Wearable potable warmth

QuoteAs the fall chill settles in across the U.S., people are getting out their cozy sweaters and electric blankets, or stocking up on handheld heat packets for extra warmth. But sweaters and blankets are bulky, and heat packs only work for a little while. Now, researchers reporting in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces demonstrate a conductive, durable yarn for lightweight wearable heaters that are re-usable and provide constant, portable warmth.

Personally, I run hot so the cold weather doesn't really bother me. It can be -10°F outside and my bedroom window is open. I guess for those that run cold this may be a good thing...I'll pass the cold really doesn't bother me that much. (Except if my pipes freeze, but this won't help that any way!:) )

I am cold most of the time during winter.  I dress warmer even inside the house, so this might be an option for me.

I don't like the cold at all but now I don't have to be out in it very often.  When I was working I was outdoors and and had to really layer the clothing and wear heavy jackets and thermal underwear.  Indoors it is nice and warm with central heating and I prefer to stay inside.

Mumbai being coastal and located at 19oN latitude has identical weather all the 12 months except the monsoons between June-Sept. Temperature variations are very small and hardly effect clothing, so it is trousers & shirt all year round. Since you guys had already started talking about the snow, I thought this would be of great interest.

It was an interesting article. We are all so different, some needing more heat than others. I have always run hot and fortunately late DH did too. Not really fond of the heat and I really doubt if I would ever strap on a heat device...

Do you know the reason for that? I have also found myself hot to touch and can tolerate cold pretty well.

I have no explanation for it. I just tolerate cold really well as did DH. I was born in Wisconsin, maybe it is some sort of genetic thing... We moved to CA Bay Area when I was very young so never really exposed to extreme cold.  What was weird was after I met DH and went to his cabin in the Sierras, when the snow was falling I suddenly felt at home. I loved the snow and it felt a part of me. Not trying to be woo-woo or anything but it just felt like that was where I belonged...Guess that is why I am in MT now!!

Yes I think that the genes are responsible for this. I can tolerate snow also, but lately I think I need to cover my head and ears, maybe the balding pate.
