We are all vintage variety here, including the ones that don't post anymore. I'm 63 but with the going-ons you never know what the next moment holds. Sometimes this vintage thing about the Forum worries me.

110 this morning.

When I turned 60 I was in the best shape of my life and I fully expected to be active and functional when I retired.  Of course, things change...

As to the aging of this site's members, SKB, I understand your concern but it crosses my mind that it could perhaps be turned into an asset.  Organizations like AARP and WebMD have prospered catering to "seasoned" citizens especially insofar as there are a lot of us and we tend to have greater buying power along with health concerns and time to spend considering them.  I suppose it goes once again to the marketing questions which are, at least to me, elusive.

111 this bright, sunny morning.

Each day that we all wake and get out of bed is another chance to enjoy life that day.  Maybe we don't feel good that day, but there might be something positive that we can appreciate.  That is how I try to look at it - most days.

Does anyone know if cooking rice and then refrigerating it might cut back on the carb count of rice?  I would like to make 'fried rice' with being heavy on the fresh veggies, light on the meat and light on the rice.  Rice has not always been kind to me, but every now and again I want to have some.

89 this morning.  Pretty windy yesterday but still warm at 90°.  Looks like the same today without the wind.
I am not as capable as I was even a couple of years ago physically but I think I am in pretty good health for an old Coot.  I think that one reason the forum is not bigger is that so many are now using social media like Facebook and on line forums like this are not as popular.
Grammabear, yes, I posted about retrograding rice and potato a while back.  Cooking it and then refrigerating it does seem to work to lower the effect of the carbs but it is not a magic bullet.  By that I mean that it will allow you to eat more you still need to watch the amount.  I can get by with about 1/2 of a small baked potato or about 1/2 cup of rice without raising my bg too high but if I try more it will show.  I think trial and error is the only way to tell.

107 this cloudy, windy morning.

Yesterday's high was 56° today's forecast is much cooler at 48°/36°. I hate the wind!!

I think you are right Wally, people are using social media sites more than forums like this more these days. I don't do Facebook, Instagram or any other site.  I do have a twitter account but very rarely even go there. I use this forum daily and another one that discusses TV shows. Boring I know but what can I say, I'm old... LOL!

If you don't reheat rice (or potatoes) they should be fine. When you reheat them the give rise to the resistant starch, is what I have read. I'm not sure.

92 this morning.

Grammabear,  I can usually eat about a tablespoon of rice or potato without huge repercussions, but I've not tried the reheating system. As usual you'll just want to experiment.  Thing is, though that I don't seem very consistent in my response to foods and there are things that never raised glucose that suddenly do.

102 this cold, rainy morning.

My 'experiment' with retrograding rice went well 'this' time.  My fried rice was heavy on the veggies (celery, Vidalia onions, bell peppers and carrots) plus I added chicken thighs.  My glucose never went higher than 130 which surprised the heck out of me.  That is not to say what would happen should I try it again.

Happy Mother's Day Barbara.  Hope you have a pleasant day with a bit of sunshine too.

Isn't it interesting how each person who has diabetes also has different reactions to their environment, foods, and medicines like insulin or metformin?

101 this morning.  A bit late today, I got sidetracked and forgot.  Another warm and nice day today.  I don't expect to see any cold until next Fall.
I haven't seen that heating up retrograded rice or potato has had any effect on the retrograding but it could very well vary from person to person so it needs to be tried in steps to see how it works for you.  You still have to be aware of the portion that is OK.

110 this partly cloudy morning.

Yesterday's high was 52°, today's forecast is 54°/34°.

Thanks Kathy, same back at you! Hope you have a lovely day too.

I have been eyeballing these tiny red potatoes at the grocery, may try retrograding some and make potato salad...

Sweety

132 fasting reading today.

I had some fried banana chips yesterday evening. I never knew that it would increase my reading so much.

My age is 42.

102 this morning.

Sweety, bananas are high in sugar and get more so the more they ripen.

Grammabear, I almost never bolus since I got the G6 - it adds/lessens insulin pretty well.  I wouldn't be surprised if G6 adjustments helped your post-rice glucose stay low as well.

110 this rainy morning.

I am not sure how or why the post prandial number stayed at a respectable level for me.  I do know that I better not 'push my luck' by pigging out with rice.  It tastes ever so good, but my diabetes will never let me forget that it is just waiting to spike my glucose levels.  I do have to bolus appropriately for most meals with the exception of scrambled eggs in the morning.

Our weather got down to freezing last night and is also predicted to get down close to freezing for the next two nights.  We have to cover all of our newly planted flowers.

97 this morning.  Don't have to worry about freezing here with an overnight low of 56° and heading to 92° today.  We used to have that happen when I lived up on the mountain, it would warm up and the fruit trees and flowers would bloom and then we would get a freeze and kill all of the new buds.
Yeah Sweety, I learned a long time ago that bananas were something I had to stay away from.  I pretty much avoid all fruit.

112 this mostly clear morning.

55° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 61°/32°.

Yes Sweety, fruits and fruit juices are very high in sugar. About the only ones I can get away with are very small servings of berries like blueberries or raspberries, only in small quantities and not daily.
