I don't think it really matters how someone measures how much they walked but it helps to compare what you did today compared to other times.  I am not competitive and am only trying to set goals for myself depending on what I am capable of.  I am also short, 5'7" tall and more important I have a very short strode, 25 inches, so for an "average" person 10K steps is about 5 miles and for short little me it is 4 miles.  Using steps seems to be a more even way for people to compare.  Time is good but won't work for me as I have other issues to deal with and can only walk for short periods at a time.  I think the big thing here is just that we get up, out and move.  How much and for how long depends on what you are able to do but any exercise is a good thing.

I've had the cortisone shots in my back with very little problems with bg.  I haven't had them in my knees, not sure if it is arthritis there or just old injuries from pounding the pavement running and playing adult soccer.  I need to check with my dr when I see him in Dec.

All I have ever had a GP doctor do is prescribe an anti-inflamitory med of some kind but maybe one would use cortisone.
I was seeing an Orthopedic Specialist for another issue and brought up my knees and he was the one that suggested the cortisone.  An injection lasts me 5-6 months.  The last one I had was 6 months ago and I have an appointment to have another in two weeks.

And that just goes to show that you are a smarter person than I am.  I have pushed to get to that "goal" that I had set and pushed beyond being reasonable, paying for it later.  Way to go Barb.

Great Rocky,
I hope you enjoy yourself and get back into the groove quickly. For the weekend I walked on both the days for 45 minutes - 1 hour. The park is very nice & quiet on weekends & the weather is supportive too.  :D

My total steps for last week, 9/5 to 9/11, are 72,240 so I was able to make my 10K per day average.
Started my next Fitbit "Adventure" today.  It is called the Pohono Trail, another trail in Yosemite National Park.  This one is 42,000 steps total and I should be able to complete it in four days.  At least that is my intention, we will see how that goes but it should not be a problem.

7421 steps yesterday.  Still not going to push it too hard.  I have my goal still set at 4000 steps and think I will keep it there for a while longer.  I go well over it anyway.

Great going Rocky. I know that sore feeling after having given up working out for a few days. I'm also pretty regular for the past many days. I've added some short jogs and runs to my daily TM routine. Not much, but I'm happy.

I was able to finish the first leg of my "adventure" yesterday, the goal was 10,966 steps and I did a couple of 100 steps over that without problems.  Today the next goal is not quite as long , 10,427 steps and I have already done about 200 of those.  So far so good.

8121 steps yesterday. I stopped using the Elliptical on the 10th.  I think that was what was aggravating my knees.  They are definitely feeling better now.

Good going Rocky!  Everyone has their own style of training, but on the other hand, he just may not be pushing you really hard at first.

Great going Barbara.

Treadmills & elliptical can be bad for the knees because of the shock absorbers they all use. That is why I only use it for warm up & not more than a mile. I don't use any TV while exercising and that is why I prefer road walking. The changing scenario every moment offers something new.
