(And a first, my fbg was also 94! I could never figure out why/how it could go up overnight when. I had been fasting since dinner.)

Well, your liver stores glucose and dawn phenomenon is a real thing.
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with LCHF diet.

Very much so. Some years ago, quite by accident, I figured out how to beat or soften the DP. I tend to take my thyroid medication in the middle of the night if I wake up to pee. That keeps the liver busy and it sort of 'forgets' to dump glucose at dawn.
