A new study from Lund University in Sweden raises questions about the efficacy of bariatric operations involving gastric bypass. The results show that the biggest metabolic changes happened directly after surgery. Just a year after the operation, the concentration of metabolites and fats had returned to almost the same levels as before the procedure.

I think that most people that go for this want a fix that does not require any change in how they have lived for years.  They want to be thin and also continue to eat the same as always and not change anything.

Yeah, another magic "pill". I understand there are medical reasons other than weight loss for some of these procedures, and those people have good motivation to keep it off, but the ones just looking to be thin w/out doing the work the rest of their lives are just vain in my opinion.

Sorry for your loss! I bet there are a lot more that we don't know about. It just seems like such a drastic procedure.
