Yes Barbara, Fitbit has these hikes on your phone or tablet and has beautiful pictures on landmarks along the way.  The map shows your progress along the trail and matches your steps to the actual trail.  I have to say it is fun and gives a different prospective of what you are doing.  Kind of adds a bit of fun to the whole walking thing.

That's a great idea. Reminds me of the adage - "It's all in the mind". A couple of years ago we saw this movie called Total Recall. It was a futuristic movie and one idea propagated was of pre-programmed holidays. One could stop at a kiosk in a mall, pay for a self programmed holiday, make the payment, and sit with this helmet like contraption for a few minutes. Once done, you've had a virtual holiday that the brain truly believes you did.

I have an elliptical I haven't used it in a long time.  Maybe I can find some scenic trips I can take using it!?

Thank you all. I started today as determined. Did a 45 minute walk on my treadmill some with the incline. And it was my idea to buy the machine.  ???

Great going bigskygal. I worked out on my TM for 45 minutes today. In all 4 km with almost 1.5 km at incline.  ~sml~

After doing the last Fitbit "adventure" that I completed Monday with 24,000 steps in two days I have to admit I was pooped Tuesday .  I did have to go to town for testing my Cardiologist ordered, an Echo Cardiogram (ultra sound of the heart) and ultrasound of the arteries of my arms, legs and  carotid in my neck.  That took about two hours and then shopping for another with an hour round trip driving so I was away for about four hours and could blame that on my reason for not getting my 10K goal but in reality it was my cranky, whiny leg muscles.   ;)
Yesterday was much better and I made 11.5K steps without too much trouble but I think I will hold off on the next "adventure" until next week.  It is a total of 42,000 steps and I am sure it will take 4 days.

A big 9159 steps yesterday!!  ;D  I knew with all the shopping, I was going to do well, but not that well!!  On the other hand, my knees are killing me today.  Not expecting a big number for today.

Yeah, my knees are my biggest obstacle also with osteoarthritis in both knees but cortisone injections have been my life saver.  I have had the injections three times now and it lasts 5-6 months.  It has been six months since my last injection and I am ready to go in again.  A lot of people have problems with their blood sugar with cortisone but for some reason I have no problem and I can take the injection in both knees and maybe see a rise of only about 10 mg/dl.  The orthopedic surgeon I go to is fully aware that it can raise blood sugar, as much as 300-400 mg/dl in some people, so at first would only do one knee at a time.  When I had my first one I still had my Glipizide and would have used it if I needed to but didn't have to.

8108 steps yesterday. More than I expected, but the way I feel today, was probably too many.

I've had the cortisone shots in my back with very little problems with bg.  I haven't had them in my knees, not sure if it is arthritis there or just old injuries from pounding the pavement running and playing adult soccer.  I need to check with my dr when I see him in Dec.

Anyone counted steps/km. I did that on the treadmill today. I have a small stride and it took me 136 steps, counting both legs (68 if one). That would mean 1360/km. Taller people will have a lesser count. I'm 5'-8" or 173 cm tall.

Haven't counted the number of steps per km. But I have been religiously doing my treadmill for 45 mins daily.
