Hi from Comedian.

I was diagnosed with T2 in 2011 and am still managing without diabetes meds. I eat a low carb diet and have been keeping my HbA1c in the non-diabetic range for five years now.

Hello comedian,

Welcome to Diabetic Pub. We are a bunch of diabetics from all across the globe who use LCHF eating methods to manage our chronic condition.

You mention your A1c as 31 mmol/mol which translates to 6.0 % which is what most of our members would understand. That is quite a good number and you need to be congratulated for it.

Do spend some time familiarising yourself with the site layout & content and ask away if you have any questions.

Thanks for the welcome, skb.

My 31 mmol/mol HbA1c actually converts to 5.0%.  :)

I'll try to remember to do the calculations before posting in future. Is it also best for me to convert BG numbers to mg/dL?

You are right, it is 5 %, which is even better.
You can post your readings in any units you like. We have a onsite converter which we can use though some of us are quite familiar with mmol units.

Hey Comedian
~wcm~

You have a lot more experience with the big D compared to some of us newbies here. I acidentally found this forum from Google, a few months back. These folks and their methods have helped me a lot in getting my numbers and weight down.

How did you learn of LCHF ?
My life is based on a true story.

How did you learn of LCHF ?
I learnt about LCHF fairly soon after diagnosis, by Googling Type 2 diabetes diet. My doctor gave me the standard sheet of foods suitable for diabetics, which had grains and low-fat milk etc. on it. My digestion doesn't tolerate either of those well and I never really lost my taste for butter, cream, cheese and fatty red meat, so when I found out that lots of diabetics cut carbs and increased good saturated fats, I decided that that sounded like something I could live with. I found the standard sites and bloggers, read a lot, and my numbers improved. My doctor was impressed and supported me in my attempts to manage my D with diet only, and the rest is history. I found this forum yesterday and thought I'd join in.

Isn't it great when you doc supports you?! Mine was iffy at first, but let me go with it. He approved of its effect on my blood sugar levels of course, but the day he saw how my lipids improved on LCHF, he about jumped out of his chair - exclaiming 'you did it without statins!' Now he's a believer & has used LCHF himself for weight loss.

Hi comedian,

Welcome to the forum from another newbie. This community is full of some knowledgeable people and you seem to be already in that bracket, having taken the lead and control of your heath.

I'm here for my partner who is a type 2. He is pretty busy with work and therefore I do all the yapping on his behalf. Do post a lot and share your knowledge with us. It will do us a lot of good.

I'm pleased to hear that your doctor ended up being supportive as well, Shanny. :)

Once I got over the guilt about eating lots of saturated fat, it was easy for me!
