Yeah, shopping is good for steps.  I imagine if we had a shopping mall here it would be even better.  We had a small Walmart here since I moved here 25 years ago but they built a Super Walmart that opened just last November and that is quite good for steps, especially as whatever I need ends up at the far extremes of the store.   :D
It is also going to be a good place to go for steps this summer when it gets over 100° (37.8°C).   ~hot~

Wouldn't it be interesting to know how many miles, if one could count that in a huge store, it is from one end of the store to the other end of the store.  One of the main managers at the food market where we shop, said when they opened, it took 15-20 minutes to walk the perimeter of the store from one end to the other, something like 24,000 square feet and the store has since expanded.  I don't know how it compares with a Super WalMart store.

11, 314 steps yesterday.  Grocery shopping definitely helped get that number!

Well, the old Walmart was 98,000 sq. ft.  and the new one is over 200,000 sq. ft.  Of course that includes the warehouse area also but still pretty big.  You can get a lot of walking done there !

And when a Super Walmart opened around here several years ago, many of the employees wore roller blades to get where they needed to be more efficiently.

I'm pretty certain you mean square meters and not square feet. 24000 ft2 is not a very large area and will take less than 2 minutes to cross from one end to the other, assuming a layout of 120 ft x 200 ft.

In India we do have malls of 200,000 ft2 and over, but not a single brand store like Walmart or Carrefour. IKEA is coming soon and Walmart is currently "on hold" due to some farmer protests.

That sounds accurate, considering that a decent (not large) shop requires anything from 750-2000 sq. ft. each.

I had decided to kind of take it easy yesterday but ended up with 5922 steps so it is nice to have an easier day and still stay above 5K.
@SKB, no one uses meters in the USA.  Over here if someone expressed the size of a building in Meters² no one would understand what it meant.  No matter what the size, building size is stated in ft².  Grammabear may have understated the size of the store though.  Here a grocery store, often called a super market, is around 50,000 ft².

Ah, the metric system. I get it. Over on another (technical) forum, there was this thread called "what units do you use" and it was funny how countries (mine included) switched systems depending on what they were measuring. Take for instance the unit for BG measurement in US. It is mg/dl or "milligrams per decilitre" very much metric, but when it comes to weight it's "pounds" or distance is always "miles". That's how just things are.

Yeah, in the USA when it comes to measuring length, weight, distance etc. it's always pounds, ounces, feet, yards, miles and the like.  There have been attempts to convert to Metric but it never flew with the public.  Our Military changed to Metric years ago to coincide with the rest of the world and that worked because there was no choice.  Science and Medical fields use metric measurement also and people accept it but once again the public is not given a choice.  It's hard to get people to relearn what they have known all of their life.

Do you use a brace on your knee when it gets cranky? I have several elastic braces that help . . . and I'd better knock wood now, since I haven't had a sore knee in a long time. Don't wanna jink myself!  :)

Grammabear

No, honestly had not considered using a knee brace.  I did buy one some years ago, but I'm fairly certain it would not fit me now.  Will have to get a new one.
