With monitors it is mostly aimed at hard core gamers that have no qualms at spending what it takes to have "bigger and better" and be ahead of the rest. I can also see some, like video processors and other work related tasks and the fact that you can split the screen and have two different programs running at the same time can be a plus.  I have two monitors running at the same time and have my outdoor cameras and my weather station on one so I don't have a lot of room to criticize but it is better to me to be able to have them separate. My 32 inch is curved and that makes it easier to view the whole monitor at the same time sitting as close as I do at my desk.  For a laptop it makes sense to me to have a smaller screen because it is supposed to be portable and I find the 13 inch screen on my MacBook just fine and I can see all I need to get things done.  If it was my only device I would probably opt for a larger one.

Quote from: walkerwally1 on October 22, 2023, 10:48:01 AMWhen I got my 32 inch desktop monitor I thought it was really big and still do and I like it a lot but now they are advertising a 49 inch monitor and to me that is crazy!  I mean I pulled out my tape measure and that would take most of the width of my desk.  I wonder where it will go from here.
There's a select use case scenario for these monitors. They will be used in conference and board rooms. When I meet with my architect at his office, he does use a 32" monitor on his desk and a much larger one in his conference room. It is quite easy to look and amend plans on that size display.

129 this morning. It is too dark still to see the temp outside, but is warmer most sites say low 40's so I'll go with that for now.

Didn't catch yesterday's high here, too busy catching kittens, wrangled 2 more of the tiny "littles"!  ~ cat ~  Last I recorded was 58° at 4PM but one site says it was 71°. It was nice but doubt here it was more than mid 60's. Today's forecast is 60°/34° with some rain early. Snow definitely a possibility for Wed and maybe even Tues night. They say it could reach the valley floor too. Man, seems a bit too early!

In light of the coming weather, I am not going to go to town and instead try to catch more of the "littles" and get them off to new homes. The bigger kittens, just a few still needing fixing, can take care enough of themselves to get through this bit of weather. I am getting burned out...this has been a much longer project than I ever expected.

I do understand how the big computer screens can help in business situations and you see the huge ones on some crime TV shows, but for home use, to me, it seems kind of overkill. But then I am not a gamer or computer geek either. I do have in the back of my mind upgrading to the MacBookAir 15" but that is about it...

ETA: 8:10 AM went ouy yo feed hungry herd and it was 42° so earlier when I posted it was high 30's...

101 this morning.  We had a high of 84° yesterday and it is supposed to be 78° today so it is cooling down a bit. It is looking like we will be cooling down more but slowly.
Barbara I see it looks like you are going to see snow for a bit, hope it isn't too bad.
I do like my 32 inch monitor on my desktop but it is bit for as close as we are on the desk. I see instances where in a business environment a large monitor is necessary but for a home desktop 49 inches does seem like overkill.  I think what it comes down to is what works for you is the best.
Off in a bit to have my toe nails clipped.  I am glad that Medicare pays for the podiatrist.

Man! I keep forgetting to ask my pcp if I can get a referral to a podiatrist!! It is so hard for me to do a decent job on my toenails w/out little cuts! Thanks for reminding me!!

Yeah, it just got too hard for me to reach my toes comfortably and do a decent job and cuts were unavoidable.  The podiatrist I see is in the same clinic which is run by the hospital that my PCP is in and getting referred to him was no problem.  Hope you can get it and I think it is a real boon.  In addition to clipping my toenails he is inspecting my feet where I don't  have any problems but it is still good to be sure.

122 this dark cold morning. 30° outside right now.

Yesterday's high was about 61° with just a few periods of sun. Today's forecast is 50°/25° cloudy, with some showers in afternoon and snow starting overnight and through tomorrow. They say we will probably only get 1-3" here but could be a foot up in the mountain passes.

I had to take a mental health day from kitty catching yesterday. Today is going to be hard because the auto trap I have to use has to be plugged in to house power. With exposed extension cords outside I worry about the rain causing electrical problems. As much as the TNR lady wants me to keep going, I'm not sure it is safe for the trap. It is a one of a kind and if it gets fried, there is no other way to get the littles. I've gotten the tiniest ones and the others look to be able to fend for themselves with mamas and "aunties" around. May briefly try in the morning once it warms up a bit. Once it gets wet and snow is on the ground, it is waiting time for me. It is going to be cold the rest of the week, but the snow is supposed to be over by Thursday. It just depends on how long it takes to melt...

