Yeah, I was in that habit for years right after dx. I got out of the constant testing when I realized that I pretty much knew what foods were OK and what to stay away from. As I remained so steady I just got down to testing fasting, then after a while got curious what bg looked like at the end of the day so started the bedtime testing.

Then after I fell and lost so much weight I went off plan some to add back the weight. All I succeeded in doing unfortunately was start to raise my bg. What really puzzled me was the big fluctuations of bg at bedtime.

So I guess I am going to start doing some better record keeping and see what needs adjusting.

Yeah I understand you adding carbs to try to gain weight. Adding carbs seems like the best way to do it but it does kind of mess with BG.  I had the reverse problem and wanted to lose weight so I cut down on carbs, a bit, and so far it has been working.  I didn't want to lose fast but just wanted to see a trend.  So far I have lost 20 pounds and it has taken a few months but is what I wanted so working as I had hoped.  I am probably about where I want to be but wouldn't mind losing a couple of pounds more.  Gaining weight has never been a problem for me.

I usually say that "when you do something wrong (diet wise) and gain weight, that's good".  If you did something wrong and still lost weight that's a cause for worry.

Mostly Type 2s will peak at 2 hours after a meal and be back to baseline after 4. It is good to take the post meal readings at 1 hr and 2 hr as that gives you an idea of the status of your insulin release. Insulin is released in 2 phases and the 1st phase is a flush of the stored insulin which has acted upon the nutrients by 45 min to 1 hour. It is healthier to see a larger drop at 1 hour than the 2 hour mark, as that is the natural way your body is supposed to behave.

There's something wrong with the 8:05 reading. Maybe a bad strip or a typo perhaps?

There was a typo, but with the time.  It should be 8:50 not 8:05 the bg was correct though. It was the last strip in the container the next 2 readings were from a new vial.

Didn't do all the testing tonight, forgot to do a before test got busy and forgot. Didn't want to use a bunch of strips tonight w/out that baseline. Tomorrow....

Number should be better tonight. I had cottage cheese, hardboiled egg and a little salad with a few small crackers. One piece of candy and water to drink. We'll see....
