104 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 78° again. Haven't hit the forecasted number in several days. Darned smoke. Today is Unhealthy Air again. Today's forecast is 87°/50° but the air is so bad again today I doubt it will get there. There may be some dry lightening today...boo!  By Wed there is supposed to be rain and thunderstorms, then just rain for a couple more days. Hope the rain can help the firefighters and the thunderstorms don't materialize!

Staying inside again today, collecting the garbage is about it for me, maybe some more closet thinning.

Hope all is OK Wally and that you just forgot to hit "Post" yesterday.  ~ cat ~

106 this morning. Yeah, I must have forgot to hit post yesterday. I have done that before but usually catch it and repost but not yesterday. :-[  :-[
Our high yesterday was 108° the same as the day before but it is going to start cooling down slowly and should be getting under 100° by the middle of the week.
There were two small earthquakes, 3.5 and 3.9, yesterday East of Los Angeles, no damage reported and that is not nearly enough to cause any problems, nothing even close to the 6.9 and 7.2 we had here but you would have thought it was a major disaster reading the news reporting. I guess anything they can blow up to get people to watch or click on line is worth it to them but what a nothing burger! They like to hype the "Big One" and when it will happen and, yeah, it probably will happen but it may be next month or next century.

I've done it many times before too! Not as often here as on the other forum I participate on. There, if you forget to post and go on to another thread, when you come back tp post again in that thread, your post is saved! You can either delete it, or post it, or even add on to it and then post. That feature has saved me a lot of rewrites!!

Oh I am sure it is paid s/w! It is a huge forum about all things TV called Primetimer. I follow a few shows and different discussion threads. It is a fun place that has had several reincarnations while I have been a member since 2014. Lots of bells and whistles I don't think we really need here.

116 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 70° smoke definitely kept it cooler. Today's forecast is 86°/49° but it was so smoky when I went out to feed the kitties, I doubt we'll see that high or anything close.

The repair people are coming this morning to replace the ignighter on my gas fireplace/stove and another part that I had ordered when they put in the new furnace. Didn't need the fireplace in the Summer! The high winds we had last month blew ou the pilot light so and I couldn't get it relit so it is time for replacing it.

It is terribly smoky today so all I'm doing outside is taking the garbage up the road and a quick qrocery run.

105 this morning. Our high yesterday was 107° and it is supposed to be cooling down now and we should be below 100° by Wednesday.
There is a big wildfire in the San Bernardino forest that has bloomed to over 20,000 acres and threatens over 35,000 structures. That is not a typo, most of those structures are individual homes but also include commercial buildings and other structures. It is only 3% contained and there are thunder storms in the area that while the rain can help the problem is that it causes the fire to go in different directions so really hard to try to contain it.  This is in the mountains East of Los Angeles and not near here so we are not getting any smoke from it here.

103 this morning.

Yesterday's high was 78° and so smoky! Today's forecast is 84°/50° and they say today will be even smokier than yesterday!! Then wind and rain come in for a couple of days. These forecast temps are kind of a joke when the smoke is this bad.

Got the fireplace fixed yesterday, nice to have it on now to take the morning chill off the room. Chewy order arrived 3 boxes to unload.  Ran my two errands and was exhausted by end of day.

Today I have a major issue to tackle and I dread even starting it. When my mom passed away (1988), she left my younger brother the family home in trust with the condition if he sold it or passed away, I or my heirs would get 25% of the profits. Well, every once in a while I will google him (I have no relationship with him or my older brother who gets nothing from the house). To my surprise I found the house listed on Zillow! The first time I saw it about a month ago it was at $1.3 million! Little old house in excellent area. Stipulations in will were he was to be reimbursed for upkeep over the years and I figured he'd manage to get all my share by hook or by the crook that he is so I didn't pursue it. Talking to my DD who is also a lawyer, she said I should get my name and location on the title just in case he hasn't sold it yet. The will has been filed with the courts so I am in that document. But I need to be on the deed too I guess.

Sooooo today I am going to have to work my way by phone through the red tape in the CA Registrar's office (or where ever they send me) to be sure my whereabouts and contact info are on file. I can only imagine what kind of nightmare that is going to be from this distance!

Wish me luck!

104 this morning. Our high yesterday was 104° and it is going to be just a bit cooler today then tomorrow we should see a drop under the 100° mark. That will be a welcome change.
Wildfires are still a big news story in the mountains above San Bernardino and the San Gabriel Valley and another in Orange County. Dry vegetation and winds along with temps over 100° are making fighting these fires a real problem. There have been many communities in the mountains that have been evacuated. Containment is a long way off.
Hope you get things worked out Barbara.

Yeah, from the phone calls/online searching I did today it looks like an impossible task. My brother is not a nice person (understatement) He may have already sold the home and claimed he didn't know how to find me. I googled myself and enough info to find me is right there so that would be a lie. Not unlike him... I will probably have to hire an estate lawyer in CA to untangle things and I have a feeling it will just be throwing good money away.

I kind of knew way back when mom died, I'd probably never see my inheritance share from my brother. I expected he would stay there until he died and then who knows how things would go. The will was recorded with the County Clerk but if that is enough I don't know. I will do some more poking around maybe something will turn up.

111 this morning.

73° was the high yesterday and very smoky. Todays forecast is 70°/49°, cloudy with showers and windy thunderstorms possible. The next 10 days show as rainy, cloudy then rainy again but no t-storms thank goodness. Maybe this will finally put out the fiires.

Not much luck on the search for any info on the home ownership. Frustrating to say the least. I'm going to try just googling "how to find owner of a home in CA" and see if there is something I can try.  My gut is saying just let it go, he has probably already sold it and made off with all the money, just as I would have expected of him.

Otherwise nothing on my agenda except probably covering the kitty beds on the decks if the rain gets heavy. Seems like Fall has arrived weather-wise at least.

101 this morning. Our high yesterday was cooler at 102° and today it is finally supposed to be 98° so finally getting under the 100° mark.
There are three wildfires in the mountains in Southern California and one in the hills of Orange County that are really getting big and out of control and now they are getting into communities and destroying homes.  The vegetation is so dry they are really hard to control and they are just getting bigger.

That is really sad. At least most of what is burning here is forest and some out buildings. The homes built into the forest make it harder to fight the forest fires though, because resources are deployed to protect them instead of knocking down the fire.

101 this morning. Our high yesterday was 97° so finally under 100° and it is supposed to be 94° today.
The three fires in the Southern California area are still only partly contained and have gotten into communities and destroyed several homes and other structures. All three were caused by humans. One was started when the County was using heavy equipment to move boulders to keep people from going into the wooded area to prevent starting a fire and sparks from the equipment started the fire! One, the largest at over 50K acres now was started by a man on purpose and he has been arrested and it is believed that he is probably responsible for starting other fires. The third one was started bi three teenage boys playing with fireworks in a field. The sad thing is that all three could have been prevented.
