That will be my next step when I am ready to tackle this again! Thanks!

And to make it even more "interesting" today Apple announced that Mac OS 14 "Sonoma" is out.  It also lists supported devices include the 2018 MacBook Air which I believe is the one you have but still opting for Ventura would be just fine if that is what you want.  Either way I do believe that upgrading is most likely to resolve your problems.  If there is any way you could find a faster internet source it would probably help a lot.
Probably not something you want to deal with but if you wanted to you could ship it to me and I could upgrade it and send it back but it would be a job to package it and then the cost of shipping it but it is just an idea.

Thanks Wally, that figures, I can't get Ventura to download now there is a newer one!

You konw, I am teetering on the brink of just getting a new MacBook Air.  I see there is a 15" one now with all kinds of bells and whistles that is just $200 more than the 13". I have a 13" right now and 15" might suit me better. I may just haul my 13" up to Missoula to the Apple store and see what happens...

I had to laugh in the email about the new items it showed trade in value for what I have now. My macbookair would bring some $300, my iPhone7 around $40 and my iPadmini2 they would recycle for free!! LOL! Not bothering about the iPad and I still like my phone....

The trade in would make up the difference in price between the 13" and 15". As long as they can transfer things for me to new laptop or show me an easy/idiot proof way to do it myself, a new laptop is beginning to sound good. Have to think on this for a bit.

I really appreciate the offer to do the upgrade, but the costs of shipping and ins both ways and frankly being without it for a while, make just getting a new one a better option. You are a good friend to offer and I thank you so much for that!! I think Thursday I'm taking a trip to. Missoula!

Well, since your present MacBook is 5 years old now it would be quite an improvement for you and I think you would really like it.  Since the laptop is your main computer going to a 15" one would be a definite improvement.  My MacBook Air is a 13" and it is kind of small but I got it for that reason so it would be great for traveling.  It is so thin and light that it would be great to take anywhere.  The only thing is that since I bought it I haven't been anywhere but I do keep it up to date with updates and keep it charged and do play with it a bit to try and learn more about the Mac OS.
If you go to the Apple store they would be able to help you set up your new laptop and transfer all of your data from your old laptop as reset your trade in so it will not have any of your data on it.  You should have them update it to the new Sonoma version while you are there also as it will not have that yet.  I think you would be really happy with a new laptop, I know I would but then I am a tech junkie!

This thread has been silent for a few days.

I read about the mass shooting in Maine on the News. I wonder if the 2nd Amendment has really helped. I have a background from the Shooting Sports and short of representing the country, I have achieved everything in the sport. India came out with a new Arms Act recently and I worked hard in framing some of the clauses in there along with my federation members, especially those relating to Sports Shooters. Whereas we tried to keep the laws relating to our fraternity as liberal as possible, I somehow agree with the very tight gun control laws for the general population. If gun ownership is common then some nut-crack will lose it someday and these incidents will be rampant. In your view, what can be done by the government to keep such incidents in control ? I wonder what would happen if ever there is civil unrest in the US.

That is a tough question to answer. I live in MT and there are probably more gun owners than not. And those that have them will never give them up. It is the wild west out here!

These mass shootings are heartbreaking and so senseless, but I honestly think that the nut jobs out there are going to get guns no matter how controlled they may be.  Just like with drugs, they are illegal, but there are a zillion drug dealers of all levels out there selling to anyone that wants drugs. The same will happen with guns as/if ownership rules tighten.

Yes there are many, many responsible gun owners...they actually probably outnumber the "bad ones", but the bad ones do such harm, something does need to be done, but I have no idea how it would work. That is for people more in the know to figure out...

Yes, I suppose we could face civil unrest and end up with another Civil War on our hands, I just have to hope that somehow saner heads can prevail.

It is late and I'm just thinking off the top of my head, I probably shouldn't be trying to. put cohesive thoughts together at this time of day......

I am a gun owner and I do believe that owning a gun is a privilege that we should have but I also do not see a reason for the general public to have a weapon that is designed for one reason only and that is to kill people like an AR15.  I carried one in Vietnam and that is what it was designed for.  It is not a hunting or target gun.  A gun that has a large magazine and rapid fire is not necessary for anything but killing people so I do believe in controlling access to military weapons.  I have a handgun and a 12 gauge shotgun and feel confident that is all I need for home protection.

Totally agree Wally! If I wasn't so tired last night I probably would have thought of the military type weapons vs hunting/target and self protection type guns. Though they can be misused too sadly.

Thank you and skb for being responsible gun owners!

I am a pure hand-gunner. Never tried anything with a longer barrel, except for plinking. One of my prized possessions is an Ithaca 1911 in 0.45 ACP. I traced it's history with online records and it turned out that the pistol was manufactured in 1945.

Sometime ago we were discussing the depleting ground water and lakes drying up. In today's news I read about a study that has determined that the Earth's tilt has increased by 31.5" due to excessive pumping of the ground water from aquifers. This study was done over a period of the last 17 years and it is estimated that during this period enough ground water has been pumped out to fill 836 million Olympic sized swimming pools.

Ta Da!! I figured out how to get my phone pix useable for here. Hope they don't disappear like some of the others do!

This is sort of a panorama of the morning feeding on 11/27, there are a couple behind the shovel too. Outside temp was 8°!
