I have never had alcohol (assuming liquor chocolates dont count0 but red wine is starting to sound interesting!
I think those little chocolate liqueurs prob'ly should count - it's real liqueur in there, so there's a wee bit of alcohol. But I do love them so!  ;D ;D ;D

This past Friday, my one and only child (son) graduated from high school.  Naturally, it was the hottest day we've had all year.  I was literally dripping with sweat as I ran around at 3:00 p.m. doing errands, picking up his cake, balloons, flowers.  It is a bittersweet time for me - feeling so proud of him, and yes, a little proud of myself for making it through 18 years as a single mom.  A feeling of accomplishment for us both.

My blood pressure had been going up and both my doctor and I were worried.  Turns out, I was stressing over events in my life.  Once I realized that, and also began having a glass of red wine every day, my BP is now back down even lower than it was!

~cng~ Mary. It's a proud moment indeed. I'm not hypertensive, but  the red wine. Always room for that, and then some.

Thanks for the congratulations :)  I drank occasionally (alcohol that is) prior to my diagnosis, but of course now no hard liquor for me.  So I definitely enjoy my one glass of red wine per day.  When it's hot, I break wine-drinking rules and put an ice cube in my glass.  No one's looking, so what do I care?  LOL.

Shanny- what i meant was i have never experienced that 'high' people talk about - the after alcohol effect. Liquer chcoolates and dark chocolate cakes have a bit of alcohol.

To be honest- I did get a different kind of 'high' when i used to have those plum cakes with rum in it. We get it here only during Christmas season and my father used to get it every year when we were young.

I spent most of the day Saturday pulling weeds  and in general cleaning up the yard.  I love Spring, but I am not so fond of all  much the weeds grow!!

That cleaning up of the yard would have brought down your BG considerably. I use exercise as a substitute for medication.

Read in conjunction with your post in the Fasting BG thread, the connection is that your "few" scotch drinks helped you achieved that magic number. Alcohol being a toxin receives due priority in the metabolic process. Because of that much of the nutrients in food get bypassed in the process & therefore BG tends to stay low the next morning. Watch your numbers for the next few days.

Sweety

Saturday we (with husband) had a quiet birthday dinner at a restaurant near home. We are most of the vegetarians and that is what we ate. But there was also a large spread of some delicious sweets and some cake. So yesterday and today my numbers have been out of usual range.

I now work Mon-Thurs, so on Friday I drove to the town where my mother lives (about an hour away), and spent time with her.  She is elderly and in poor health, so my older sister (her primary care giver) doesn't like to leave her alone.  That allowed my sister several hours to run errands and have a little time to herself.

Saturday was spent in doing laundry, grocery shopping and some more weed whacking in my back yard, before it got too warm.  The rest of the day I spent trying to stay cool indoors :)  I also tried a recipe for homemade Almond Joy (diabetic version).  I won't post the recipe because I wasn't satisfied with the results (although I am eating it anyway!).  I'll keep tweaking until I am satisfied.

I got out and walked on both Saturday and Sunday.  Not for long, but it made me feel good.

We are going to a party tonight at a club. If AJ has any desserts this time, I'm going to pull his ears.  ;)

On Saturday, I did the usual:  sleep in a little bit longer than normal, have my Saturday breakfast of 4 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces celery with cream cheese and coffee with HWC.  Ran some errands and cleaned the house, did laundry.  Then I dozed on the couch for an hour or so in the afternoon and had to talk myself into getting ready to go to bingo.  Boy am I glad I did!  I won 3 times - one of my best bingo nights ever and now I can get the new tires my car needs :)

On Sunday, I went over to my mother's house.  She was being released from the hospital that day.  I helped clean the house, unclog the kitchen sink, and then watched the SF Giants beat the Tampa Bay Rays.  My mother arrived home and although she was tired from the procedure and 2 day hospital stay, I can already tell the procedure has been helpful.  She is stronger and breathing easier :)

All in all, a very good week-end.
