What did you do this weekend?

I shifted to our new home. With 2 kids trying to 'help' with the unpacking. I am so overwhelmed right now.

To those who dont know, I have 2 kids (3 years and 1 year) and many people here were so kind and nice to me and waited with me when my younger one was going to be born. Now she is at her tantrum phase and the moment she sees me coming with a bowl and a spoon, vigorously starts shaking her head. Keeps food in her mouth for an eternity and goes and spits it in front of the dog who is eagerly waiting. In midst of all that, i had to unpack 24 cartons, 11 boxes and 8 bags.

I hope all of you had a great weekend. And did something fun.

My birthday is coming up on 22nd and i want to do something for myself. I turn 35!

I don't envy you, Paulomi . . . moving is a chore I really don't like . . . and the last time I had to move, I was a LOT younger than I am now - like 30 YEARS younger.   ::)

Methinks if I ever must move again, somebody will have to come, pick me up bag & baggage, and carry me to a new home. Moving is hard work!  :P

Congratulations & wish you the very best in your new house. Moving houses can be taxing and I'm sure you are feeling drained out, what with handling the kids as well.

For me, Saturday was working, and half of Sunday as well. But it was a fruitful weekend. Signed up a new project. And my son who wants to lose a few pounds is now pursuing me. I've been on the ignore list for the past couple of years. Looks like we are going to have another LCHF-er soon.

Oh moving!  I do not envy you and I hope things weren't too chaotic.  I moved twice in less than 12 months recently.  Second time was a bit easier, as I had scaled down very much during the first move.  But it is still very stressful.

On Saturday, I went to the grocery store and the bank, then came home and laid on the couch most of the day, as I am fighting a serious cold.  On Sunday, I went to bingo.  That's my  usual Sunday activity.  Sadly, I did not win lol.  Today, we are having a break from the rain, and I am looking forward to having a nice walk at lunch time.  First time in days it has been dry enough to get out of doors during the week.

Congrats on the new home Paulomi!!  I don't envy you the moving process though.  I moved to Montana in 2004 from California and I still have way too many boxes of stuff in the garage that never got unpacked!! I'm with you Shanny, if I ever move from here, someone else is going to have to do the work.

I have always enjoyed moving and making an empty space my own by personalizing it. But with 2 kids, all the fun goes away!

Sometimes i envy all of you. You all sound so wise and grown up. I feel a little frustrated having to battle the onset of diabetes at such a young age. My father had it at 35 and passed away at 52 (uncontrolled diabetes + smoking). Part of me feels thats my fate too and worry about my kids.

Too much of morbid thoughts....give me tips to kick of diet coke addiction. I am addicted to 1 can a day and have heard so much about aspartame but have difficulty giving up.

Hate moving!

We've lived in this place for over 20 years now, and I'm not sure moving is even possible anymore.

Our kid and our dog would trade food if we weren't vigilant.  Kid dropped his food from the high chair.  After dining, kid bellied his way over to the dogfood bowl.  Dog happily let him have his fill.

You know how to control your diabetes, and are on your way to a long, healthy future!   For cola, I like Zevia, which is sweetened with stevia.  A little hard to find -- you may need to order online.  Otherwise, I'm mostly in it for the bubbles, anyway ... so I drink lots of club soda.

We attended a science fiction convention this weekend, and a different sci-fi convention the weekend before that.  Like all mature folk do.

Timewise

My wife and I drove 6 hours south meeting two of our three kids and their families at a lake in Oklahoma.  We stayed in small cabins, cooked our doors, hiked during the day and had a campfire with spooky stories at night...great fun, and our four Grandkids really enjoyed all of it.

Going to do it again next year....hopefully we can get our daughter and her family to join us also....

Waaaaa . . . you drove right past me & didn't even wave!  ;)   Maybe next year you'll spot us . . .

Still working on navigating the new site!

I'm preparing to move in the next year or so and have been slowly cleaning things out for a few years now.

Friday morning I continued my project of burning old financial papers. I figure one more good burn will finish them off.

Turns out a young man at church (his 14-year old son is type 1 and uses the same pump and CGM as I) wants to get into wood working, so I'm giving him as many of my tools as I can rather than moving everything.

Also went through all my old cans of extra bolts, screws, nuts and nails, threw out what I could and put the keepers in labelled boxes.

Ditto for old electrical wires, cables, etc.

Now I've got to get in the attic and get it cleared out. Not much up there, fortunately.

I figure when we move I'll just sell off or give away most everything to save the cost of movers.

I can only tell you how I 'kicked' the diet coke habit after a lifetime of drinking the stuff.  Last Fall I was hospitalized for hyponatremia (low blood sodium) and in the hospital a kidney doctor came into my room.  He informed me I had stage 2-3 kidney disease (prior to this NO one had ever informed me I had kidney disease).  He also taught me that diet coke has a lot of phosphorus and kidneys under stress with kidney disease don't need an excess of phosphorus.  My creatnine level was high - so I decided then and there that I would not drink diet coke.  I kicked the habit on 9-17-15 and have not had one since.  I've since lost my taste for anything carbonated which I guess is a good thing.  I wish you good luck in your efforts to be healthy not only for yourself, but for your little ones.  Being a Mom is hard, we understand your challenges.

Grammabear,
Would creatinine be the only red flag ? What about uric acid or protein levels. If these are high, would that be also considered as a danger.

I don't think creatinine is the only thing that doctors look at to determine kidney disease.  Prior to my hospitalization I had a long history of hyponatremia (low blood sodium) which my GP was well aware of.  Why she didn't send me to a kidney doctor, I don't know.  My creatinine level kept climbing a little bit each time I had blood work done.  I don't know that diet coke was solely responsible, but I figured it would be worth the effort to stop drinking it just to see if my blood levels improved.

I should really frequent the site more often...

What i did this weekend was teach my 3 year old about pancreas and insulin. Seems he has grasped the concept well enough, because when he caught me sneaking a chocolate, he said mom dont have carbohydrates (and had it himself!).

Funnily whenever i have been pregnant, the Duchess of Cambridge has been expecting too. I think my daughter was supposed to be born there. She behaves like an entitled princess at 15 months age. My son dotes on her and treats her like one, so any attempts to get her down to our middle class level are in vain.

I hope you all have a good long weekend- those who are in USA.
