My one hour mix of exercise in the mornings begins with a 2 km walk / run / climb on the treadmill. This is just to warm up the body and get me all sweaty. After this I do the weights and free exercise. For me, the intent is fitness not body building so I use only moderate weights.

On the treadmill I usually run only 200 metres at a time, but lately I decided to add distance on some days. Today I managed to increase. My run to 500 Metres. Hopefully in a short time I'll be able to run a km at a stretch.

Can walking a couple of blocks count as exercise. That's about all I can manage in a day.

You bet. It's more than I can do.

9848 steps yesterday.  I have come to the conclusion that I am not quite as dedicated to getting more steps than I was before I broke my hip.  I used to walk as long as it took to make sure I got my 10K in.  Sometimes it was in the dark as late as 8-9 PM if needed.  Now my main goal is to get steps in each hour starting at 6:00 AM and Fitbit looks for at least 250 steps/hour and the Steps app turns the bar green at 300 steps each hour but I try to get at least 500/hour.  That is for the 12 hours from 6 AM to 5 PM and then I am pretty much done for the day.  I think moving each hour is more of a benefit than total steps.  That's my story and I am sticking to it !   ~yes~

Yes !  Any time we get off of our backside and do something it helps.  We all have limitations on how much we can do so it is up to us to realize our limitations.  Don't try to do more than you are able to do but anything is better than nothing.  Walking a couple of blocks is not bad at all.

Yes, rosyblue, anything you can do is better than doing nothing. I've had back and knee problems slow me down and now the stomach issues. I just do what I can and am happy with that.

You may find after walking a couple of blocks for a while, you will be able to do 3! Just don't push it.

Quite right.

I upped my distance run to 600 metres. For the short term the target is to reach 1 km asap.
All of this pales in comparison to Dubya's 8 minute / mile, and that too at a very advanced age.

8413 steps yesterday.  Sometimes time becomes a factor in how much I do in a day but I still got my steps in each hour.
SKB, good for you.  No running for me anymore, my knees just won't take it.  I do try and walk ad a faster pace sometimes.  That is about as close as I can get.
