125 this morning.

70° was the last temp I caughtyesterday, that was at 12:30pm it was so smoky it did keep the temp down and I know it wasn't the 90° Wunderground said was the high. Today's forecast is for even warmer weather, 90°/50° I'll watch the thermometer better today because given yesterday, I doubt it will get that high. Air is dense with smoke the sun was bright red when it rose and we are under a Fire. Weather Watch/Red Flag Warning. There is a chance of thunderstorms with high winds today and the humidity is very low. The fire here is shrouded in smoke as are we, so haven't seen what is going on there. Still 0% contained.

My neighbor across the dirt road came over and mowed my lawn for me. I gave him the Toro Weed Eater I never used as a thank you. He said he was going to come back today and do all the spots close to the house. Last time he said that but never did. It is fine with me, just glad for the mowing!

Don't have any plans other than gathering the garbage for tomorrow's pick up. Also sweeping the clippings off the decks...

108 this morning. Our high yesterday was 104° again and is supposed to be the same today and right about there for the next few days.  Our humidity is usually pretty low but right now it is 27% which is kind of high for here. The fires have been pretty well contained around here and no smoke problems so happy about that.
I got the results from the CT scan of my hand and apparently it didn't really show much that was useful and the recommendation was to have an MRI. Oh well, I will see what the doctor has to say. It is not something I am worried about but it would be nice to have it removed.

126 this morning.

75° was the high yesterday. Very smoky. Today's forecast is 85°/53° partly cloudy. Red Flag warning still in effect and now air quality is Hazardous! I haven't seen the mountains across the valley in 3 days now. The fire is now 2,399 acres, 0% containment. Another fire South of me a bit is up to 3,753 acres also 0% containment. Double whammy with the smoke from 2 sides. This is going to take a long time to get control of. Now today thunderstorms are in forecast for the evening. :(

This is a typical fire season situation, it just hasn't been this close to me in several years. And I don't like it....

87 this morning. Our high yesterday was 105° and it is supposed to be the same today then warming up for the rest of the week and may get to 110° by the end of the week. Hoping it may be the last run of hotter days.
Today is Labor Day in the USA and it is a national holiday that is usually a signal of the end of Summer and famous for outdoor BBQs so that is what we are doing.
Nothing else planned for today so probably just going to kick back and take it easy.
Sorry you are getting so much smoke where you are Barbara. Thai is hard to deal with. We can get quite smoky here sometimes but thankfully even though we have had fires nearby the smoke has not come down here so it has been pretty clear.

112 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 76° and smoky. Today's forecast is 78°/50°. Again smoky and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Laundry is on the agenda and whatever else pops up. I'm sure there will be more....

This has been the weirdest Summer weather-wise that I can remember. From cold and pouring rain for days, to blistering hot for several weeks back to rain and thunderstorms massive winds and lightening. And of course the usual fires thrown in. I just hope Winter isn't as crazy!

102 this morning. Our high yesterday was 104° and should be the same today. Weather wise we are having pretty much the same each day but it should be starting to cool down next week.
I slept in this morning. I usually wake up around 5:00 - 5:30 AM but slept in to 6:30 AM today.  I guess I needed a bit more sleep today but I do feel good so it is a good thing that I don't have to be anywhere.

119 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 69°, the smoke kept the temp down from yesterday's forecast. It did rain in the afternoon with lightning and thunder. Today's forecast is 83°/48° and sunny. Again the smoke may keep the temp down.

The air quality is still bad so I'm staying inside as much as possible. Did some cloest cleaning and have a couple of bags for the new Goodwill down in the town where my Podiatrist is located. I see him tomorrow so will drop them off then.

93 this morning. Our high yesterday was 104° again and it is going to be hotter the next few days through the weekend then we will start to cool down next week and should get under 100°. Hoping for that, I am getting tired of the over 100° temps.
I am off in a bit for an appointment with my cardiologist for a routine follow up so that should be easy. I got the results for the 4 biopsies that I had taken and all 4 came back positive and need to have MOHS surgery, ugh.  I expected maybe one or two being cancer but not all four, oh well. One is on my left cheek and one is on the right side of my head and not happy about those. One is on my right elbow and one is on my back and those will be easy to deal with.

