What did you do this weekend?

We did absolutely nothing - nothing that required leaving the shelter of the air-conditioned house! Not even to go to the air-conditioned car & drive to some other air-conditioned establishment. ;) I shouldn't complain when some of you are coping with 110°/115° highs, but I wilt rapidly (and I mean RAPIDLY!) in this heat, so despite having a coupla errands that need running, we aren't moving much any time soon. Happy summer solstice, everyone!

That's quite normal here. For now, those days are gone (hopefully) but everytime the rain takes a break we could be touching those numbers again. JFYI the highest I've experienced was a couple of years back, in the forests, in the peak summer time (which is the wildlife season) The temp had touched 48.8o C. For you thath would be 120o F. But this year a couple of places in the India have witnessed 53o C. Phew !!! What's next ?

Saturday the 18th June, my husband and I mowed our lawn and it took us 3-1/2 hrs of mowing in 90 something degree heat.  We then retired to the air conditioned house where we had a delicious salad with fresh veggies from our garden.  Don't like lawn mowing, but do love the fresh veggies.

Rhiannon- I am glad your mother is doing better. A sick family member brings such a huge amount of helplessness and grief.

Rocky- I love Burmese food. I tried Khaosuey some weeks back and absolutely loved the concept. I think it is a Burmese dish, if i am not wrong.

I spent my weekend playing the evil lady who runs after kids with a spoon in hand. The best part about kids growing up is how they tell you when they are hungry and eat well. My daughter is 16 months and still makes mealtimes a huge deal. She eyes the dog carefully and when i am not looking, she feeds it to him. No wonder, my dog looks a little healthier than usual.

She is adorable otherwise.

Btw, went to Goa for a few days with my kids. Watching my son fascinated by the sea (which he saw for the first time) and standing in the waves as it drenched us all, is a memory that i will hold on to as long as i live. 16 month old hated the sand and feel of water :(

Another slow weekend for us, despite it being a holiday . . . the rain kept revelers from coming to the river to celebrate, so there wasn't even any traffic. If the rain abates, they may still come today - the last day of the long weekend.

We did have a coupla extra nice meals as we often do for holidays . . . steaks went on sale so I got a t-bone for BH and a beautiful ribeye for me. (I cannot persuade him that ribeyes are better than t-bones! ;) And when I noticed the sale which was stated as '$2 a pound off', I suspected they would jack up their base price in order to take off that $2. He wanted to buy many steaks, but I said not if they've raised their base price, and sure enough - that's what they'd done. $12.99 for t-bone & $13.99 for ribeye. That ain't a sale, folks :( but I bought a couple just for the weekend.)

Today I may fix cordon bleu - I have all the components and it may be cool enough to run the oven for that short time.

Yesterday my hubby took me out for breakfast to celebrate my birthday.  Later on in the day he fired up the grill and we had a cookout with chicken tenders, a veggie mix of sweet bell peppers, Vidalia onions and he had a baked potatoe.  Good meal was enjoyed by both of us.

Quiet weekend here too.  I was going to go to my friend's house for dinner but just got the call that her sister's DH is not feeling well. So we are postponing until Wednesday.  He's 71 and has heart issues the last couple of years.  I really hope he is going to be OK.

Didn't make it to the cordon bleu - had promised BH french toast for his brunch, but he let me sleep until 3:30pm (he wasn't up yet when I laid down at 10:30am), so brunch didn't happen until nearly dinner! He said it was good, even though so late. The cordon bleu will have to wait until tomorrow. I think I have Swiss in the fridge . . . if I can't find it, I guess I'll use jack or mozza instead.

The sun finally came out late this afternoon, so maybe a few fishermen had time to drop a line in the water, but we didn't see any of them  . . .  it was VERY quiet out here! We loved it, but still felt bad for all the folks who had days off but got rained on every minute.

Happy belated 4th of July to everyone :)  I went to a BBQ at a friend's house, but I ate beforehand, knowing there would probably be limited food choices for me.  So I had a glass of red wine, a piece of BBQ chicken, and a couple of celery sticks.  Had a good time hanging out and catching up with friends, but by 6:00, the breeze turned quite chilly and we retreated indoors.

Spent the following Tuesday taking my mom into San Francisco for a medical appointment.  Traffic was fine going in, but then it took over 2 hours for her appointment to be concluded, and traffic on the way home was miserable.  Didn't get back to her house until 6:00 p.m.

Now am in the process of slowing packing things and taking boxes over to what will be my new home in less than a month.  Moving is not fun!  I am having to nudge my son over and over again to go through his things and winnow out just the basics.  He will be going to live with his dad.  I am still adjusting to the idea of not having him live under the same roof as me, and trying not to be depressed at that thought!

That is an emotionally taxing experience. I hope that it is a temporary arrangement.

A "rare" thing happened in our home today.  We have two grown sons and they both were home for a visit at the SAME time to help their Dad celebrate his birthday.  My grandson also visited and the whole family went to a small restaurant for breakfast.  It meant a lot to both my husband and myself to see our 'boys' again.  Now that they're grown, we don't have the privilege of seeing them often.   :)

What a great day, G-bear! I'm so happy for you & your OWC.

It's been more than 1½ years since I've seen mine, and it's just about more than I can bear. We have a family reunion coming in two more weeks and they're all coming - I so hope there'll be time to just enjoy being together. Since our branch of the family is hosting the reunion (we have 150 reservations so it'll be quite a job), the work involved in hosting will take away from private time, but I'll continue to hope.

Grammabear

I hope the weather cooperates for your family reunion and that you do get some 'personal' time with your kids.  It is a special time together.  It had been about a year or so for us too.  Enjoy the busy times together.
