93 this morning.  We actually did get some rain last night, about 1/3 inch which may not seem like a lot but for here it is significant.  Other areas of the West Coast got a LOT of rain and snow so it was a big storm.  Of course flooding in some areas in Northern California.  Meteorologist are calling it an Atmospheric River so I guess it helps to put a name on stuff.  It is welcome and does help to restore some of the reservoirs that have been so low.
That looks good SKB, I do use Access and Excell but just in a simple way and have never looked into trying anything like that but then it is just for my personal use.
I do hope you are able to get some response from Barbara.  It would be nice to get some kind of update.

A new week, a new year, and back to the same old grind. Let's hope for a better 2023. Barbara did respond and I have posted that on the thread dedicated to her. Good news  ;D

83 this morning.  So good to hear from Barbara and it will be good to have her back.  We have dwindled down to a pretty small "group" so you really miss it when only one of us is not able to post.
New Years Day was yesterday but because it was on a Sunday today is when most businesses are closed and people have it off.  The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade is never on a Sunday so it is today and dominates all television broadcasts so I am watching it right now.  It is pretty amazing how much effort goes into it.  The good thing is that the weather is great this morning and rain is predicted later today.

108 this morning.  Well, we did get just a bit of rain last night, .02 inch so not much but then there was none predicted and it was enough to get the pavement wet.  Tomorrow we are supposed to have a real good chance of some significant rain here and the entire West coast is going to see a great deal of rain and snow.  Some areas are going to see more flooding and in the Central Valley a levee broke and it caused serious flooding and they are going to get more.  There are always some serious problems in some areas with a lot of rain but overall we need as much as we can get.

85 this morning.  There is a big storm heading to the West Coast and it is supposed to bring a lot of rain to all of the Western USA with snow in the mountains.  As usual there will be flooding in some areas along with mud slides so there is a lot of activity in many areas to try to prevent damage.  Here we are predicted to get from 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain but that will remain to be seen.  Right now it has started on the coast but here it will probably be later today or tonight.

That may not be such a bad thing as you usually look forward to some rain in your area. Barbara should be back and posting soon.

106 this morning.  Well, the big storm kind of skirted this area and we only got .01 inches of rain overnight but Northern California and along the coast got the predicted big rain.  This storm is a warm front being followed by a cold front so snow levels high right now but will be lower later today.  I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't get more here but overall the State did get a lot of rain.
Hoping to hear from Barbara soon.

Oh boy! This was really an adventure (and not in the good way) with blood sugar.

My bg was excellent while I was in hospital (Intensive care and then a room). They took my bg 4Xa day all good numbers. When I was transferred to the care facility (someone at the Hospital called it Assisted Living and they do have permanent residents, but not in the wing I was in. My wing was healthcare and rehab.

The food was terrible and I lost 8 lbs while there. When we were meal planning they kept trying to push sandwiches on me. I told them I stay away from bread and a lot of carbs as I was diabetic. Two different Nutritionists told me I was cured, that T2 diabetics are cured when they get their weight down to normal. They said "science" has said you don't need to test or avoid carbs ~shk~ once you are low enough, whatever that is..., and I guess I am low enough because they never once tested me once there! I tried several times to tell them diabetes is not curable you can just control it. Stone wall...I finally gave up and just selected the foods I knew would not be a problem for my numbers.

I didn't test today, but will get back to it tomorrow.

One good thing happened, I was tested at least 6 times for Covid and was negative each time. They had a huge amount of cases at the facility, but they kept us well separated. I am sooooo glad to be home!!!

Well, maybe you are Covid resistant  ;D

IMO, The funny thing is that the White Coats know all that you were trying to tell them. They just pretend that they know better. I have stopped trying to make them change their minds. It hurts, when you bang your head against the stone wall.

96 this morning.  Well, after I posted yesterday about 9:00AM we got the rain I expected overnight and we got 1/4 inch which is food for here.  It came down pretty good for a bit and there was water running down the street, something we don't see often.  Other areas in California got a lot of rain and the flooding and mud slides in the burned areas had their usual damage and there were roads severely damaged. High surf caused significant damaged along the coast also.  It's bright and sunny now and the next storm is supposed to arrive Monday.
My last stay in the hospital when I reminded them I was diabetic they said that's OK we will just give you insulin if your bg is high and that was just what they did.  The food was awful so I ate very little but they tested at random times with no reason and once or twice if they thought it was too high they did give me a dose of insulin.  It wasn't a very good experience but only lasted for a few days.  When I broke my hip I was surprised that the lady that was in charge of the food came by and agreed to see that I was given a low carb diet and that was only for 4 days and then I was transferred to a skilled nursing facility for rehab and I was not eating anything that was high in carbs so a lot of the food was uneaten. The dietician came by and I explained that I was diabetic and avoided carbs to control my bg and she agreed and to my surprise she agreed and made my diet high protein and low carb.  I think this is rare for this kind of facility.  I was there for two weeks and this made it a lot easier to live with.
Really glad you are back Barbara, we did miss you a lot and really glad you are doing well.  It has taken me a few months to recover from the last stay I had and I still have some problems but I have been improving a bit as time passes and I am grateful that I can drive and get around, still depending on using my walker but that is OK.

119 this cloudy morning. A little on the high side but, I feel I have been so deprived of decent food that I am doing more snacking than I would have done before I have to get back to my normal eating habit of not eating after 7PM. May take a few days...

I don't remember which thread it was in but skb said the kitties would/could fend for themselves when I was gone. Maybe, if it was any season except Winter when the ground is covered with snow and all the little critters have gone to ground. My neighbor/friend came over 2x a day and fed them and they were ravenous which tells me there wasn't much hunting available to them. I was very grateful for her help!

ETA: You were really lucky that most of the food people/nurses understood your nutritional needs and met them for you. I was classed as nutritionally at risk (not sure why) so they had me on a regular diet. Therefore most of the food they  gave me I sent back. Fat was non existent in their diet and when I was able to pick I always went lc/hf. So often the fat was extra butter for the oatmeal....

ETA: Just noticed I said L10 vertebrae it was T10 I fractured. Oops sorry for the mis-information.

That is the logic they follow. But I generally find that the newer and younger lot is more receptive to the idea of LC if not HF, and they completely stay away from the faster ones like Sugar.

104 this morning.  The rain and wind is gone and it's a bright sunny day today.  There is a chance for a light rain along the coast but not here.  Our next chance of rain is Monday and Tuesday so we may see some more then.
My back problem is in the lumbar vertebrae due to the discs compressing with age and wear the vertebrae have slipped a bit and put pressure on the sciatic nerve.  There is also some calcium buildup in the channel that also complicates it.  I have finally gotten an appointment with a spine specialist and he is suggesting that injections may help but I need more info before that.  I have another appointment with him in February.

107 this frosty, mostly cloudy morning.

34°was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/22°. As it stands today no snow in forecast for the next 10 days...of course that can change at the drop of a hat...

It is so good to be home, but I'm finding there are still adjustments to be made. I have lived alone over 26 years. All the time at rehab, with lots of people around and a roommate I chatted with a lot, I'm finding it kind of hard to adjust back to being alone. Like when I wake in the night and have to use the bathroom, I worry I will disturb others. It is the weirdest feeling, like there are still people around me... I suppose this too will pass in time...
