I tried the Stepz app on my IPhone yesterday and it confirmed that my Fitbit is missing steps right now .  I went to Walmart and while pushing a cart it didn't record any steps.  Total steps according to Stepz yesterday was 4144.  A couple of times I counted my steps and compared to what was recorded on the app and it was right on.   I think one of the differences is that my Fitbit is worn on my wrist and I carry the phone in my shirt pocket.

9,437 steps yesterday.

For some inexplicable reason in the morning I find that Stepz misses steps until I reach about 1000 steps.  I count steps at the beginning of the day and trust the app after that.

Wally, looks like it's the placement of the gadget on your wrist which is the problem.
skb, Sarge also believes in short stints on the treadmill just for warm up.

Yeah Rocky, I think that is the problem.  When I am not holding on to something like a cart and walking normal, even walking with a cane, it seems to do a good job.  I do like the Stepz app though and am going to use it as a backup.

4156 steps yesterday and right now that is about the max I am able to do.  Interesting that yesterday all of my walking was with the help of a cane and my Fitbit and the Stepz app were within 50 steps of each other.  One thing that seems weird to me is that I need to use the cane with my left hand and the injured hip is my right side.  I would have thought that I needed to support the right leg when walking but it turns out that I use the cane on my left side and I can walk pretty normal.  I don't understand the geometry I guess but it seems weird.  Whatever the reason it works for me and I am getting along pretty well right now.  There is still pain involved but it is manageable.

@Wally, though my name is Rocky, it is you, who rocks.  ;D

One reason I think that the cane is used on the left side, is that when you take the left step, the pressure on the right hip is the max.

Rocky, what you say makes good sense. If you think about it, when the left foot is placed forward, the right one is up on the toes, for the next step, and that position would apply a lot of pressure on the right leg muscles & hip. Naturally, the body would want support in that position.

Yeah Rocky, while it seems counter intuitive, what you say does make sense and I know what works after trying both ways.  It does seem a bit weird but as long as it works who cares !  I am able to get around pretty good using the cane and look forward to being able to walk without it.

4208 steps yesterday.  Around 4K remains about my maximum at this time and as some may have noticed, that isn't every day.  Today I am taking it easier and will work on using weights for upper body and some leg exercises.  Also trying to do some stretching.  I still can't touch my feet but I am getting closer and am looking forward to being able to tie my shoes !   :D

Went grocery shopping today.  My regular store is undergoing renovations and every time I go in things are in a different place.  The aisles change every time from one side of the store to another. The freezer cases get reorganized and I can't find anything. Very annoying.  I have to walk the whole store every time I go.  >:(  This has been going on since December, and I think it will be a long time before they finish.

If they have a motorized cart, give it a try. I started using them last year, and BH has followed my lead this year. Our local grocery has only one cart so we have to share, and last week another customer had already claimed it. Having to walk the aisles sure brought back memories of the exhaustion that used to claim us every time we had to shop.  :(
