Posture has long been important to me too, and not because my mom nagged me about it.  ;)  I think being raised in a military environment made it seem more important. But there's another element involved in this image of elderly folk bent over their canes (and the image of the cane itself causes me to use a long hiking staff instead of a short cane, so that I'm standing taller). What is commonly called 'dowager's hump' is not so much posture as a sign of osteoporosis where the vertebrae compress and lead to a bending-over curvature of the spine. I remember my doc saying years ago that I'd be the last person he'd expect to develop osteoporosis, but he orders regular bone density scans anyhow, and I always pass!

6424 steps yesterday.  Muscles a bit sore but still managing to make 6K.
Kathy, sometimes when my knee is giving me problems it helps to walk a bit to loosen up and then I am OK.  Other times it is just time to take it easy.  Hope you are feeling better.
Shanny, yeah, in my case poor posture when walking was caused by favoring my right side because of the hip.  I think this is why my knee causes me problems now.  The more upright and "natural" my walking is the better I do.

Reminds me of when Mr. Shanny had his hip replaced back in 2008 - he'd put it off for such a long time that when he got the new hip up & running, he had to teach himself to walk without a limp! He'd been limping for so many years it was automatic, even tho' there was no longer an pain to cause limping!  ;D

today my knee is complaining.

My left knee is complaining as well. But that is for lack of action. I haven't been exercising for almost 2 weeks now.

4100 steps yesterday.  I decided that it would be good to kind of take a rest yesterday so I think that is a good number for "resting".  I did get my 250 + steps each hour though.
Shanny, there are differences between a hip replacement and a hip fracture but I am not sure how much.  One thing is that I had no problems prior to the fracture so didn't develop any habits.  When I started to walk after the surgery I wanted to walk as much as I could to hasten recovery but I had to give my right side some help.  A bit of a limp and bending over seemed to relieve the effect of the break and it was that I believe caused me problems with my knee.  As the hip got better I have forced myself to walk in a more upright and normal manner and that seems to help my knee a lot.

Unless, of course, a fractured hip is fixed by replacing it with a new titanium one, which is what they did when my dad fell & broke his years ago. But even then, he would not have developed the aforementioned limp.

6,022 steps yesterday.  Lots of  ~ cat ~ in lap time and I think that is going to be the case for a while.  Though he will be going into hiding when any workers are around.

9,339 steps yesterday.  ~ cat ~ in hiding allows for more steps,
but I think I need to call the vet and maybe get some tranquilizers for him.
