That mainly was the purpose of my test. If I ever come upon a great sale, I can stock up.Since it is just me here, I don't go through them as fast as you do so freezing is a viable option for me.

Quote from: walkerwally1 on August 03, 2023, 10:54:26 AMThe idea of using a rechargeable battery until it is at 10% was true when we used NiCad batteries but with the advent of Lithium rechargeable batteries it is no longer true.  NiCads would develop a "memory" and if not discharged fully they would not charge fully then. I used to play around with RC airplanes and Quadcopters and we used NiCads and the chargers actually had a discharge option so you would discharge them before recharging them.  The Lithium batteries that we use today do not have a memory so this is not needed.

I think it is kind of interesting because we depend on batteries for so many of our things nowadays.  The other thing people wonder about is when they read about a Lithium battery like the one in our phones they see that it is good for a number, say 500 cycles, what does that mean. What lot of people think is that means that it can be charged only 500 times but a cycle is going from 100% to 0% so if you discharge to 50% and charge back to 100% two times that is one cycle.

Thanks for that info! I don't like to let my phone get much below 50%. I don't have a land line, haven't for many years so my iPhone is my only lifeline. If I would be caught with a long hold on a call or a long call and get too low, I would not feel safe if I needed the emergency feature. I worried that I was hurting my battery or lessening it's life by charging it as I do. I feel better now.

Yeah the battery in the iPhone lasts for several years.  You can see just how much the battery has degraded by going to settings then scrolling down to battery and select that then select "battery health & charging" and that will show maximum capacity.  A new phone will be at 100% and it will go down as it gets older.  While there it would be a good idea to turn on "optimized battery charging" if it is not on now.  When the battery percentage decreases it doesn't mean that the phone won't work it just means that it will not last as long on a charge.

I've had my iPhone7 for several years. I like the size of it. My max capacity right now is 86%. Optimised charging has been on a long time. It says battery is supporting normal peak performance. So I guess I am just fine right now. Thanks for the help!

But do remember that cell phones operate on MW so for very long calls use it in speaker mode or wired headphones.

While on the subject, I also tell people, random people, on the bus or metro, not to keep their cell phones in their shirt pocket close to their heart. I carry it in my hip pocket whenever I have to do that.

OK dummy here, what is MW? I always use speaker when I talk on the phone as I walk when I am talking and it is more comfortable. I carry my phone in my pocket, pants or vest pocket (a vest for the cold not the "vest" pocket).

Sorry. MW has a lot of meanings like, medium wave or mega watt but what I meant was microwave.

I'll post a link as well, though many agencies claim that this is all rubbish, it is better to be aware and use precaution.

I rarely talk on my phone for a long time but I do like the speaker function.  I have honestly never worried about the effect of MW from the phone but then I don't use it that much.  I know a lot of people like to carry the phone in their back pocket but I never have because I don't want to sit on it so I usually carry in in my front pocket

Since you live in a remote area and are within a small area all the time I think that you would be accessible to the same tower throughout the day and therefore your pings to the tower would be limited to a few a day. However, if you were mobile and your cell tower changes the phone starts to ping every time it accesses a new tower. Those pings to and fro are the RF microwaves that we are talking about. The worst surge is when someone calls you, and the tower searches for you and when your phone rings. By front pocket, if you mean your pant's front pocket, it is OK, just don't keep it in your shirt's pocket.

Well it is kind of a remote area but there are several towers around here but some are for different carriers. We have Verizon, AT& T and T-Mobile and they all have their own towers.  I use Consumer Cellular but they use AT&T towers and are contracted with them.  Yes I mean the front pants pocket.  I really don't worry about the MW, I am not out that much and it is for short periods.  I don't use my shirt pocket mainly because I don't want the phone to fall out and it can when in the shirt pocket and my pants pocket feels more secure.  For someone that is younger and spends a lot more time on a phone it may be a lot more applicable.
