How Diabetes slows healing in the eyes.

Investigators from Cedars-Sinai have provided new understanding of how diabetes delays wound healing in the eye, identifying for the first time two related disease-associated changes to the cornea.

The findings, published in the peer-reviewed journal Diabetologia, also identified three therapeutic pathways that reversed these changes and partially restored wound-healing function to the cornea—a discovery that could ultimately inform new treatments for diabetes.

I have special feelings about Cedars-Sinai because that is where my heart valve was replaced but I am not happy that this study lumps everyone with diabetes together and there does not seem to be any distinction between someone well controlled and someone that is not controlled at all.  How can someone that has diabetes and an A1c of 5% be compared to someone that has diabetes and an A1c of 11% ?  The ability to heal will not be the same.

So true Wally, and that seems to be the case in most studies. A diabetic well controlled is considered just the same as one that is way out of control in their conclusions. Maybe some day control will be a consideration too...hopefully.