I'm sorry to hear your results Wally. I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers that the surgeries are as small as possible and you heal quickly. Sadly, the things we didn't know about long term exposure to the sun back in the day, have come back to haunt us later in life. I remember myself as a teen ager coating my body with cocoa butter and lying in the sun to "tan". Mostly what I did was burn, being a fair skinned red head. But I tried and tried again and again. It is a miracle I am not in your same situation now too!

118 this morning.

78° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 88°/47° and sunny. Temps are supposed to go up into the 90's over the next few days. Air is still unhealthy but at least the fire near me is now 23% contained and they have lifted evacuation orders on part of the area. I was looking at the list of roads evacuated and realizes I had put in an offer on a home on one of them when I first moved here. Guess I chose well buying here instead!

Podiatrist appt today to do scan for fitting of diabetic shoes. Should be interesting. One good thing is I may come away with my true shoe size, I don't really know exactly what size I am when I order online. It is always hit and miss. Also looking forward to poking around the new Goodwill store! I have 3 garbage bags full of clothing and a few kitchen items to donate.

87 this morning. Our high yesterday was 106° and it is supposed to be the same today and through the weekend but cooling down next week.
My cardiologist appointment went well yesterday and all is good and that was a good thing that kind of made me feel better.
I am not really too upset about the need to have the surgeries on my skin cancers, I have had several done before and will probably have more in the future. I am fair skinned and always have been subject to sunburn without really getting tan. I worked outside for years and was not good about using any sunscreen and now am paying for it.  The good thing is that my dermatologist has me on a 6 month screening for possible cancers and gets them before they get too big. My poor father in law had a spot on his ear that he just picked at and it finally got so bad he finally went to a dermatologist and it was cancerous and he ended up having half of his ear removed and then had to have radiation treatments after that. I don't ever want to be there so getting them soon is a big thing.
I will be interested to hear how you like the new shoes Barbara and if they make any difference. I don't know what diabetic shoes are and what they do that is different. I like my Sketchers and really like the ones I have that are easy to step in.

110 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 79°, today's forecast is 91°/49°. It is still smoky, so I don't think it will get that high.

For the diabetic shoes, they scan the foot and use them to build the inside of the shoe exactly to your foot proportions. They are wider in the toe box a bit to allow the toes to move better and have easy to use closures. (Slip ons can't get any easier, but none of their shoes seem to have that feature.) these are the ones I chose:

 https://www.drcomfort.com/meghan

They are pricey, but Medicare/Insurance pays for one pair a year and 3 inserts if needed. So I thought I'd give them a try. Why not?

I was disappointed with the new Goodwill, they are more expensive than the little thrift store I go to in that town and the selection was kind of junky. I did drop off my 3 bags though just to get them out of the house. Most of what I donated is better quality than what they have now. It was worth checking out and will be a good place to drop off the rest of the things I need to thin out of my closets.

I have a bunch of papers and things to organize that I have been putting off, hoping to get to some of that today.

95 this morning. Our high yesterday was 109° and it should be the same today. That is the highest we should see and now it is supposed to start cooling down now. In Los Angeles they are having a really high period and in the San Fernando Valley of LA they are supposed to get to 115V which is really hot for there and the rest of the LA area. It is unusual for it to be hotter there than here and they are not as used to it as we are.
The shoes look interesting Barbara, I will have to talk to my podiatrist the next time I see him about trying out diabetic shoes and if they would be of any help for me, especially if Medicare would pay for them. My shoes last me for over a year so getting them once a year would be plenty.
The Goodwill store here in town closed down a couple of years ago but we have a Salvation Army in town that has a thrift store and I have dropped off donations there before but I have never shopped at their store.

For me, with the swelling in one leg/foot, a better shoe will really help. You may not have any problems at this point but a good pair of shoes fit precisely to your foot may be a good preventative measure to take. Granted the shoes aren't "styling" and "cool" but if they keep any problems from happening in the future, and thet're free, it is worth trying them. My Podiatrist also said if they didn't quite fit right the first time they'd send them back for adjustments until they are just right.

I'll let you know how the process goes and how the shoes actually feel when I get them.

108 this morning.

The high yesterday was 78° a far cry from the 91°. The smoke cover is really blocking the heat. Heat-wise that's OK by me but air quality-wise not so much! Today's forecast is 91°/50° and sunny/smoky.

The fire nearby is now 3,000 acres but at least it is now 32% contained. It was too smoky this morning to see much so these are yesterday's photos:
