I just don't normally have the bagged cabbage mix, but a head of cabbage keeps a long time in the fridge, so I'm more likely to have that.

And I've known for a long time that cabbage will actually drop my blood sugar. I guess because it's so fibrous . . . one whole cup of shredded raw cabbage is only 4g of carbs, and there's 2g of fiber.

You're absolutely right about the carb count and such.  I did a little poking around on the internet last night for crack slaw recipes and every one that I found that had nutritional information said 4g of carbs.  I should have looked before I made the dish so I could have avoided the rock bottom low I had.  I had the last little bit of leftover slaw last night for supper.  Dang.....is that stuff good.  Guess who is going to town today to buy a head of cabbage and some meat to go with it??? .......  ;D ;D

Yeah - the cabbage is the only ingredient that's even a wee bit carby. Whatever meat you use would be all protein, and the seasonings & sesame oil have no carbs either. Sorry about your bad low.

And yeah again ( ;) ), this is one of those dishes that is better the second time around - if there IS a second time around!  ;D

You are so right - IF there IS a second time around!  I'm going to make a batch of it tonight and guess WHO isn't home because he is at work?   :P

I prefer to buy a fresh  head of cabbage rather than use the bagged, pre-shredded stuff.  I don't mind the (brief) time it takes to chop up half a head of cabbage.  As to leftovers, I usually have enough to take for lunch on another day, but that's it :)  I'll be making a side dish of sauteed cabbage, mushrooms and shallots for Thanksgiving, to help me avoid the temptation of mashed potatoes and rosemary rolls.

And like Shanny said, at my grocery store, I find ginger paste in my produce section.  One small jar lasts quite a long time.
