Quote from: bigskygal on January 17, 2023, 11:40:14 AMOT interviewer coming this afternoon. She is going to assemble my walker and replace light bulb in hall light. Plus as she said a whole bunch of questions to assess my needs and current abilities...
Good Luck with that.

Yeah, the only thing she did was assemble my walker. Wouldn't replace bulb as afraid of liability if she broke something.

She wanted to ask me a questioner that would. take 2 hours to complete. It was to qualify for physical therapy, social worker, speech therapist, therapy, etc, etc... none of which I need, and I told them so. At rehab they said these people would give me contacts for people that can install the grab bars. Nope, I have to find someone myself. Hopefully my neighbor the welder can recommend someone. They were gone in about 1/2 hour since I declined all the "services" I didn't have to fill out the form.

At least I got the walker assembled...

101 this partly cloudy morning. Guess some of my erratic numbers of late were due to old strips. This reading is the new vial...

40° was high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/22° and dry.

Pcp appointment early this afternoon, my friend is taking me. I don't expect any release from the back protocols here not until the end of the month with other dr. So kind of wonder what pcp is going to do.

Feeling pretty good, stronger each day. Appetite still fluctuates a bit but eating more than before... Odd thing for a woman to say, but I hope I have gained some weight back.

84 this morning. I decided that I need to cut back a bit more on carbs for a while.  I kind of let my total climb and my numbers have naturally been higher but I have also gained more weight than I feel comfortable with.  I think that the fact that I relaxed my carb intake and that I can't any longer do much exercise have added to my gaining weight so now is a good time to start watching what I am taking in.  Todays fasting number is an example of what I can do if I keep my goal in mind.
It looks like we will have daytime highs in the mid 50s for the next few days but overnight lows below freezing.  No moisture though so no snow.
Well Barbara at least you got the walker put together.  I am lucky that I live with my BIL and he is a plumbing contractor and has all of the tools needed to do just about anything so installing grab bars was no big deal.  Right now there is no way I would get up on a chair to change a light bulb.  I never had to deal with an interview like you did to get PT approved but that was the only thing involved and it was ordered by the doctor treating my sciatica so it is something that Medicare actually requires before approving and other treatment like surgery.  They are hoping for the cheapest way.  Six weeks of PT isn't cheap but surgery, which I am not going to have, would cost a lot more.  I hope you can find someone to install the grab bars, I use them all the time, especially in the bath room.

Yeah Wally a 2 hour series of questions just to get PT approved is something I have never heard of before! I've had PT in CA with nothing like that.

No way I am getting up on a chair either, I had ordered some salt lamp night lights...but unfortunately the outlet in my bathroom doesn't seem to work... I put it in the bedroom next to the bathroom and it gives enough light to get there and turn on the bathroom light. That will have to work for now, at least the hall is not pitch black any more. The electrical here is kind of wonky, but not calling an electrician at this point. If my other neighbor calls me back with some recommendations I'll see if he can come and change the bulb. Or when he comes Monday to collect my garbage ask him then.

Well, that is really good news on both counts, the weight as well as the strength. In fact they are complementary if you are adding muscle. As you grow older a little weight is always welcome. Not much, just a bit.

87 this morning.  Our weather here is pretty much the same each day for the rest of January.  Daytime highs in the mid 50s and overnight lows around 26°-28° and mostly sunny.  We need the rain and snow but some areas got hit pretty hard and can use some drying out.
Glad you are doing better Barbara and it looks like you are doing even better than before you fell.  I may be wrong but I believe the questions were to see if you qualify for home assistance which is a lot more than just PT.  My FIL had it approved when he needed assistance for things he could no longer do for himself and someone came to his house to help him take care those things.  OTOH, when I had PT for the sciatica  I was able to drive to their location, only about 2 miles away, and didn't need anyone to come to my home.
On the weight issue I had decided that it would be OK for me to add a few pounds and let my diet allow that.  I normally wear sweat pants around the house for comfort and they are quite forgiving with the elastic band around the waist.  The other day I had a dentist appointment and when I tried to put my jeans on I could not fasten them!  OH OH, time to look in the mirror and yup, I went past what is "a little more" weight so time to cut back on some carbs.  My bg has also been running higher so it is really not a surprise.

