Quote from: Rhiannon on July 08, 2016, 01:25:26 PMI am having to nudge my son over and over again to go through his things and winnow out just the basics.  He will be going to live with his dad.  I am still adjusting to the idea of not having him live under the same roof as me, and trying not to be depressed at that thought!

That is an emotionally taxing experience. I hope that it is a temporary arrangement.

Sadly, I don't think it will be temporary.  Well, it will be temporary in that he'll only live with his dad for a few months.  After that, he will be heading to boot camp for the Marines, down in San Diego.  So him living under the same roof as I (as he has for the past 18 years) is probably drawing to a close.  Hopefully he will still come stay with me when he is on breaks, etc.

Gbear - so nice you had both your sons come for a visit :)  As children grow into adults and form their own lives, that family time is harder and harder to come by!

Same goes for you too Shanny - glad you have a family reunion on the horizon.

As to what I did this week-end:  On Saturday, I took several things over to my soon-to-be-new home.  That meant lugging stuff up stairs, about five trips.  I climbed up a step ladder to put items away in the kitchen.  I lugged that step ladder up stairs to hang some curtains and some pictures.  Whooo - I was literally dripping with sweat.

On Sunday, I did some hand trimming in the yard.  The backs of my legs and my  upper arms feel sore today.

All in all, I got more than average exercise this week-end.  It was mild temps, but supposed to get hotter this week.

Shanny

Moving is hard work! Which is why I don't intend to ever do it again - lol! They'll have to carry me outta here feet first . . . ;)

Very proud of your son - the USMC is an outstanding choice and I'm sure he'll make a good one.

We have a family reunion coming in two more weeks and they're all coming - I so hope there'll be time to just enjoy being together. Since our branch of the family is hosting the reunion (we have 150 reservations so it'll be quite a job), the work involved in hosting will take away from private time, but I'll continue to hope.

Do you mean 150 rooms ? That will be some reunion. It will take a lot of management skills to organise an event of that magnitude. Good Luch, Shanny.

No, 155 (so far) guests at the main event, which is a buffet/banquet where everyone comes together, we give out door prizes, each branch of the family introduces attendees, a family meeting is conducted, etc. There are other activities too . . . one of my older cousins will be celebrating her 90th birthday the first night of the reunion & we always reserve a block of rooms at one hotel so there can be a lot of congregating every morning as people avail themselves of the free hot hotel breakfast. But yes, my sisters' management skills have been exceptionally successful in the planning/preparing for this occasion.

There are nine branches of the family - these are just the descendants of my own grandparents. My grandparents had 45 grandchildren, and the numbers grew from there. My parents' generation is all gone now and my own generation is dying off now too. If the reunions are to survive, we need to involve the younger generations now, and our efforts this year seem to be working.

Great. Sounds fun. If you get an opportunity, do speak about the Pub.  :D

What a fantastic way to reunite, and yes you have to pass on the baton to GenNext. They have to take the reins someday. Wish you a great time, Shanny.

My local grocery store. I wasn't involved, but this shut down the market & prevented me from shopping for a few groceries yesterday after I went to town for a haircut . . .

Welll Shanny, I would say you had enough excitement yesterday to last for a while.  Hope the driver is ok and no one was injured.

The driver was a 91-year-old woman who apparently hit the gas instead of the brake. Three people inside the store had minor injuries, but none bad enough to be sent to the hospital.

I just wonder if she'll keep her license after this . . .

I was just going to say that Shanny. Just thank goodness no one was seriously hurt.

Thank goodness no one was injured. It could have been so much worse. With automatic cars, and at age 91, it is possible to slam the accelerator in place of the brake.
I once had a lady reverse her car into mine. It was not an automatic but part of her dress got stuck under the pressed clutch, & she just lifted her foot off the pedal, while in the reverse gear.  ;D

That must have been scary.

I wonder if she were to lose her license then how would she manage to get around, especially, if she is alone.
