107 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 65° and should be the same today so it has warmed up.  There is a chance of rain next week for several days, not a big chance but still a chance.
Yeah SKB, there are a lot of people who are into gaming on line and competing with others.  The amazing thing about the internet is that you can be competing in a game with someone on the other side of the planet!  Those that are into competition are willing to spend a lot on the best equipment to get an edge on their opponents and will be satisfied with only the best to get even a micro-second advantage.  For me I don't need the stress of competition and only am interested in single player versions and just being able to learn how to use all of the controls to fly a plane is enough of a challenge to me.

103 this morning.  It is supposed to get to 70° today and that will be the warmest day of the week.  Much of the USA is dealing with very cold and blizzard conditions but here it is sunny and quite nice.
A very merry Christmas to you and your family SKB.  My BIL is in Arizona spending Christmas with his family so I am here with my dog.  I have big plans for today!  I am going to install a new graphics card in my computer!
I do hope Barbara is getting better and is able to return home soon but it may take some time.  It would really be nice to hear from her again.

Yes, I read reports of the super winter storm in some parts of the US. I believe around 28 people have died because of the cold and outage of power.

Your reply to my other thread has relaxed me a bit. I had a different perception of "Assisted Living". I hope she is in less pain, doing well, and will return sooner than later.

84 this morning.  We actually got to 71° yesterday now it is going to cool down a bit.  We are looking ad a chance of rain tomorrow but also wind and wind usually trumps rain here so it will probably only be windy and rainy elsewhere.
Yeah, I hope she gets better soon and is able to manage on her own and get home.  I remember when I was in rehab after my hip surgery all I wanted to do was get healed enough to go home but it takes time and some work.  At least I was close to home in this same town and I got my laptop brought to me so I was able to keep in touch.

102 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 64° but our overnight low was a warmer 41° and it is predicted to get to 64° again today.  We have a pretty thick cloud cover and that is what keeps the overnight low higher.  It is supposed to have a chance of rain later in the afternoon but it is also supposed to be windy so we may not see any rain here but in the surrounding area.
Appreciate that SKB, I know you will pass along what you know when you hear anything.  She may have a better idea of how long it will be before she can return home.

105 this morning.  Well, we had some rain all around us yesterday but nothing locally.  It was not a lot this side of the mountains but farther north it was quite a lot which is nice.  We have another chance on Saturday but it is also going to be windy so it is iffy.

I haven't heard anything from Barbara for some days now. I sent her 2 short messages through email, but I guess she doesn't have her laptop or phone with her. I hope she is being taken good care of.

90 today.  We got to 66° yesterday and there was some rain all around us but as usual the wind kept it out. There is a better chance we will see some rain here Saturday so we will see how that develops.  The Sierra mountain range is getting a fair dose of snow and right now they are sitting at almost 15 feet at the top of the Mammoth Mountain Ski area which is South of areas like Tahoe that have been seeing much more snow.  I hope it keeps up!
I really doubt that she has her laptop with her and she may have her phone but when I was in the Hospital recently I had my phone but I didn't have a charger so I had to be stingy with how much I used it.  I was too far from home to have anything brought to me.

I am sure she is being taken care of well but it isn't like being home.  She said she was sent to assisted living but I am not sure if she is right about that, maybe but it depends on what type of care she needs.  She may be in a Skilled Nursing Facility if she needs medical care.  Medicare only pays for 2 weeks in a SNF and then moves you to an assisted living facility.  Hard to know but it depends on what kind of care is needed.  Hopefully she will be able to contact us soon.

80 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 60° and it is supposed to be about the same today with cloudy skies but no rain.  Tomorrow there is a big storm front that is going to be bringing rain and snow to the entire West Coast and we may get some of the rain here in the desert.  The mountains are expected to get up to three feet of snow so a pretty good storm.  We have been doing fairly well in December with rain and building the snow pack and January looks like it will start with more so maybe it will help to bring up the level in our reservoirs which are dangerously low.  It is not going to end the drought but it will sure help.
117 is not bad at all SKB, I know you have been avoiding testing for a while so this may be good information for you.  I still test 4 times a day, just out of habit mostly like I still keep a log of all I eat at each meal but I don't keep track of Macros like I used to and that is just out of habit also but it gives me something to do  ~clp~

Quote from: walkerwally1 on December 30, 2022, 10:57:23 AMI know you have been avoiding testing for a while so this may be good information for you.

Every year, around Diwali, my whole regime of BG control goes for a toss. After years of strict discipline with food and what not, I tend to give up or rather give in and once that happens, the tendency has been, let it come. I'm still very vary of medicines, and just take a pill for thyroid and the metformin.

For the past few months I have been busy and mentally occupied building a database management application based on Access/SQL/VBA for my business use. It is a setup for Management Information Systems (MIS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) needs and just stops short of Accounting needs. The trials/testing/re-modelling has kept me quite occupied and I am happy with the progress that I have made so far, considering that I built it completely by trial and error and by self learning.

The funny part is, that it all started out as a fun project, when I made a small application for my wife who designs, makes and trades in ladies garments and was struggling to manage her affairs just with excel as her business grows. Her app is based on just 3 tables for Customers, Vendors and Orders, but when I started building it for our needs, the app just kept growing and growing and growing. Every day, my staff comes up with new requirements and then I spend the next few days making that module. And then that results in more testing, more errors and so on and so forth. Finally, we have a usable app, but it is going to be a work-in-progress for a long time to come, with more assets being built in as time passes.

Having done that, I wonder, how much time and effort would have gone in, building this Forum software, which is similarly based just on a database at the back end, and several php and other applications on the front. But this is done by 100s of hard core professionals and S/w engineers.

Phew, I didn't realize, how long this post has become. That too, on the last day of the year 2022. Hope the next year goes well for all of us, and Barbara is back soon.

107 this morning.  We are supposed to have a 100% chance of rain later today and tonight so I hope that is going to happen.
Last day of 2022 so happy New Year to you and your family SKB and here is a hope for a good 2023 for all and I also hope Barbara is back soon.
I have tried to do some programing before and the result was not near as good as I hoped.  I have a lot of respect for anyone that is successful at developing a program that works.  I know it is not easy and it is especially difficult to do it by yourself.

Microsoft Access is mostly drag and drop so in that sense it is not that difficult to comprehend. While you drag and drop icons into play, the s/w at the back end translates what you want, into SQL commands. The customization comes from a combination of Macros and VB commands that you can put into place. Here too, there are 1000s of snippets available on the net, if you know where to look.

I will send a mail to Barbara today, wishing her. Hope she replies and updates me.
