Thank goodness for that at least!!

Quote from: walkerwally1 on August 02, 2023, 10:40:03 AMThey have done the same thing here in forests with fire lines but because of the dryness and with high winds the fires usually jump them and continue.  The biggest problem is that high winds are usually present and the cinders can fly for a very long distance and start more burning.
That, I could figure. Let's hope the damage to the trees is minimum and they can be revived.

It has been a bit of a dry spell here for the past couple of days, after literally, raining cats and dogs.

108 this mostly sunny day, well with smoke too...

88° was the high yesterday. There were about 10 raindrops yesterday. They have pushed the cooling/possible rain to Friday now. Today's forecast is 94°/56° with some clouds and smoke.

A whole family of kitties found a way around the fence between my neighbor's (owner of OG cat that started my colony) yard and mine. A mama and 4 kittens went frolicking in his tall grass and hunting mice. They came racing home when he started up one of his big tractors. I know they "adventure" but I don't want them out on the road, cars whiz by soooo fast. I don't want to find dead kitties on the road when I go out..... :(

101 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 101°, hey same as my fasting # today, and it is supposed to be 100° today then we will start to warm up a bit and be around 105-108° over the weekend.  This is pretty nice for August here.
Yeah Barbara, I would hate to see kitties run over on the road also.
The fire in the Mojave Preserve is still continuing but they have made progress and some rain has helped.  Sadly the trees and Joshuas in this area take many years to come back.  It could be over 100 years for it to come back to where it was before.  That is one of the big problems with a fire here as it is so fragile and the other danger is to the Desert tortoise which is endangered.

Why is it said that a cat has 9 lives ? Because their instincts and responses are highly developed. Even a small kitty will know how to evade a life threatening object. Though, I have seen cats being hit by cars (including mine) but that is very very rare and mostly happens when the cat is unwell.

They stick pretty close to home mostly. I've just recently seen them next door. There is another field between my neighbor and the road so it isn't likely they will go that far...I hope so anyway.

124 this cloudy morning. Higher than I expected, no rhyme nor reason to why...just is what it is...

88° was the high yesterday. Again they pushed the cooler weather and chance of rain back a day to Friday now. It is cloudy/smokey this morning and I think it will be cooler. Forecast is 87°/60° so that is better, it will probably be cooler here which works for me.

I do hope the rain materializes as it will help put out the fires. There are so many fires burning right now a few very large, many smaller. I think the news said 150+ wildfires are burning right now, half man caused. That just makes me so mad that people can be so stupid/careless with fire safety during fire season.

99 this morning.  We had a high of 100° yesterday and it is supposed to get to 104° today and warmer on the weekend but still under 110°.
There have been se.  veral fires in our area also but the only one that is big is the one still burning in the Mojave Preserve but they are making progress on that one.  Yeah it is a shame that some people are so careless and stupid.  Nature starts enough fires so we don't need to have manmade fires on top of that but it always happens.
I had lab tests done the other day for my appointment with my Primary on Wednesday and mostly in the same areas as in the past but I was pleased with my A1c which was 4.8%.  I have been cutting back on carbs to try and lose some weight and expected it to be lower but this was better than I thought it would be and I have lost 14 pounds since I started.  I just need to keep it up.

That A1c is great Wally! I guess I need to stop worrying about putting weight back on and get back to cutting carbs again. This year was the first time I have been 6% in years! Do you get A1c 2x a year? My old pcp only did one. Maybe new one will do 2x. Is there some Medicare restriction to only do it once/yr that you know of? I'll ask new pcp when I see her next week.

My PCP has my A1c taken 2-3 times a year.  I think Medicare will pay for at least that but I don't remember for sure.  I am on a 4 month schedule to see my PCP and it is usually included in my lab results.
I just checked and Medicare will pay for an A1c every 3 months.

Thanks Wally! Another good reason for dropping my previous pcp! He said I only need A1c once a year and to see him only once a year for check ups! I hope the new one does better with that scheduling too. Added it to my list!

You could use a home test kit. I don't think it is too expensive.

It isn't the cost, I used to use those, but those dang needles are so big they really hurt! If Medicare will pay for 3, I'll see if my new pcp will do them. Their needles don't hurt.

104 this morning.  It got to 102° yesterday and it is supposed to be a bit warmer today and tomorrow but not much more.
Yeah Medicare will actually pay for 4 times a year if it is timed properly but their rule is that it has to be 3 months since our last time.  I tried the home test and didn't have much confidence in the result but since I see my PCP on a 4 month schedule it works out and my PCP always includes it in my labs.  She and my Cardiologist consider it important and want to see the results.
