My numbers are starting to respond to my food control and timing of exercise to use it as a medicine. Sometime soon, I will start taking my pre-dinner readings also.

105 at bedtime last night.  Went to bed about an hour later than normal as I was waiting to get my phone charged to 100%, plus got distracted by a TV show...

If you could give some idea of the time line and what does dinner generally consist of, maybe I can give it a shot.

OK, I'll keep a diary for a few days.  Not sure I can do as specific as ShottleBop does but will try.

Tonight I was tired and cold so just. had a bowl of cinnamon oatmeal with a few small pieces of frozen mango and about 1.5Tbsp of butter and a small cookie. Just drinking water at night.

125 at bedtime last night.

Added to the info I gave you above skb: (it was a packet of instant oatmeal)

ate dinner at about 5:15PM
took several readings.  before bed:

                                    9:23PM  - 197
                                    9:54PM  - 188
                                   11:04PM  - 131
                                   11:05PM  - 125

In thinking more about this and in light of what Gastro said yesterday, "it can take around a year for the body to settle back to normal after totally giving up alcohol" these erratic fluctuations could be related to that. It isn't like I was a raging alcoholic, but I did enjoy some wine in the evenings as a regular thing. It was probably just more than my body should have handled...  (no alcohol at all since 12/15/2023 so close to a year!  Not something anyone but family has known until now)

Should be a good thing for you.
I don't trust everything the gastro says.
This is something I had written almost a decade ago.
I will write more, in detail, when I am a bit free.

skb, this is about the best I can do recording food. If it isn't helping after a few days, I'll stop. Thanks for thinking of trying this.

I will definitely look into the data to search for patterns.
What you could do to improve your understanding is for a couple of days, record your BG, at say every 30 or 45 minutes, so we can see the BG rising, peaking and then falling down again. Currently you are taking the first reading at 4 hours after your meal. We see that as higher than the before meal number, but is it the highest ?

Another obvious thing that I can see is that on Day 1 you are +75 points at 4 hours, and on Day 2 you are only +43 points. That says a lot about the meal itself. I think Oats is the problem.

Yeah, I know the oatmeal was not the best choice. It was a quick meal because I was too tired to do much else.

I will try. to remember to test before dinner tomorrow.

Today's dinner was almost the same as yesterday. I just did a test and was 128 around the 4 hr mark which is even better than yesterday though I did eat earlier. We'll see haw the rest of the evening goes.

Thanks for the input!

When I first started on the LCHF WOE I tested for several hours after a meal to find where I hit the highest reading and it was 2-3 hours after a meal so I test now before a meal and 2-3 hours after a meal and fasting.  This is a habit I have kept with and is probably not that necessary because I know pretty much how what I am eating will have an effect.  I still keep a diary of what I eat for each meal and my readings just because I always have I guess. There are rarely any surprises.