I really didn't realize the whole responsibility was going to fall on me. They pick up the ones I catch, fix them and bring them back, the catching is the hard part. At least they are fostering these very littles and they will get real homes...I just don't know how much longer I can do this...

109 this morning.  We had a high of 83° yesterday and it is supposed to be the same today and tomorrow then cooling down about 10° after that, No moisture here at all for the foreseeable future.
Yeah Barbara I would not want to have that device out in the rain or snow at all, It would be to dangerous and you are right it could damage it. Wow it sounds like you have taken on a huge job, hope you can finish it.

125 this snowy morning. It is still dark but I imagine it is below freezing. Bad leg cramps over night, not looking forward to shoveling snow!

Yesterday's high here was 50° rain started in evening. Today's forecast is 33°/19° snow early then showers throughout the day. Snow showers the next couple of days. Too early for my liking to have snow already!!

There is about 2" of snow that I can see on the deck. No sign of kitties but I hear some in the nook by the front door where one of the box shelters I made for them is located. Soon as it gets lighter I will start clearing the deck so I can feed them. Maybe the snow will keep some of the interlopers away...

Got the auto trap set up yesterday afternoon only to find it wasn't working...oh well, I tried.

85 this morning.  We had a high of 86° yesterday and it is supposed to be 82° today then it is going to be cooling down and we should be getting into the 70s.
Sometimes I get leg cramps at night, usually in the early morning, and it can be really painful but I get up and put my feet on the floor and it usually gets rid of them.
Well, I guess you have to deal with an early snow and I hope it is not long lasting.  Shoveling snow is something I used to have to do when on the mountain but not so much here.  With how I am now I couldn't even do it anymore.

Yeah, that is what I have to do with the leg cramps too. I get up and walk across the bedroom and go back to bed, or if needs be, a trip to the loo.  ~ cat ~

I am having a hard time with the shoveling too, mainly I just push it off the edge of the deck so I don't have to lift. I don't have to go anywhere for a while so no real shoveling on the ground.  If it does get really bad, sometimes my neighbor will come over and will plow the driveway.

ETA: One good thing is the snow did keep all the interloper cats away!

120 this cold morning.

Yesterday's high was 32° with light snow throughout the day. Today's forecast is 32°/20° with snow flurries in the morning then maybe some overnight. It will be cold for days though.

I ask myself why am I so worried this year and I realize I did't have tiny kittens last year going into Winter. Last year was brutally cold, days and days in the minus temps. I am going to be stressing until I see the littles that are left here are growing bigger.

22° when I went out to feed the kitties. The only good thing about the cold/snow is that all the interlopers did not show up, just my own cats were here yesterday. Today looks like a lot of them are back...darn.

TNR guy picked up the auto trap and will try to fix it. I asked about the battery instead of the electrical cords and he is going to try to find a resolution for that.

87 this morning.  We had a high of 83° yesterday and it is supposed to be cooling down with a high of 77° today and keep cooling down through the weekend but nothing like what you are seeing Barbara.   ~shvr~

I am still watching tutorials on using the cameras on my new phone and hope I can manage to get outside and take some decent photos to take advantage of it's features.  It is amazing to me that this little device can do a far better job than my DSLR camera that is much larger and heavier.

119 this really cold morning. Too dark to see temp right now, will check when it gets lighter.

Yesterday's high was all of 32° with periods of snow. Today's forecast is 32°/18° cloudy with snow flurries in the morning. It is predicted to be really cold today, tonight, and tomorrow morning then start to warm maybe up to the 50's for 4-5 days. Yay!

I am definitely feeling my age this Winter (is it even Winter yet??). I ache all over and am still rationing the Meloxicam, Advil doesn't help much. PCP never called me back re the rx, may call again today. Stressing about the small kitties too doesn't help.

Feeling kind of down that I can't do more to keep them warm. I have to get the tin shed cleaned and safe for them, but that is so much work I don't think I can do it alone. Colleen, my new friend from the TNR group is really into building things, hopefully I can get some help from her. Then I have to figure out how to get the 2 colonies to merge and go in it together. This is all beginning to be too much for me.

ETA:  20° when I started thr feeding process.
