I bought 2 avocados today they are as hard as rocks.I really want to enjoy them but I am afraid they will end up in the garbage. They are hard  as rocks, how do I know when they are ripe?

Leave them on the counter.  They will ripen.  When it feels to the touch about like a hard-boiled egg, it's ready.
