Good Morning! Good night from smoky Montana! I am just going to bed here as it is 11PM Thursday night.

I'm back. No pictures this time as the work going on is mostly internal. The plumbers and electricians are doing all the work that is going to be concealed, and the main contractor has started to prepare for the plaster.

I have been meaning to ask this for a while. My internet service is now laying cable for broadband in my area. They are getting close to me and I have a question. From what I see the cables are being laid alongside the highway and I assume the roads that dump into it. But what about the secondary streets, all the little roads like mine with just 4 homes on it?  How does the broadband get to us? I think I am the only one on the road that uses this co.

The co. has said nothing about that part so far. Wally, when you got yours, how did it work? Did you have to pay for cable from the road to your home or does it come in wireless from the road? I don't know how it works and I asked my friend if she knew because she is with the same co. She lives off the same road I do further down the road on a small lane. She has no clue either.

What was your experience Wally? Or you skb, if you have similar type service.

Mine comes through a fiber cable. The cost of cable and the laying + the back end equipment is all built into their calculations and they should only be charging you as per the plan that you choose. In a couple of years internet will be coming through the skies and the cable networks will be redundant. As of the now the satellite systems are a work-in-progress and very expensive, where available.

Thanks, so then they will lay cable from the street down to my house? I only pay $70/mo right now for basic service (very slow) my level will go up to $100/mo when the broadband is live. At that point I may move up to a higher tier of service.

I am really not sure if you have to pay for the cable going to your property. I would guess that you would have to ask the company that is providing the service. When I lived on the mountain we had no cable service and I had a satellite service from Hughes, not great but it was all that was available. Here in town the cable is installed on the same above ground poles that the telephone lines are on. I had that when I first moved here and last year another company used the same poles to install fiber and ran the lines to my home at no cost to me and now I have fiber with 1G service.

The cables are underground here that is why I was wondering if they would go to each house. I guess there is no easy answer as every service seems to do it differently. I'll call the co. to see what they will be doing. Thanks for your answer.
