Quote from: bigskygal on January 07, 2023, 11:46:47 AMIt is so good to be home, but I'm finding there are still adjustments to be made. I have lived alone over 26 years. All the time at rehab, with lots of people around and a roommate I chatted with a lot, I'm finding it kind of hard to adjust back to being alone. Like when I wake in the night and have to use the bathroom, I worry I will disturb others. It is the weirdest feeling, like there are still people around me... I suppose this too will pass in time...
;D I guess it will. A quote that I have coined over the years is that "We are a sum product of our habits." And everything we do is a habit. Even not having a habit.

104 this morning.  Well, it just started to rain but I don't think it will last for too long.  Tomorrow and Tuesday they are predicting an 80% chance of rain but also winds of 20-25 MPH so it is not likely we will see rain here.  Other areas along the coast and in the North are going to see lots of rain and as the ground is now soaked there will be more flooding than last time.  The good news is that there will be lots of snow in the mountains and Mammoth Mountain is expecting 4 feet Monday and 2 feet Tuesday and that is a lot.  Farther North in the Sierras there will be even more snow.
I'm not sure what is a habit and what is a routine or if they are just different words for the same thing but I do have "routines" for things that help me handle every day tasks.  I may be over doing it sometimes but the routines help me make sure that necessary things are taken care of.

Snap Wally 104 here too this partly cloudy morning!

34° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/22°. A chance of snow showers today, tonight and tomorrow, all below 50%.

My neighbor never replied to my call re getting me some cat food, le sigh. However, this morning before I got up, I thought of Ace. They advertise on TV that they deliver. I crossed my fingers as I called, hoping they carried cat kibble. After a discussion re amount of order, they finally agreed under my circumstances they would deliver what they could find. Yay! now safe until Chewy order arrives.

I agree Wally routine/habit may well be the same thing...there are things that must be done each day and others when the need arises (like doing laundry). What I was referring to was getting back to being used to being alone (in quiet). As anyone who has spent any amount of time in hospital/rehab knows, it is one of the nosiest places in the world!! You adjust to the noise, and when you come home to your quiet home it feels odd in some ways. Good in just about every other way.

103 this morning.  We are supposed to get a fair amount of rain today and tomorrow but so far it has only been a slight drizzle.  There is going to be significant rain in other areas and probably some flooding.
Yeah Barbara, I do understand what you feel coming home from the hospital and the big change it is.  The last time I was in the hospital I really did not like being there so it was a huge relief going home but I had my BIL there and could not have gotten by without his help.  It was a bigger change for you.

112 this mostly cloudy morning.

28° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 35°/24° with about 50% chance in the afternoon and evening.

I have never been in hospital/rehab for that long, the adjustment is getting better, but even last night I dreamed a nurse came in to check on me in the night which was so disconcerting I woke up and was confused for a moment...will be glad when this passes!

Yep that happens. I have noticed that dreams are made up of very relevant and recent going-ons. I think the entire concept of dream interpretation is a lot of mumbo-jumbo.

93 this morning.  Well we went all day with only a slight drizzle and it was enough to get the pavement wet but only .01 inch by evening then around 8:PM we started to get some real rain and ended up with 1/4 inch but over by 10:00PM.  In other areas of California a lot of rain and flooding.  It is raining right now, started a few minutes ago.  We don't get this kind of deluge often in California but we do get it on occasion and it seems strange that we are not really any good at dealing with it.
I had an appointment with my PCP yesterday for the Medicare Annual Health Care appointment and it was mostly the same thing but I did get some good information.  I don't remember if I mentioned it but a couple of months ago I had a stroke.  It didn't last very long and at the moment I didn't realize what was going on.  MY BIL had asked me a question and I tried to answer him and I couldn't form words and was trying to stand up and could not get out of my chair. I was not sure what was happening and was frustrated that I could not do what I was trying and then , it only lasted a couple of minutes, I got up and was just fine.  It was only afterwards that it dawned on me that it must have been a stroke.  I had an appointment in a couple of days with my cardiologist and told him about it and he said yes, it is caused by small blood clots that come from the heart and the tachycardia that I have will cause it.  He started me on a prescription for a drug called Eliquis that is targeted for just that type of blood clots.  Well, my ENT wants to do a follow up biopsy of the node on my thyroid even though the one I had came out negative she said she would feel better doing another just to be sure.  I have no problem with that, it is a pretty easy procedure but I mentioned it to my PCP and that they want you to stop any blood thinner about 3 days before the procedure.  My PCP said under no circumstances!  She can do the procedure without me stopping the blood thinner or not do it but it is not worth risking a stroke.  I am glad I asked her.

