Our area increasingly uses large conglomerates of hospitals all controlled by a single corporate entity that also runs the majority of private practices.  While their advertising boasts patient centered care, in reality its anything but.  MDs are viewed as interchangeable employees and treated as such with no or very little thought given to their qualifications. In that state of affairs, the best MDs go elsewhere while patients are treated by people who neither went to good schools nor did especially well.  The result is robotic doctors who rely solely on test results and who lack sufficient intellect or curiosity to look beyond their already inadequate training and treat unwary patients from that perspective.  Little wonder diabetics are left in such a sorry state...

102 this morning.

We mowed our lawn yesterday and it was perfect weather for mowing.  The sun was shinning, the wind was a gentle breeze of 6 mph out of the south and it didn't rain.  At least that job is done for another week.

My GP may not know as much about diabetes as I wish she knew, but I do have to give her credit for following the LCHF way of eating.  She mentions it to me on occasion, always "off the record" and I like hearing what she finds helpful.

84 this morning.  We don't have a very large lawn but happy to have what there is.  Here in this town for the last few years there are laws that do not allow for any new construction to have and grass or flowers in the front yard, only rocks and cactus and the like to preserve water.  Since the front lawn here was put in before any of those regulations don't apply.  There are only three houses on this block that have lawns.
I am reminded of when Dr. Eric Westman was asked how he got interested in low carb treatment for diabetics and he said that he listened to his patients, something that is rare for a doctor.  In particular he had two patients that were diabetic and had switched to the Atkins diet and had good results and that got him started.  Not anything that was taught in medical school.

90 this  mostly sunny morning.

72° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 73°/38°.

My lawns are close to needing a mowing, but the lawn guys are so noisy they scare off the kitties for a couple of weeks and I think there is a litter of babies under the front deck so I will put off the mowing for a while just like I did the bug spray people...

88 this morning.

One thing that's driving me nuts with my Dexcom G6 are the seemingly constant alarms and alerts.  I have it set on vibrate but, for example, it's been going off way too much to alert me that the transmitter battery is low and I need a new one.  That along with alarms that it "thinks" I'll be going low in the next 15 minutes are really over the top. I love the system, but need to figure out a way to get it to shut up occasionally. Good grief!

Wally, I read about your area's mandate for lawns of rock and gravel with a slight smile of irony.  In Connecticut mining is illegal so gravel is at a premium (the dance getting around the mining ban is intricate).

104 this rainy morning.

We have slightly more than 1 acre of lawn to mow and it takes two people about 3-1/2 hours to mow it.  My husband does the push mower and the trimming around the bushes and trees.  I use the riding mower and do the wide open spaces.  Between the two of us, we manage to get the lawn mowed.  This has to be done once a week during the months of May, June, July and August.  We do have a garden, but do not use a hose to water the plants.  Hubby has a rain barrel to catch rain and he uses that to water our flowers.

Tamagno - Which app are you finding bothersome for the G6?  Is it the Dexcom G6 or the tconnect or both?  I also get annoyed at the 'pre-low' alerts or the ones that look like they are going low.  On the Dexcom G6 app, I just turn off the alerts period.  With the tconnect app, it isn't quite that easy.  On the tconnect app, there is a 'notification' setting where pump alerts and alarms can be turned off too, but obviously that is discouraged for safety reasons.

94 this morning.  It is going to be cooler today and tomorrow and windy both days but warming up starting Monday and back to the mid 90s.
We have no problem with getting gravel and rocks here and our biggest problem is getting water so xeriscaping is becoming more of the norm for yards in all of Southern California.  Actually it doesn't look that bad most of the time.

Yesterday turned out to be the perfect time to set up the new pump I got from Medicare as I had to replace the transmitter as well as put in a new insertion set plus install a new sensor on my CGM.  Turned out to be a fairly big project and took me around two hours total.  Grammabear,  I haven't yet found a way to turn all the alerts off but will definitely look further.

Wally, you're right, that's quite a lovely yard. Do you have to do much upkeep on it?

Well, my Fitbit says I got 25 minutes of sleep last night which is a new record low. It surely must be in a fit of either pessimism or sarcasm; I'm not always sure...

Wally - Your yard is beautiful and if I could have a yard like that, I would do it.  When we purchased our house, some 50 years ago, we were young and impressed with all the flowers, bushes and trees that were growing here.  Little did we realize just how much work it takes to keep up that lovely look.

Tamagno - I hope you have good luck with your new pump and new equipment.  I have heard numerous people 'comment' negatively about the alerts that seem to be never ending.  I guess they all have a purpose, but I definitely agree with you in that they are most annoying at times.

The Fitbit I use is suffering from a old fashioned case of "old age" however I don't want to replace it because I don't enjoy wearing a watch.  My phone seems to do a good job of tracking steps too.

84 this morning.  The result of having salad for dinner last night.
Cooler with a high of 82° yesterday and today but quite windy.  It is going to warm up a bit starting tomorrow but the winds will hang around for a couple of more days.
I should have been more explicit about the picture, it is not my yard but an example of  xeriscaping that is seen at most homes in the area as lawns have been banned for a few years.  Our house has a grass front yard as it was in place long before the ban so we are grandfathered in.  Our neighbor is a landscaper so we have him take are of the yard.  It's not a huge lawn but it is really good at keeping the blowing dirt down.

73° was the high yesterday, today looks to be much warmer with a forecast of 81°/37°.

Wally, I would love to have that yard! I have 1.2 acre of land, some on the other side of the seasonal creek so not needing mowing, but what does is a lot! It usually takes a 4 man crew over an hour to mow around the house. Since I have all the kitties, I have let the yard go as the noise scares them off for quite a while.

I remember seeing pictures of your house, you had posted earlier. I was not sure if this was a picture of your house.

I remember Wally posting pictures of dark purple Iris flowers that I think were growing in his yard.  We also have miniature purple Iris flowers and I wish they would last all Summer.
