers that I thought it prudent to use a VPN especially as I've got almost 150 user accounts with passwords. The VPN I'm using right now seems a bit more friendly to use (especially to my router which seemed to really not like Nord)so I guess I'll probably stick with that.

My wife's going back into her clinic office to work for the first time in a year. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. I suspect it will be the catalyst for her retirement.

102 this rainy morning.

Tamagno - How far does your wife have to drive to get to the clinic?  Perhaps when the weather once again turns cold and snow begins to fly, she might be considering retirement?

Wally - The power device for phones that you recommended is working so well, I may order another.  It charges my iphone in less than 1 hour, which is most helpful since I want to keep track of my Dexcom CGM readings via phone.

Barbara - I'm glad you were able to get your tax stuff gathered up.  Now you can relax and forget about it for another year.

87 this morning.  So far not too bad here for May with temps in the 90s.  Soon we will see highs over 100° so enjoying what we have right now.

On a side note, batteries are made for approximately 500 charges, so be sure to charge your phone only when it is around 10% of charge remaining. That will ensure a long life for the phone battery.

Hehehe time does fly. 72 is too young to have a 50 year old son.

92 this morning.

SKB, I've tried a number of strategies for charging my iPad in particular as I use it almost constantly; the month I spent in hospital I kept plugged into power always but other times I let it get down to 25-30% before charging. Honestly, I haven't found it makes a lot of difference as batteries have always lasted through when I buy a new one. I have seen, however, since Apple released their latest iOS update recommendations to allow the battery to discharge completely a couple of times to prevent rapid battery discharge which seems a problem in some cases. I keep wondering though, what the recharge limitations are if you get an electric car. It'd be a huge expense if batteries only lasted through 500 charges.

BigSkyGal, I turned 70 this last year, a state of affairs I have also found shocking! Never figured I'd last this long...

The 500 rules is an approximation, so it is around that number. Secondly I have heard that said for phone batteries and I don't know if it applies to all rechargeable ones. If car batteries followed that principle, they would probably require a change of cells or something like that. Not sure.

115 this sunny, but cold morning.

My husband and I were in the grocery store yesterday when I started feeling "off".  So I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check my glucose on the Dexcom app, only to find the screen completely blank?  Duh...then it dawned on me that I had been streaming music to my hearing aid for several hours during other errands that day.  Fortunately I had my power cell with me plus the charging cord.  I plugged the phone in and within several minutes, I had access to my phone again.  Never thought I would be so dependent on a cell phone.

I must be the 'vintage' one in this group.  I will be 76 in July, my younger son just had his 46th birthday last month.  It seems like time flies.  Never thought I would make it this long either.  Also never thought my husband and I would make the '50' yr mark last September either.

99 this morning.  No need to talk about the weather here.  Today is the same as yesterday and tomorrow the same as today which is actually not bad.
The 500 charges for your phone or any LIPO battery is actually "charge cycles" which is from full to empty and back to full.  If you have a full battery and discharge it 50% and then charge it to full and then discharge it to 50% again then charge it to full that is one charge cycle.  They say it is best to not discharge below 20% for the best life and the sweet spot is between 20% and 80%.  The phones are designed to stop charging before they reach 100% for that reason.  The 500 charge cycle doesn't mean your battery will be dead then but it will have a reduced capacity. The battery on my Macbook is 5 years old and reports that it needs to be replaced but it still lasts for about 4 hours when charged so it isn't dead but it's capacity is a lot lower than new.
Grammabear, I don't think you are the "vintage" one here.  I am 78 and will be 79 in June so it looks like I am.

95 this drizzly morning.

78° was the high yesterday, today's forecast depending on which site I look at is either 54°/35° or 66°/39°. Kind of leaning towards the first one as it is overcast and only 52° right now.

I had to laugh, yesterday when I was talking to my son he said he was having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact he was 50!! Another thing that made me feel old was he said he is eligible to retire at 50...but he is going to keep working for a few more years at the fire department. Holy carp! A 50 yr old son that is going to retire soon...
