96 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 108° and it should be the same today.
It looks like they are having success protecting the Sequoias threatened by the wildfire.  They have wrapped a couple of the trees with aluminum foil and set up a sprinkler system that they hope will help and the weather is helping also.  It is not over but it is looking better.

82° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 92°/55° again hope it doesn't get that high.

Glad to hear they are working to save the Sequoias Wally. Really hope they are successful!

That's good news. Being a Forest Friend, I was pretty perturbed about the threat to the trees.

102 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 106° and probably a couple of degrees hotter today.
Yeah, this grove of Giant Sequoias is about 500 trees and the good news is that the fire is moving away from them now.  On the downer side there have been about 20% of the Sequoias killed by wildfires in the last two years.  While they even depend on fire passing through to clear out the underbrush and it also causes the seed pods to open up and distribute the seeds.  The bad part is that because of the drought and high temps the fires are much more intense than they have been in the past.  These giant trees are something to behold in person.  Really quite stunning.

108 this sunny morning.

Yesterday's high was 81°, I'm beginning to think the forecast on my app is not that close to where I actually live. Today's forecast is 95°/53°.

Glad to hear the Sequoias are safe this time around. They are amazing majestic trees.

I can imagine. Our forests, or the ones that I have been to, do not have anything like that.
Monsoons are in full flow here. Some western parts of the country are being flooded. Satellite images show more is headed this way.

102 yesterday.  We got to 108° yesterday and it is supposed to get to 109° today, 110-111° over the weekend.  I had to go out yesterday and pick up a prescription and it was HOT!  Last night we had a 4.6 earthquake, not really bad but a good jolt and it didn't last long.  I was waiting for a stronger one to hit but that was all.  Some people not used to earthquakes freak out at one like this but we are in earthquake country and it is not unusual here.
This article may have interest about the trees and the fire, the size of the Grizzly Giant is hard to imagine:
QuoteMariposa Grove is in a very good place. We're going to put some specialty crews in there to work deeper into the grove, clean it up, but we're very close to tying up all the dots together, said Matt Ahern, deputy operations chief with the California Interagency Incident Management Team.
With fire lines around the grove holding, containment looked good, but crews will continue to reinforce the area and deal with hazard trees, he said in a briefing early Thursday.
The fire drew the world's attention as the iconic Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, visited by more than 1 million people a year, was threatened this week as  the Washburn Fire drew nearer.
The grove covers 248 acres and contains more than 500 mature giant sequoia trees. Some of them are estimated to be as much as 3,000 to 3,500 years old.
The frequently photographed Grizzly Giant sequoia stands 209 feet tall and is estimated to weigh 2 million pounds.
As of Thursday, the fire covered 4,375 acres and was 23% contained, according to information posted by national park staff.

113 this morning that started with another fierce thunderstorm. It even scared away my front porch mama and kittens...hope they come back. It is nice now, hope they find their way back home.

Yesterday's high was 85°, today's forecast is 93°/52° hoping it doesn't get that high.

eta 1150AM: They're back!! Mama brought them home! :)))

97 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 108° and it is predicted to be 111° today. We were at 84° at 6:00 AM so that seems right.  I use the Weather Channel website to get my predictions and they seem to be pretty accurate for this area and within 1-2° of what my weather station shows.
They say that the earthquake we felt Thursday night was an aftershock from the 7.1 we had in 2019.  I guess because it is on the same fault.  It was felt all the way to Los Angeles which is about 150 miles away.

106 this sunny morning.

Yesterday's high was 85°, today's forecast is 96°/51°. I'm hoping that is going to be wrong.

Wally, all the years I lived in CA, I don't ever remember hearing of an aftershock so long after the original quake.

Yeah, that was from "Dr. Lucy" the seismologist at Cal. Tech and she is considered to be an expert on earthquakes.  I think it is because it is on the same fault that it is considered an aftershock.  It was a jolt but it didn't last very long and no damage anywhere that I know of.  When it started I was worried that it was a pre-shock and something stronger was coming but that was all.

I suppose the Earth is as complicated as the human body, and no one really knows what 'actually' is going on. Most of the understanding that we have is based on estimations relying more on statistics than anything else.

The rains have taken a break and there was some sunshine yesterday. It's still overcast though.

I've been through several earthquakes here in Montana. Surprisingly MT is number 4 on the list of states with the most seismic activity...who knew??

96 this morning.  Our high yesterday hit the predicted 111° and is supposed to be the same today.  We will be over 100° for the rest of the month but it looks like the 111° will be the highest.
Yeah SKB, I think that many things like weather and earthquakes are only understood by looking at the past.
Wow Barbara, I did not know that about Montana.