109 this mostly foggy, cloudy morning.

33° was the high yesterday, just a dusting of snow late afternoon then again overnight, today's forecast is 35°/21. No snow in forecast until Saturday and that is just a chance of showers.

(Interrupted posting by a long phone call from my son. It was nice to talk to him, we chit chatted over 45 minutes until he needed to get back to work.)

Wally, the flooding sounds terrible, son said a kindergarten aged boy was washed away and they haven't found any remains yet, so sad. Son lives in Redwood City and they have some flooding there but not terrible.

My walker arrived today. I am not even going to try to assemble it as I don't want to mess up something and have it not work properly. My grab bars come tomorrow so I will be all set when the home health and OT people come to set things up.

Yeah it's probably better to let them assemble the walker.  They are not too hard to put together but when I broke my hip the hospital provided a walker to me and charged it to Medicare so I could take one with me and it was new and the nurse I had put it together but it was wrong and although it worked, kind of, I had to redo it when I got home.  Not a big deal and it would not have really caused a major problem but it worked better when put together right.
I heard about the young boy, pretty sad.  Many areas are seeing significant flooding and debris causing damage and as usual some people ignoring warnings and trying to go where they should avoid and getting in trouble.

That's really sad. I wonder how much rain would have come down to cause all that devastation. It reminds me of a cloud burst and deluge Mumbai had in 2005. It had all started around 3 or 4 pm and was over by 10 pm. The city had received 37 inches of rain in that time. I don't remember how many died and how many lost their homes, but it was too many.

109 this morning.  Well, after I posted yesterday we started to get some significant rain, for here, and ended up with over 3/4 inch for the day which may not seem like much but for this dry desert it is pretty good.
Yeah SKB, for California and especially Southern California we are not as good at dealing with large storms it seems, especially due to burn areas from wild fires that leave the ground subject to mud and debris flows.  It only takes around 3-4 inches of rain to cause major problems.

115 this cloudy morning.

33° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/23° no snow or rain. Unfortunately  the next snow is predicted for the day I have to go to my pcp for the Medicare after care checkup...

Well the rain in CA has had repercussions for me here in MT. My Chewy order is sitting in Sacramento due to a "Shipment exception" in this case weather. Glad I got the food from Ace over the weekend. Who knows when my order will come??? I know that is nowhere near as bad as what people are going through there more just an annoyance for me. My kitties might have a different thought about it...but   ~owl~

102 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 53° and it was dry all day.  Our next chance of rain looks to be Saturday so we will see how that goes.  Barbara, Northern California was still getting a lot of rain yesterday but it looks like today it will be dry.  I don't know how your shipment is going but if it hasn't made it out yet maybe today it can.  Tomorrow and the weekend Northern California is looking at another drenching.  The biggest problem is flooding.

111 this mostly cloudy morning.

32° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 40°/27°. It would be really nice to see 40°!!

My Chewy boxes escaped Sacramento around noon yesterday, made it to Idaho and now they are in Billings, MT which is on the other side of the state from me. They are still showing in tracking that they will arrive today by "end of day", not sure that will happen. Not much I can do about it, it is just frustrating.

***ETA: Now my  Chewy boxes are vacationing in Billings MT! Sheesh! Now they are supposedly arriving tomorrow. This has been the weirdest shipment from them so far!***

My grab bars are Out for Delivery and the OT people are coming next Tuesday so soon I will be all set device-wise. Maybe things will be back to normal....soon.

***Grab bars arrived today, they are a little shorter than I expected but should work fine. ***
