88 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 98° and it should be a couple of degrees cooler today but then will be stuck at around 95-96° for the next week then cooling down again and we will be in the 80s finally.  I am really ready for cooler weather.
I continue to be amazed at medical technology.  My cardiologist has had me wear a Holter monitor in the past and it was a box with the electronics in it and had several leads that were stuck to your body so you had the box which was held on with a belt around your waist and the leads (wires) running from the box to the sensor that was stuck to your body and I usually had to wear it 24 hours.  The reason for this is to check for afib and I have been told that 24 hours is really not long enough to do a good job it should be a week, well now it will be.
Wednesday I was fitted with a new device that is only about 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 inches square and about 1/2 inch thick with no leads or wires.  It is stuck to your chest and then you wear it for a week then remove it and return it to the vendor by mail in a prepaid box.  They send the results to your doctor.  It is not water proof but water resistant and you can shower with it but need to be careful to not drown it.  This is terrific, I don't even realize it is there most of the time.

133 this cloudy morning. :(  Not liking these high numbers.

68° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 62°/46° with a chance of rain showers in the evening.

Yeah those Holter monitors are a pain. I had to wear one a long time ago forgot why. That new model sounds really nice by comparison Wally.

I've had bouts of that recently and am aware of it intuitively. The watch also helps in indicating these swings. About 6-8 months ago the swings could be between 27-168, but I since I gave up on the medicines they prescribed, especially the BP pills, the beta-blocker in particular, I tend to remain between 80-120. Even at these levels, the swing is noticeable. Things have been calm for the past couple of months. So far so good.

88 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 95° and the prediction for the next week is 95° every day for the whole week.  Of course that is always subject to change but kind of interesting.
The part of afib that is irregular heart beat is mainly what this is looking for and since that can be a fleeting thing it is necessary to wear it for an extended period of time.  There are other symptoms but heart rate is not one of them.  My resting heart rate is 80-85 bpm which I think is OK.
Actually I am wrong.  After checking I found that while afib (atrial fibrillation) is irregular heartbeat it can often cause the heart to beat too fast so heart rate is important.
HOW CAN AFib LEAD TO A STROKE?
During a normal heartbeat, the upper chambers (atria) and lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart work together to pump blood to the rest of the body. AFib occurs when the upper chambers of the heart beat irregularly, and do not pump all of the blood to the lower chambers, causing some blood to pool and potentially form clots. If a clot breaks loose, it can travel through the bloodstream to the brain and lead to a stroke. Strokes related to AFib are often more severe compared to strokes with other underlying causes.

The monitor I am wearing is looking for an irregular heart beat.

124 this cloudy morning. Just don't understand these numbers...something must be going on that I am not aware of...

Another 68° for the high yesterday, today's forecast is 63°/48° with a chance of rain showers in the afternoon.

I hope all turns out well with your heart Wally.

My knee has been bothering me the last few days so I am having a telehealth appt with my Gastro on Monday instead of driving up to town. First time I have done that...don't know what to expect.

I got up a bit early even though it is a Sunday, and got busy making tea for myself and the Mrs. In the process, I completely forgot to check.

87 this morning.  our high yesterday was 94°, close enough to the predicted 95° and now they are saying 94-96° for the next week as if 1-2° would make any difference.
Barbara, I think the tele-conference works quite well for a doctors appointment when it is for a follow up and the doctor doesn't need to see you in person.

Geesh, 136 this partly cloudy morning. :(

59° was the high yesterday and there was some light rain in the afternoon. Today's forecast is 65°/43° with a slight chance of rain.

My appointment with the Gastro is a follow up but he was going to do blood work. I'm going to see if he can use the results from my pcp appt in June. My knee just isn't up to driving up to town...

Barbara,
As you might recall, I visit an Ayurvedic clinic since January for some cardiac issues that I had last December. Just the other day I received a promotional advt from them for knee pain (and issues). My next appointment is fixed for Saturday morning and I am going to have a word with the doctors that sit there, about the solution(s) they may have for this problem. I will get back to you with what I hear from them, and then we'll see how we can take it up from there.

99 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 93° so just a bit lower than predicted but it is going to be around the 95° for the rest of the week then next week about a 10° drop and we will be in the 80s.
SKB, I still think that Barbara really needs to see an orthopedic specialist for her knee.  I thought she had said that she had an appointment with one but I am not sure.  The injections (hyaluronan) did wonders for my knee problems and while they may not turn out to be the solution for her it would sure be worth trying.

127 this mostly clear morning.

62° was the high yesterday with a few sprinkles of rain. Today's forecast is 72°/44°.

Yeah Wally, I did see an ortho in June and got the shot in my knee. dx was arthritis.  The shot only worked for about a week and then the pain was back. I have been trying various patches and potions some work better than others. I am making a batch of "drunken raisins" which are supposed to be a home remedy for arthritis. Golden raisins soaked in gin for a couple of weeks then eat 9 a day. At this point, I'll try just about anything.

Thanks for the offer skb, I'll take any help I can get!

I agree. Given that she has tried several patches and ointments which have given some temporary relief, I thought of just discussing the issue with the ayurveds here.

You know that cardiologists prescribe a class of drugs known as "nitroglycerin" to heart patients. These drugs help to dilate the blood vessels to improve the blood supply. The ayurvedic system suggests powders or capsules containing the ground bark of a tree known as "arjun" which is also a dilator without any of the side effects the allopathic drug may have. In fact most allopathic drugs are synthetic versions of medications from other systems that try to mimic the original.

I will just ask them for advice on what methods or formulations they have and pass that on to Barbara. It may / may not help, but there is no harm in trying.
