I know you have run into that before when trying to upgrade your laptop, taking a real long time to do it.  I am not sure what is available for your laptop due to how old it is but if it is offering an upgrade it should work.  It may be how much it needs to download or your internet connection speed that causes it to take as long as it says but it also may not take nearly as long as it shows.  I think it is OK to use your laptop while it is upgrading but I am not sure but it will let you know if it is a problem probably by stopping the download but at least you would know.  I am crossing my fingers.

Thanks for the quick reply! I have't gotten any messages to stop using laptop. I will be sparingly using it.It can run all night to finish if it needs to. A quick check and upgrade is running right now even as I use laptop. I sure hope this fixesprinter issues...

Well darn! The update to Ventura failed 3 times! I'll try once more over night and then I guess it is time to call support...

I'm seriously thinking of sending it back. The tanks are full of ink I don't know how they will travel but I guess, not my problem.

I surely can't afford a new computer just to use the printer... I'm seriously sorry I got a printer at all!

Good news for the day, I managed to catch 1 newborn kitten in the. auto trap. I almost had 4 as they were all hanging around the front of the trap, but only one went all the way in and stayed. A couple sniffed the entrance but didn't go in.

Well, really sorry you are having such problems.  My understanding is that your laptop is too old to upgrade to Ventura because Apple deems it so.  I found two Youtube videos that show how to upgrade older Apple laptops using a third party program.  I will give a link if you want to try it.

Install Ventura on a 2012 Mac  Youtube

It would take some time and looks like a fair amount of work but you have to go through these hoops if you want to upgrade.  I don't blame you for not wanting to but a new laptop, mine was around $800 when I bought it about two years ago.  It is a great little laptop and has the M1 chip which is a big benefit but if you are happy with yours then it is not something you want to do.  Because Epson shows your version for downloading the software I think it should work so I do think a call to Epson support would be be a good idea before you do anything else.  OTOH there are lots of Macbooks used selling on Ebay for around $300-$400 that are newer and running Ventura that are another option.

Thanks Wally, I'll look at those links. By the way my MacBook Air is a 2018 and the Ventura listing says it would be compatible for the upgrade. What is odd is I have it set to install all upgrades automatically as they become available. Maybe that doesn't include OS upgrades?  That is what I don't understand. I'll look at your links and maybe I will just have to bite the bullet and get a new laptop... so much hassle fir a printer.

Well as I understand it there is a difference between an update and an upgrade.  It should automatically update so you are current with the changes that provide security and small improvements but an upgrade is a major change and each upgrade has a new name.  I don't think an upgrade can be automatic.  If the Ventura lists your Mac is OK for the upgrade maybe it would be a good idea to call Apple support to find out why the upgrade fails.  I had a problem once, I think it was with my iPad, and ended up calling Apple support and they were really good at guiding me through fixing my problem.  The fact that your laptop offers the Ventura upgrade and that the Ventura listing shows it compatible should mean that the upgrade should work just fine.  I don't know why but I thought your laptop was older, maybe because I remember you had tried to upgrade it before and it failed.  It would be a good thing to get it upgraded for a lot of reasons so a call to Apple support would be probably a good thing.

Well, I did some poking around/googling etc re why my laptop won't upgrade. The simplest answer I found which may or may not ultimately work was, "turn off your laptop and then turn it on again". So I did that and the upgrade has been running all day slow as molasses rolling up hill in January, but it is still going! I'm at 2.30 GB of 11.94GB and it has been going at least 8 hours so far. Maybe it will work this time and then I can go back to trying to get the printer printing.

Wish me luck!!

ETA: just 30 minutes after writing the above,  it timed out!  :(  I'm done with it for today...

You could carry your laptop to another area with a faster network.

I don't know any place here in town with free WiFi. I'll ask a couple of neighbors. One might have a faster network, though I don't know what that may be out here in the boonies.

Yeah, slow internet could be a problem.  The upgrade is pretty large and takes some time even over a decent internet speed.  I don't know what you have there or what the speed is but it could be what is causing you such problems.  Also upgrading from where your MacBook is will take a lot more than what mine had to download as mine was just one version down.  It would be worth while to try to find a faster source either from a neighbor or in town.

Took the day off fooling with the printer/laptop. I was getting too stressed over the whole thing. Maybe I try again tomorrow...or not.

I can understand that.  A lot of the time it helps to walk away and let it be for a while before trying to tackle a problem you are banging your head against the wall to try to solve.  I still think that a call to Apple support may be a big help.