115 this cloudy morning.

I missed the exact high here yesterday, but think it was somewhere around 36°. Today's forecast is 34°/21°, small chance of snow flurries in the morning.

Kind of felt pcp appointment was kind of a waste of time yesterday, except I found I have gained back 5#. He took some blood to check my platelets which apparently were low. Otherwise, just went over what I had been through and he recommended I see a Gastro...I already do and he should know that from my chart...oh well, it was a Medicare required appointment so what cold I do?

#1312
I just realized that I have not made a new thread Fasting BG 2023 and that we are continuing to post in Fasting BG 2022. Well, up until 2021 the Fasting thread had around 1700-2000 posts each year. This time around we have about 1300 posts for 2022 + 20 days of January. So what I am going to do is continue with this thread and just rename it as "Fasting BG" and remove the year from the title.

I have changed the title to Fasting BG but the Right Panel continues to show the 2022. Maybe it will change on it's own after a few days of usage.

81 this morning.  I really just had to cut back a bit on my carbs and my fasting number has improved a lot for the last couple of days.  I am pretty sure that I will be able to loose a few pounds and get back to a better weight.  I am also going to try to do a bit more exercise if I can and increase my walking.  Kind of funny to be trying to walk more when I depend on a walker but that's me "walking with a walker Wally"

114 this partly cloudy morning.

39° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 34°/16°.

Wally see my comment in the Exercise thread. I had an interesting experience with the walker and step counts.

The handyman my neighbor recommended is coming Saturday to install the grab bars, switch shower heads and replace light bulb in hall. I have a couple other things that need to be done but I will wait to see how he does on these jobs first. The other things can wait until Spring/Summer anyway.

102 this morning.  Weather here is going to be pretty much the same for the rest of the month.  We may see some rain coming to California at the start of February but that is still too far out to be reliable.  Hope it does come though, we got a lot of rain but still need more to really help to get out of the drought.
I did see your comment Barbara and I don't really have an explanation but I don't know where you carry your phone.  My biggest problem with using the walker and counting steps is trying to use the Apple watch or the Fitbit that goes on your wrist as you are not moving your wrist and it doesn't work in that situation.  Using the phone in my front pocket it doesn't care if my arm is not moving, it is counting the steps just fine and so that is how I am doing it now.
Hope your handyman gets the things you need done.  I am lucky that my BIL is quite capable to take care of anything like that, he is a plumbing contractor but can also do framing and electrical and he and his brother have built new homes from the ground up so no need to hire anyone.

110 this mostly sunny morning.

39° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 33°/20° still really cold at night.  No rain or snow in forecast until next weekend and that is so far away who knows??

I carry my phone in my vest or pant pocket so I don't know why the difference in counts between using walker or not. Maybe just a fluke???

I hope this handyman works out as I have other things that need doing that I just can't do myself...

95 this morning.  We got to the expected 56° yesterday and also the expected 28° overnight low.  It is a bit cold in the morning but warms up in the afternoon and is nice outside.
Yeah Barbara, I don't know why there is a difference either.  It may have something to do with what app you are using but I think they all use the same counter from your phone.  I didn't remember what app we were using before so I just grabbed one from the app store and it seems to work.  It does keep a pretty good count when using a walker so I am happy with it.
Yeah, I hope the handyman works out for you.  It would really be a big help.

115 this mostly cloudy morning.

High yesterday was about 34°, missed it as I was talking to handyman (and keeping an eye on him). Today's forecast is 34°/17° with a chance of some snow flurries in the morning.

The handyman is a gem!! He spent hours here, switched shower heads replaced light bulb and installed grab bars. He also took 2 loads of the accumulated boxes piled up in my office to dump!! I was kind of afraid of how much it was all going to cost but things had to be done... I about fell over when I asked how much I owed him and he said $88.00!!! He did an excellent job and will have him back in the Spring to do some other things that need fixing. My neighbor has never failed me yet with his recommendations!!
