105 this hazy morning. Doesn't seem like the steroid shots are messing with my bg as much this time.

There are a couple fires in the mountains that are going to send some smoke this way. Physically they aren't close to me thank goodness and no structures threatened. There is another fire, fortunately far from me where structures are threatened...and this is just the beginning of the fire season!!

Yesterday's high here was 89°, today's forecast is 99°/62°. I'll wait to see what it really is at the end of the day. Some clouds and the haze may keep it down.

Here's irony for ya! I ordered a bunch of things from Amazon hoping to beat the impending UPS strike (thinking they would be coming UPS) and turns out they are all coming Thursday via USPS!! The other irony is I selected the less boxes method of delivery and at this point I have 4 different boxes coming! Don't think I'll bother with that shipping option again. One good thing is she will have to bring them to my door as all that won't fit in my box.

106 this morning.  We got to 113° yesterday and it is supposed to be 111° today and cooling just a bit and next week we will be between 105-110° which is pretty normal for here in July.
Yeah there is a bit of work setting up a weather station like the one I have and then you need to be able to take it down at least once a year to replace the batteries in it.  Mine is designed so it will swing down for that but it is a two man job.
I use the "Amazon day" option a lot and sometimes everything is in one box and sometimes not.  The good thing is that it is not hard for them to leave anything on my porch.  Sometimes things come on the designated "Amazon day" and sometimes the day before.  There is no consistency at all.
Another person found dead in Death Valley the other day.  So far that is three that I know of so far this Summer.  This was a 71 year old man that was from Southern California and claimed to be used to hiking in the heat.  He was interviewed that morning by a reporter and told how much he enjoyed the heat and how he was used to it.  It just goes to show that it is not something to mess with.  For years I worked outdoors here in the desert and in the Summer in the extreme heat but we took measures to keep cool as much as we could and didn't keep out in the heat for too long at a time.

Wow, you'd think that poor man would have had the experience to know better! Sad...

Wally, I was just reading a snippet of a NY Times article that said Lake Tulare had just reappeared? This is the first I have heard of this...is it old news or wishful thinking or what? Do you have any info about this? Sounds like a godsend for the farmers if true.

I have given up on the weather station idea for now. Don't need something else that is not necessarily dependable to predict the weather...

Yeah Lake Tulare has "reappeared" but it is apparently not a benefit for farmers in the region as it has flooded the fields that were there before and the crops that were growing have died.  Planting and growing crops on the dried up lakebed was great until the lake filled up from the big snow melt.
Yeah the guy that died thought he knew all he needed to know about hiking in the heat but it just goes to show that it is more dangerous than people realize.  it is common for people from other countries to go out hiking in the heat and dying because they are ignorant of the danger  but this guy should have known better.
The thing about the personal weather station is that it will tell you what has happened or what it is now but they are not very good at predicting future weather.  Pressure is kind of an indicator but I think that looking out the window is better! `8)

111 this partly cloudy morning. I don't like sitting up here in the 100's but it is what it is...the steroids don't help the bg...

Well, again the "forecasts" are much higher.Yesterday's high here was 89° where forecasts said it would be 99°. Smoke and light cloud cover helped keep it down I think. Today's forecast is 97°/58° with smoke and partly cloudy even possibly some thunderstorms to the south of here. Serious fire danger if dry lightening hits.

Sticking close to home as much as possible. Today is garbage to the road and that is about all. May go to grocery store on Wed...maybe... I do need to go to the clinic as they somehow "misplaced" my urine sample and I need to leave another. I'm not rushing, it was their fault and I'm going at my convenience.

106 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 107° and that looks like what it will be for every day this week.
Death Valley isn't the only place it is dangerous because of high heat.  Two women were found dead in a Park in Nevada north of Las Vegas where the temps were around 114°.  I guess people don't pay any attention to the news.
Here we are surrounded by mountains so when there is any cloud cover overnight, it puts a lid over this area and it is a lot hotter in the morning.  It will help during the day though.

106 this slightly drizzly morning. (Drizzle was only for about 1/2 hour.)

Yesterday's high was 89°, bearable inside for the most part. Today's forecast is 87°/55° a slight cooling trend for the next few days. It never did get to the 100° predicted thank goodness.

Several fires burning but fortunately at this point nothing very close to me. It is just frightening to see the video of them on the news. Been through enough of them when I lived in CA. Also the garage that burned down across the road is imprinted in my brain...very scary. So far fires have been caused by dry lightening, not human stupidity...yet!

103 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 107° and that looks like what it will be for the next few days.  There have been several fires in Southern California but fortunately they have been contained.  So far we haven't seen the really big devastating fires but there is still a lot of time left in the fire season.

And it has been raining very hard throughout the country for the past couple of weeks. I wish that somehow weather was exchangeable and we could send some rain over to douse the fires. That would be something.  :D

That would really be wonderful if only it could happen! Canada especially has been badly hit and now CA and MT are entering our fire seasons. It looks to be a bad year for us too. Sadly.

112 this sunny morning. Still on the high side...

82° was the high yesterday, light cloud cover and smoke in the air helped keep it cooler. Cooling trend with some possible light showers end of this week. Yay! Today's forecast is 87°/52° but I seem to run cooler than all the forecasts, a good thing too!! The nights have been nicely cool and I can open the house and cool it down for the next day.

My new cane should arrive tomorrow, looking forward to learning to use/trust it to help keep me from falling.

105 yesterday.  We had a high of 108° yesterday and that looks like we will be at that same high for the next few days.  With the prediction of an El Niño next Winter we should see higher than normal rain however that is still pretty far out to predict.
I hope you find the cane helpful.  I like it and it can be used in place of the walker a lot of the time.

It's been raining pretty hard here all through the past 2 weeks and yet our lakes are just about 55% full, except one, that has started to overflow.

Wow! All that rain and still low water levels!

They just declared the county I live in, in a drought! I have a leaking frost free pump in the front yard that I have been trying to get fixed for a long time, no one is returning my calls. It is split and water is just leaking out from my well. Such a waste of water! I finally found someone today to come and fix it (my well guy) I called him he responded in 2 hours and will be here next week or the week after to fix it. Finally!!

I don't know why I didn't think of him sooner!
