Quote from: bigskygal on July 30, 2023, 12:30:59 AMWhoa, something weird just happened! When I typed "mosquito. It" without the space after the period it shut down the site! Opened another window and corrected it and original page came back besides the new one I opened. What the heck was that???

eta It was underlined with blue dots and I click on it that is when site went down.

When you type something and put a period which is not followed by a space, the s/w thinks it is a website you are referring to. And since your next word was "It" the s/w assumed that you were pointing to an 'it' site (Information Technology). When clicked it would start searching for an IT site called "mosquito dot it". I suppose your browser went wild searching for it.  ;D  ;D

I see that you have now edited and corrected your post.

102 this mostly sunny morning. Slept an hour later than normal...kitties not very happy with me!

Thanks for the explanation skb! I guess I was smarter than my browser this one time by fixing error!! Yeah right! LOL!

89° was the high yesterday despite the forecast. I think I. must live in a magical place...of course it works opposite in the Winter...colder! But I will take that over too hot! Today's forecast is 95°/55ª. A couple more hot days then cooling and possible rain.

Snap Barbara, 102 for me this morning also.  We had a high of 109° yesterday and it is supposed to be the same today then cooling down a bit next week, still around 100° but nice for here in August.
I know you don't like the heat Barbara, if it were me I would have some kind of cooler even if I only used it once in a while.

101 this sunny morning.

Yesterday's high was 88° which was tolerable. Today's forecast is 97°/57° with smoke from nearby fires (nothing close to me). Cooling mid week with maybe some showers.

Taking it easy today, garbage to top of road is about it. Was going to go to grocery store but will wait until tomorrow as I will have to go up to road to pick up an Amazon package from mailbox. So today is going to be quiet.

85 this morning.  I always have a good number when I have salad for dinner.  We got to 109° yesterday and it is going to be about the same today then cooling down a bit tomorrow and we will be about 101-102° for the rest of the week.  It may not look like it but that is a noticeable difference especially in the morning.
The only thing I have to go out for this week in labs for my doctors appointment next week.

113 this sunny morning. Kind of high but knee is killing me and I think the pain is a factor in the bg #.

86° was the high here yesterday. Today's forecast is 95°/56° with some smoke from local fires. Pretty sure I won't get that high, but at least a cooling trend is coming end of the week which might even bring some showers. Now that I like just fine!

My arm is almost back to normal, the swelling is almost gone and the angry redness is fading. Still aches/itches slightly but much better. I wonder what kind of mosquito it was or if it even was one??? The baby bug spray I ordered doesn't come until Monday.

87 this morning.  We got to 104° yesterday so a bit cooler and it is supposed to be 101° today with even the chance of scattered thunderstorms but that is a small chance.  There is a fire in the Mojave Preserve that has consumed  over 70,000 acres and the sad thing is that it has destroyed large numbers of Joshua Trees which the preserve is there to protect.  They are often over 100 years old and are very slow growing,  It is East of where I am in the Mojave Desert and is heading to Nevada.  It doesn't look like it will be contained soon.
Glad your bite is getting better Barbara.  I know there are some things sold that are to help with bug bites and relieve the itch and pain but I don't know what they are right now.

I got the most relief from the witch hazel wipes and straight witch hazel. Next best was Arnica cream that I have for bruises. Hopefully the spray skb shared will keep the buggers from biting in the first place. Being designed for babies, I am hoping it is mild enough not to cause a reaction itself, which I have had from deet sprays.

That is sad news and 70,000 acres is a big area. I wonder how many of those trees will be destroyed.

I have been visiting Indian forests for a long time now, and have had some association with the Forest department as well. From administrative and management point of view, the entire forest is divided in a grid system and some of the grid lines are what are known as "fire lines". What they do is, they (years ago) have cleared some 20 mtr wide channel of all the trees and vegetation. This is done to stop the spread of fire from one section to another. Another feature of these lines, is that they dig trenches through them and these can be pumped with water in case of a fire. I have seen a few forest fires but all of them have been well contained. Well but then the Indian climatic conditions are very different from those in the US. We do not have that kind of dryness here.

Thanks for sharing...different climate, different types of fires I guess. I wonder if something like that would work here? The problem would be the labor to do it and keep it maintained.  Especially in the higher mountainous areas.

85 this morning.  We had a cooler high yesterday of 100° and it is supposed to be the same today.  It is still hot at 100° but noticeably cooler than when it is 110° so better.
They have done the same thing here in forests with fire lines but because of the dryness and with high winds the fires usually jump them and continue.  The biggest problem is that high winds are usually present and the cinders can fly for a very long distance and start more burning. The fire in the Mojave preserve is now at 80,000 acres and into Nevada also.  There was a short period of rain that helped and they are stating that there is a 25% containment.

125 this partly cloudy morning. Didn't sleep well, knee was very sore even with Advil.

88° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 96°/59° and hazy. Last night's full moon was a giant bright orange pumpkin! I think that is the only beautiful thing about the fires around me, or any fires for that matter. It is supposed to cool down in the nest couple of days, they pushed it back to Thursday now instead of today, but the possible rain here is good.

I sure hope the Joshua trees can survive the fires there Wally. It is such a shame to see them destroyed like this. How was the fire started? Was it lightening?

Yeah there are two "super" full moons this month.
There is no determination of how the fire started but it is believed that it was on private property and went into the preserve.  Right now they don't have any idea how many Joshua trees have been destroyed but is will be quite a few.  In Nevada where the fire went there is the biggest Joshua tree in the world that was threatened but it was apparently saved.
