125 today.

Yes, we are all getting older and as expected issues will crop up every now and then. So far so good, is all I can say. about tomorrow, who knows. A couple of days ago, I lost an acquaintance to Covid-19. She was 41, was hospitalized, in the ICU, recovered, and was about to walk out of hospital. This has been seen in multiple people this time around, which definitely implies that this is a new variant.

174 this morning.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your friend, SKB; that's much too young! Sadly, I'm afraid that state of affairs is something we'll be hearing more of in the coming weeks as restrictions are being relaxed. Reports of new cases here appear to be at odds with CDC recommendations, the former being significantly higher than the latter.

Thankfully, yesterday I had sufficient return of strength that I was able to get a number of chores done.  I sure do wish I'd considered aging when I bought this joint as it has too many stairs and no full bath on the main floor which is where I spend the majority of my time. Getting up the stairs to have a shower is a significant chore and while I could have it remodeled it would be a substantial cost.

Well, at least for now I seem mostly back to my baseline where at least I can get some things done - I'll take it when I can get it!

Is it not possible to just get a bath added on that main floor.

107 this morning.

Tamagno - When my husband and I bought our place, we did consider a one story home without lots of steps.  What we did not consider was the size of the yard.  Hubby was born and raised on a farm and I was raised in the city.  We wanted space to have a garden and a yard for our children to play.  We never even considered it would take us 3-4 hours just to mow the grass every week during the Summer.

Our younger son will be coming to visit this weekend along with his two dogs.  One dog is a year old, the other is about 3 months old.  It should be fun to watch the antics of the pups.  It is at least something different rather than watching television.

85 this morning.  It looks like Summer is right around the corner here.  Heading to 96° today and we are supposed to see over 100° after the first of June.
I really liked the home in the mountains but it was a lot of work to keep up.  We had 2 1/2 acres and no lawn but a lot of weeds to keep up with.  With no electric power available we depended entirely on solar which actually worked quite well but it was a large expense.  Because we were off the grid we had to depend on batteries and a generator for backup when the sun didn't shine.  When this house in town became available at a very good price my BIL and I decided it was time to move to town.  It is a lot easier here.

119 this partly cloudy morning.

59° was the high yesterday with a few sprinkles, today's forecast is 65°/45° however my outside thermometer says it is already 71°. Chance of showers in the late afternoon.

So sorry about your friend skb.

When I lived in CA, my house was 2 stories. When I moved here to MT I specifically looked for a one story house. It is a double wide mobile home but inside you'd never know that. The original owner added a large addition and an extra bathroom with a shower. I do have 1.2 acres so a lot to mow, but for now I'm letting it go so as not to scare the kitties...

I also live in a house on 2 floors. Well, actually 2-1/2 because I have a small library on the terrace floor and staff accommodation in the basement (we call it stilt floor). The house needs a lot of work now but at the moment my hands are tied financially and I cannot even think of it. Maybe, some day.

Quote from: Tamagno on May 22, 2021, 09:01:36 AMSweety, most of us experience the "dawn effect" which is higher morning glucose as the body wakes up and there's a flood of hormones in play.  If I read your post correctly that is likely what you're experiencing.

OK. Thanks a lot sir.

120 this morning.

SKB, as you say, cost is the big factor in home renovations even if its just adding a downstairs shower - that includes the considerable expenses of zoning permits and inspections as well as the resulting increase in property taxes.

One thing I can do, though, is make an appointment to see a spine specialist to see about getting the compression fractures in my lower back repaired. I put it off because of The Plague but now with fewer restrictions it definitely is time. I think with that fixed it'll be easier to move and breath so I can regain some mobility.

Sweety, you're very gracious to refer to me as "sir." More often in recent years I'm called far less kind titles!

skb - This Dawn effect you mentioned, is there any way to avoid it?  I seem to have been dealing with it forever.  But no Doctor ever offered a workable solution.  I get up in the morning with higher blood glucose.  Then after I take my shower, my blood glucose often drops like a rock and I end up with a hypo episode.

87 this morning.  It is going to turn to hot sooner than previously predicted and now we are supposed to get over 100° on the 32st, Memorial Day.  It's been a pretty nice Spring here and 100° in June is normal.
Tamagno, I think Sir is appropriate for you !   ~hi5~
Grammabear, I'm not sure how you as a T-1 would manage dawn effect but it is a natural thing the body does.  Stored glucose in released after you end a fast to give the body the energy needed until you can eat.  Some sat that eating something low carb on waking up helps but I don't know if it works.  I have fairly low numbers first thing in the morning but by noon it will be higher but fortunately not too high.  I think trying to chase dawn effect with insulin would be quite difficult.

Thank you Wally for your thoughts.  I will research this further to see what I can learn.

Tamagno - I also agree with Wally that 'Sir' is most definitely appropriate for you.  I've been to YouTube and heard your singing...you do most definitely deserve the title.

98 this dreary rainy morning.

71° ended up being the high yesterday, today's forecast is 61°/43° with periods of rain.

Today is one of those no energy days. Didn't even get out of bed until a bit past 11AM. Slept really well, just didn't want to get up... Fortunately don't have to go any where today. I'd like to get out tomorrow or Friday to do a small shop before the long weekend.

Tamagno, I agree also that you deserve the title of sir most definitely.

109 today morning.

In India, "Sir" is generally used as a respectful form of address. Don't forget that we were ruled by the British once upon a time. But Sir John is definitely apt.

Grammabear, the Dawn Phenomenon or DP as it is referred to, is, as Wally said, is something of a specific concern to T2s. As Tamagno explained it is due to the secretion of a cocktail of hormones early in the morning, which is intended to prepare the body for waking up. Due to this hormonal release the liver is compelled to release glucose in the blood stream, and hence the high. The Forum Home Page has a good short article on this.

For me this "time" happens to be around 4:30-5:00 am. If I am awake before that or around that time and I happen to ingest something (anything) at all, this keeps my liver occupied and I can expect a lower number. For me, even my thyroxine pill works fine.

There is nothing to indicate that the system works differently for a T1 because the body is the same. However, due to the exogenous insulin being injected, the equations change a lot. I suppose the morning number would be largely dependent on the dosage and timing of the insulin administered. If you are taking any other medication or supplements, you could try taking them or just one of those at about 5 hours of your sleep cycle, if that is possible. A little bit of tweaking and experimentation would not hurt, me thinks.

??? this morning - CGM crashed in the night.

You all are kind about the "sir" matter; I must inform my wife.

Grammabear, I pretty much have given up trying to circumvent the dawn effect. For one thing, I rarely sleep through the night, so I suspect my body doesn't really know when I'm finally up for good which state of affairs combined with the G6 insulin delivery creates a situation in which my glucose will stabilize in a couple of hours whether I'm high or low.

Anyway, we lost power here during a thunderstorm last night and it didn't come back on until after 5:00am this morning. Happily, it looks like all my electronic stuff have gotten themselves reset on their own (except for my CGM which failed entirely by itself). Looks like a beautiful day today!
