He also took 2 loads of the accumulated boxes piled up in my office to dump!! I was kind of afraid of how much it was all going to cost but things had to be done... I about fell over when I asked how much I owed him and he said $88.00!!! He did an excellent job and will have him back in the Spring to do some other things that need fixing. My neighbor has never failed me yet with his recommendations!!
Good for you. JFYI that would cost something like 10-15% of the amount you paid, and I am talking about an expensive big city like Mumbai. In smaller towns and rural areas, maybe nothing, but a free lunch at home.

Well, around here $88 is really cheap for the time he spent here. It was really hard work for him to drill through the tile work in the shower to install the grab bars. I don't feel cheated at all!

106 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 57° and it is supposed to get to 58° today.  Overnight low was a surprising 38°, we were expecting it to be below freezing.  Sunny and no wind right now but it could get windy later.
Yeah you are right Barbara, the price you were charged is not bad at all.  It can vary a lot with someone that is a "handy man".  There is a fine line between a "handy man" and a licensed contractor nowadays.  For small jobs like you had a handy man is perfect but some "handy men" try to take on jobs that really require a license and insurance.  It can be really tough for someone without a license nowadays to avoid doing jobs that they are not supposed to be doing, at least in California.  Other states have different laws and may not be nearly as strict.

108 this partly cloudy morning.

38° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 28°/20°...still Winter here that is for sure!

I don't in any way begrudge paying $88 for the work he did. He spent a good 5 hours here, he had real problems drilling through the shower tiles. The things he did were things I can't do right now or in some cases never could. And he even hauled off 2 loads of boxes that have been accumulating in my office. I have some other small jobs I'll have him fix in the Spring.

I didn't say that. I was just giving you a comparison. We have cheap labour because we have a very large population, among other reasons.

112 this mostly cloudy morning.

31° was the high yesterday, today's forecast (depending on which sit I look at) is either 36°/16° or 35°/23°. I vote for the second!!

That makes sense skb. With the population you have, there are probably many choices for handyman jobs and that they would vie for the job with lower prices. Not so here unfortunately. Montana's total population statewide is 1,222,867. Many CA cities individually have many more people. There is not that much of a pool to choose from here especially if you want some one good and has stellar recommendations. I am so lucky my neighbor has vast connections to various contractors and knows the good ones!

One more week before I see the dr that may release me from the brace and maybe back protocols. Even if it just the brace, I will be happy!!

There would be more people than that just in my suburb. We're now 1.4 billion and counting. Surpassed China a few days ago. Mumbai has a population of more than 20 million, where New Zealand is about 5 million.

82 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 59° and should be 60° today and then 62° each day through the week end.  Not too exciting and no rain in sight but there is a small chance of a few showers on the coast Monday.  The mountains are expecting a foot of snow over the weekend.
Californias population is 39 million but it is a big state. Out here in the desert it is not near as populated.  This county has a population of 905,644 but it is a large county and kind of weird.  The largest population in the Eastern half that lies to the West of the Sierra mountain range that divides the county in half and on the Eastern half where I live it is more remote and more lightly populated.  The town I live in has a population of around 30,000 and is the largest on this side of the mountains and exist because of the Naval Air station that is here and employes a majority of the population here.
I had the covid test yesterday and it isn't fun but not too bad.  They do push the swab a long way up your nostril and I expected that but still didn't like it. As expected I don't have covid!
Since I have the biopsy procedure tomorrow morning I won't be posting until later in the day.  The hospital where I have to go is about an hour and a half drive and I need to leave here around 6:00AM.

121 this snow showery morning.

33° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/26° with snow showers in the morning.

I had 6-7 Covid tests while in hospital & rehab. They had a new one that they just twirl a few times in the lower nostril...doesn't go "up to your brain" like the older ones. Much more comfortable!! I too tested negative every time, thank goodness.

Hope all goes well with the biopsy Wally.

114 this cloudy morning.

39° was the high yesterday. Today's forecast is 45°/37° with on and off rain/snow showers all day and evening. Looks like it might not clear until Sunday. As long as it is clear Tuesday for my dr appointment, I can deal...

102 this morning.  Well, back from my trip.  It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive and then I had to check in and go through the pre-op process just like you were having surgery, sheese!  The biopsy only took about 20 min. and then I was able to leave right after.  Kind of a long day as I had to get up at 4:30AM to shower and shave then leave.  I have a phone appointment to get the results on 2/6 so will know then.  Right now just glad to be back home.

Well, except for the early morning, looks like everything went smoothly. Hope the results are also good.

109 this morning.  A bit more carbs than I needed last night but oh well.  My neck is just a bit sore this morning but not much after having a needle stuck in it 4 times yesterday.  Other than that no problem from it.  One thing I thought I would mention is about being told to stop any blood thinner, even aspirin, before any procedure where you may bleed.  I have been told this many times before and never was told to check with the prescriber first.  Most of the times it was for Mohs surgery for skin cancer and it was only aspirin that I took because of the heart valve.  This time it was the Eliquis I am taking for stroke and I did ask my PCP about stopping it and she said under no circumstances! It isn't worth the chance of a stroke and to let the doctor know and if she is OK without stopping it fine otherwise get back to her.  It turned out that the doctor doing the biopsy was OK with it and a few needle pokes are not a big deal but it is still wrong for the staff to tell people to stop a drug without advising you to check first with the prescriber.  My BIL was told by the heart doctor that installed the stent after his heart attack that under no circumstance should he stop the blood thinner he was prescribed and that dentist were the worse!

41° was the high yesterday. Today's forecast is 39°/22° with rain/snow showers during the day and snow overnight.

Interesting Wally, about the drs telling people to stop meds and that could hurt them. Glad you got good advice! Hope you heal quickly and get a good report back on the biopsy.
