Long long day

Annual cardiac checkup for my everlovin' . . . but a long day to get it done.

We got to the clinic after a two-hour trip; nurse took an EKG, but when the NP came in, he said they wanted an echocardiogram too, which we hadn't allowed time for. That was scheduled by different people altogether, but at least their office was right across the hall, so we didn't have to travel any farther. And while they had told us the echo could take an hour and had been scheduled for 4pm, they called us back just before 3pm, and we must have gotten the best tech in the house, because she was done in about 20 minutes! Holy cow - does this EVER happen in doctors' offices?!

That kind of efficiency gave us time to do what we always like when we find ourselves in this city - go to Red Lobster.  `8) I know it isn't really 'high end' dining, but we really like their caesar salads & RL biscuits. Getting from the medical arena clear across town was a bit of a trick, because there'd been a shooting in the vicinity of the hospital/clinics and law enforcement was out in numbers. But we got our treat & then tried to get home before dark. Had to stop for a few groceries & gas up the car, and that put us behind by just enough that night had fallen before we made it, but I was too exhausted to care.

Have finally gotten my second wind, but now it's time to go to bed. My everlovin', as well as Sir Kittycat  ~ cat ~ & Prince Puppydog ~dog~  have already crashed.

I trust the results from the tests done on your hubby were favorable?  That is a long drive for you'all.

I also love going to Red Lobster and it always seems they have an abundant supply of those delicious biscuits which I know we probably should not have - but somehow slip onto our plate.

Your critters sound like they were happy to see the both of you.  Hope you slept well.

I have a long, long day ahead of me at the end of the month.  My heart valve was replaced at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, on the border with Beverly Hills.  It was a TAVR procedure which stands for trans-catheter aortic valve replacement.  The new valve is in a metal sheath like a stent and placed in the heart through the artery from the groin.  Only a small slit to insert it and once in place it just starts working.  A remarkable procedure but not approved yet unless someone is too old or sick to have open heart surgery.  I was able to get in on a trial that is going on to get this procedure approved for all and I hope it will be available for people in the future.  It has been used in Europe for several years but we seem to be so slow sometimes.   Any way, because it is a trial I am expected to return to Cedars-Sinai once a year for testing.  It has now been two years and all is working very good but how long the valve lasts is one of the things the trial is looking at.  The drive to the hospital is 4 hours each way and probably about 2 hours of testing there.  It does make for a long day.

They'll call us next week with the result of the echo.

And I slept like a log, but I made sure of it by taking a pain pill and a sleeping pill both. Put in eight hours without so much as a twitch!  ;D

Hope the results are good Shanny.

Sigh, there is no Red Lobster any where around here.  Closest one is in Spokane.  :(

Don't know if your grocery store carries it, but I noticed today that our store carries a box mix that is called Red Lobster golden biscuits.  I know most of us don't make a practice of eating bread, but maybe once in a while when the craving strikes??

Shanny, please accept my best wishes too, for a good result.

Sorry Shanny, I forgot to say I hope the echo results are good also.  Because of my previous heart murmur and now the replacement valve I have an echocardiogram at least every 6 months.  It's a good thing and if there is a problem it shows up ahead of a problem so something can be done to correct it.  In my case I asked what happens if or when the replacement valve fails and the doctor casually said, oh we just insert another one.  At least it sounds easy.
