My life is based on a true story.

I take plain ice water, ice water with a splash of lemon & a dash of salt, or ice water soaking a bag of green tea. If I get the day started with a quart of it & refill as needed, I can stay well hydrated all day long.

Never was much of a soda drinker.  I always have a bottle of water beside me or with me and one chilling in the refrigerator.  I do drink several glasses of diet tonic water a day, usually with breakfast. I drop one frozen strawberry in for flavor.  The one berry lasts 2-3 glasses.  The quinine in it helps with leg cramps.

Me too. Wasn't ever fond of sodas or "cold drinks" as they are known here. Almost 80% of all packaged food has added sugar. That makes supermarket trips that much difficult. Thankfully we still get fresh foods in the market very easily. Very little of our foods come from a shelf.

I think I was put off carbonated drinks when, as a child, the bubbles would back up through my nose! That was no fun!  :P

I'm not a great fan of sodas myself. But AJ used to love his Rum & coke. Drinking up 2 small bottles / cans every evening was a regular feature. Thankfully now he has switched to Scoth on the rocks.

Thanks starsign. I was not aware that a coke has that much sugar in it. Though I'm not much of a coke (or other) fan, I will keep away from it.

Before I was diagnosed, I drank one bottle of ginger ale per day.  I didn't realize how addicting soda can be.  I got to the point where I HAD to have that ginger ale every afternoon when I got home from work.  Then after I was diagnosed and went pretty much cold turkey eliminating sugar from my diet, for about a week, I had headaches and even some blurry vision.  I think it was sugar withdrawal.

Now I drink coffee in the morning, water all day long and in the evening, and I like to make my own lemonade, using splenda as the sweetener, and fresh squeezed lemon juice.  When I have that, it's just a small glass per day.  I'm also going to try some cucumber water during the next heatwave - sounds very refreshing!

In my younger days, I drank sodas, at least two a day.  But about 10 years ago, I gave them all up and switched to mostly water and some tea.  I actually did feel better for doing that.
